There is very little social emotional support at this school not a well-balanced demographic either that is representative of other schools in the area. Most teachers do the bare minimum, and the AAP counselor is more of a gate keeper than an educator. Go at you own peril.

This school lacks positive points to note. Parents who can afford to do so often choose to send their children to nearby private schools instead, due to quality of life / school experience concerns as well as quality of education.

We had such a wonderful experience at Crossfield. Not everything is perfect of course. There are plenty of intense parents in this community and poorly behaved children - but that’s life. I found the principal to be very responsive to parent feedback and supportive our our children’s needs.

My child had a terrible introduction to school because of a militant kindergarten teacher and unsupportive staff at Crossfield. After a year at Crossfield, my once fun-loving and jovial 6yo now struggles with low self-esteem, anxiety, and depression. My child’s teacher would shout at my child when she got angry/frustrated, she would shame my child publicly which made them cry on a few occasions, and she even taught my child that they were “self-centered”. My child hates school but worse than that they hate themself, which is heartbreaking. This teacher prefers to teach to a one-sized fits all approach. Meaning, if your child gets “out of line”, or learns differently than the majority, then they are shunned and labeled difficult versus offered support.

It’s not a bad school but it is absolutely not a great one either. Academics are valued over social-emotional learning to the detriment of the kids and the community. Student leaders are not held to the standards that student leaders at other schools are held to. There are have unchecked bullying incidents and little effort to manage them on the part of leadership.

Homework is simply not necessary in elementary and there is no research supporting the benefits.

Fairfax County Public Schools and the Crossfield Administration have their priorities mixed up. Putting revenue before kids. Who wants their child (or any child) to go to an elementary school with a cell phone tower next to it and on the playground. Cell tower safety issues and 6+ years of exposure for kids for a $200 per month rental fee? If this was such a great school, as I thought it was, the School Principal and the Teachers would not put the kids at risk and allow this to happen. I am very disappointed in FCPS and the Crossfield Principal for even entertaining such a concept.

We like the teachers but the administration has tried to push through a cell phone tower right next to the building twice. The first time they stopped because of a petition but they are trying again and it looks like a tower will be put in in January 2017. We will be looking for a new school

The school has great, caring teachers. There is also wonderful community support. Children are challenged academically and the school has been focusing on STEM.

Great teachers, library, extra curriculars and new playground. The students do very well. The special ed students receive a lot of extra help from very caring teachers and staff. Very few ESOL students so those that are there get great attention.

We are very happy with Crossfield. We would never move and risk having to change schools! The teachers do an excellent job with differentiating instruction. The new administration is loved by staff, teachers, students, and parents. Lots of great extracurricular options. Good home for kids of all abilities, including both gifted and special ed.

I recently transferred my daughter from another Fairfax County Elementary school to Crossfield Elementary. Since it was an inter-county transfer, I didn't expect a huge difference between the two schools. Boy was I wrong. The parental involvement at this school is outstanding and is what makes this school excel above other schools in the county offering the same curriculum. Donations and parent support has allowed this school to offer more enrichment courses and after school programs and to me, that is what makes this school stand out in the county.

Unfortunately we've never really been impressed by the teachers (or administration) at Crossfield with either of our kids. Fortunately our daughter got into the AAP (GT) program at Hunters Woods. It's like a different world there, and yet only a mile or so down the road. Our experiences at Hunters Woods have been stellular; much less so at Crossfield. I'm sure in part it's due to the AAP program both as to our personal experiences as well as how the AAP program sets the tone for the entire school.

The teachers and staff at this school are top notch. I have a great deal of experience in education, and Crossfield has been a blessing. They do an incredible job of challenging students and balancing and helping those in need. My own daughter has had an excellent experience in their advanced academics program. On top of that, even within the AAP classroom, there is differentiation and attention to individual needs, both for enrichment and remediation. A good friend of mine has two special needs children that received excellent, caring instruction, and accomplished things that a parent could only hope for from a public school. Again, I have a long background in education, and I would highly recommend this school to any family.
