This school is extremely discriminatory and rude. The staff is consistently always in a bad mood and never outgoing or nice. The attendance lady is always in a bad mood even if you have the necessary information (doctors notes, etc). She always acts like you are the problem and I have seen a large difference in treatment between caucasian and minority students. The security officers are also always very rude. They look for minority students to target. They also expect you to know things the school doesn't tell you. Administrators don't tell us every single rule and when we accidentley break a small one there is huge backlash for us. Even the teachers and 'hall monitors' make it seem as if students can't have their own beliefs or thoughts. One administrator also consistently targets our class; always coming in and finding something to get mad at us about (not standing up for the pledge, being locked out of our class - even though we did not have the key - or taking breaks during designated break time. Another thing is that the school constantly changes the rules and then gets mad at us for sometimes not being able to keep up. Overall, this schools administration has a serious problem and makes me not look forward to coming to school.

I took the MATA Computer Integrated Engineering and Design course at the Academies of Loudoun. It was one of the best learning experiences I've had. The teacher who teaches this course is very outgoing, and communicates with his students as much as he can. He's super flexible with how he does things and is a funny person overall. The teachers in the MATA program come straight out of professional experience to teach us what they know and what he will expect in the work field. The Academies of Loudoun is a great place overall. It's a modern, college-like building with lots of collaborative spaces around the building. It can for sure get difficult at times, but my teacher and peers helped me with everything I have to know. I would give this place a 10/10 and would recommend students to give it a chance and apply!

Great program but wish more students get selected. And more local companies offer internships to most of the seniors.

Wow! This school is all that it is made out to be. The academic program promotes the best standards and opportunities for learning, and the teachers are great. The school is highly competitive yet promotes an atmosphere of team work for high performing science students. Unfortunately, my oldest daughter did not get selected for the program (she is now in medical school, so parents don't dismay if your child doesn't make the cut for AOS), but my youngest daughter did. We considered TJ, but AOS appealed to our daughter and we know she made the right decision. Thank you AOS.

Terrible. I specifically am in the AET Part of it (engineering pathway) and I find it awful. I hear MATA is better because it actually teaches you something useful in life (reason I didn’t give this school a 1 star rating), but my experience is awful. I know the whole admission process thing is none of my business but that’s there too.

Teachers don’t care if you learn differently. They just show you a slide on the board, don’t discuss it, then move on. If you tell them to slow down or explain something they act like we’re supposed to know it. One teacher said “well if you don’t know this, maybe you should go back to your homeschool” and moved on.

The student government organizes many of the school events, and the teachers often give students opportunities to lead the class and help others.

Posted: February 10, 2018

Hands-on projects and out-of-class sessions are offered by every teacher to keep all students working at the same pace.

Posted: February 10, 2018

A zero-tolerance system coupled with kind, supportive counselors who are completely willing to take disciplinary action make the AoS a safe zone for all students.

The Academy of Science is both a school and a family, as the connections students form with each other as well as their teachers are incredible. The staff and curriculum combine to make a question-based learning system that lands up delving into topics beyond the purview of the course, promoting at-home research and out-of-class discussion. Students are so immersed in the inquisitive process that they don't realize they've learned until they take the unit tests, which take their skills one step forward through application. The research programs are stellar, and overall the AoS is the best experience any student could have.

Posted: February 10, 2018

The homework is difficult and application-based, but there is a strong support system composed of peers, teachers, and school-given resources that makes it doable.

Posted: February 10, 2018

They connect with their students rather than acting superior, and class discussion is significantly more common than lectures.

Posted: February 10, 2018

Students are consistently told that their best resources are each other. Teachers discuss how students should behave towards both each other and themselves, and have a level of empathy that often isn't seen in other schools.

The school is an incredible opportunity for kids to grow and expand in many different aspect from academics to character. They have incredible staff, equipment and curriculum to create a strong foundation for kids. Despite the competition to get selected, the school is an amazing area for kids to learn.

They give ample homework with the right resources and fundamentals to complete it.

They provide and engage the students in more hands-on activities and prepare the students for the real world.

Academics of Loudoun has NO bullying and has incredible counselors to help if a situation arises.

The school has a great program and the teachers and the students form a wonderful team with a common goal. The students come first here and the administrators make a genuine effort to help the students. The bonds between the students is also absolutely great. Highly recommend for Loudoun students.

School hides admission criteria, and there is no rational in selection process compared to TJ. School shortlists the students based on PSAT and another test called CCTDI( a survey based on student personality).Seen students with PSAT scores of 1000 got finalist letters, where as some students with scores as high as 1460 got rejection letters.

Posted: January 5, 2017

There is an appalling lack of transparency in the admissions process. The students do the PSAT and another standardized test, the CCTDI but they do not release the scores of the CCTDI. I suspect this is intentional so that they can have some control over the demographics-
