While attending my school, I witnessed many things of which I will not share. The school, being newly remodeled as of my attendance, was very clean. Unfortunately, the lack of attention to detail by the staff was concerning, and many rules were broken. One portion I will talk about is the men’s bathroom. As of 2nd semester in 8th grade, most of the bathrooms were closed, and the fear of entering a bathroom was massive. The staff did a poor job at preventing students from doing things such as vandalizing the bathrooms and harming others. In my 7th grade year, I was doused in water by a fellow student. The staff ignored the situation, and I felt alone at times. The bullying was also a real problem, as students would pick on students for many things, including weight. I would not recommend attending this school if you are not strong emotionally. I must give the school credit as it is the better of most schools in the area, including stone middle school, which I would not recommended. My hope is for the staff to get better, and finally fix the crippling issues that fill the school.

My son is now is 8th grade. With our first child we had a harrowing experience with her middle school which was located in Mclean so I was nervous when my 2nd got into middle school. I was anticipating a lot of issues going through middle school and keeping my fingers crossed. Rocky run surprised me tremendously. No drama. No bullying. Instant replies from school counselors on any issues raised. Instant solutions offered and followed through. My 2nd child was so heavily warned about middle school by me that he was nervous too..but after the first quarter ..he was asking me why I made him panic. I have learnt my lesson to not generalize every school. Love the teachers. Very dedicated bunch who love teaching. Motivated my kid to do better each day. Totally 100% recommend this school!

The Civics or Social Studies curriculum at this school is exceptional. The teachers provide an immersive learning experience that is above and beyond the norm. Both of my daughters attended this school, so I witnessed this amazing curriculum twice. Mr. Sawatsky and others at Rocky Run are nationally recognized, award winning educators. I consider it a great privilege that my children were able to participate in such a fantastic Social Studies program that exposed them to ideas and concepts far above the typical middle school experience. The Social Studies curriculum at Rocky Run demands a high degree of critical thinking that continues to benefit the students well beyond middle school.

The character of the administration and teachers at this school was so high that my children couldn’t believe the bullying they witnessed on TV and in movies, etc. was actually a real thing and not a form of dramatic license. While students at Rocky Run were informed about bullying, there was essentially no bullying at this school:

The school is overall great. The teachers and curriculum is amazing, especially the History department. There has been absolutley no drama unlike some of the schools near it. Everybody is friendly, happy, upbeat, and very welcoming. The AA center is amazing and would recommend it. Rocky Run also has a very strong music and theatre department.

A really awesome school where most parents are involved in their children's lives. Seriously, these kids have manners! Teachers are above par, AAP teachers way above average.

Just putting this out there, Rocky Run Middle School is the BEST SCHOOL EVER!!!!!!!!! I'm a 7th grader there, and the curriculum is full of challenging material. To all the people who think Rocky Run is not a great school, we outnumber you 5 to 1.

Great teachers and love the new principal. School counselors are very nice. Great teachers, especially math and civics. They stay after school for help. History dept. is very creative. Overall, Rocky Run is a great school and a great learning facility.

Great energy, teachers, extra-curricular programs and culture. Teachers are allowed flexibility in how they present students information and they are top-notch!

I am i student here at Rocky run and I'll say this, it is the best school I've ever been in. I haven't heard of any drama going on yet and everyone is already halfway through the school year. The history department at Rocky Run is the best because of their teaching styles and the interactive activities they make us do. The only bad part about it may be the science department, I feel like the teachers just give us busy work and sit at his desk all day.

I am sorry the most recent post from the parent before this is so hostile. I am writing this to counter their arrogance and note about "TJ" (Thomas Jefferson High School). I am assuming they moved to the area JUST to push for their child to garner acceptance at TJ, and may have RRMS as their scapegoat if their son/daughter does not get accepted. Our child is in the GT (now "AAP") program and doing outstanding. The school, teachers, and principal have a great, caring, and academically challenging team. Our student is in 7th grade algebra honors -- all of his courses are interesting -- and the teachers are incredibly supportive on all fronts. Our student's history teacher was the school district's teacher of the year last year. 'Hope this helps offset some of the previous post's negativity.

Rocky Run is a big disappointment, it tauts itself as the "junior TJ", we have been there two years and yet to have one challenging or even interesting project or assignment, and teachers are mediocre at best.

I'll be graduating from Rocky Run in about two weeks, and I can say from the bottom of my heart that it is the Best. School. Ever. It has amazing teachers, who are soooo understanding and ALWAYS there for you no matter what, the principal is really nice as well as the administration, and the academic department is both challenging and fun, and very beneficial. Rocky Run is very diverse, and there is a place for everyone. I'm so glad I went to Rocky Run!

My son had the choice of middle schools to attend because he is in the AAP program .... he chose Rocky Run. We are only in the first 3 months of 7th grade, but choosing RRMS was the best decision ever made!! The school is well run by the principal; the teachers are fantastic and really challenge their students. My son is really living up to his potential - he has made Honor Roll, and really likes going to school. The teachers really encourage and inspire their studients. The school itself is clean, updated, and fosters an excellent learning environment! So glad we are part of the RRMS community!!!

This school has horrible teacher turn over rate. The principal is rude. My daughter got hurt at school and the staff refused to let her call home and get help.
