My two children, now Pre-k 4 and Kindergarten, have attended Sandpiper since the day the turned 2.5 years old. We counted down the days until we could enroll them. They THRIVE every single day under the incredible leadership of Ms. Jackie, Ms. LeAnne, and Ms. Michelle. Not to mention the other teachers, assistants, substitutes, and parents who are actively involved in this little community. Our children are loved, cared for, and heard on a daily basis. They come home each day excited to tell me what they learned, what project they were working on, what research they did, etc. What a nurturing environment! We truly couldn’t ask for a better school for our children.

One step into Sandpiper Montessori and you will understand why there are way more outstanding reviews here and on other platforms than negative. Sure, do your research, and when doing that research, if there are DSS complaints or violations, I challenge you to find a school out there that doesn’t have a single one. And when that DSS complaint or violation is from YEARS ago, and the teacher in question no longer works at the school, then truly look at the school for what it is TODAY. It’s a loving, caring, nurturing place where your children can (and will) thrive too. Ms. Jackie pours her heart and soul into Sandpiper Montessori and all of the children under her care. Look forward, not back, to see all of the amazing things happening at Sandpiper.

My two sons are very different- one is very interested in facts and logic, while the other enjoys creativity and dramatic play. One learns traditional concepts like letters and numbers quickly, but struggles with social situations and spatial concepts. The other is slowly learning his letters and took little interest in counting, but loves building and solving puzzles or creating artwork. While these are not dramatic learning differences, the school accommodated both styles, allowing my sons to be who they are, but also encouraging them to try new things beyond their comfort zones.

My sons have NEVER been bullied at Sandpiper. They call all the kids their friends and talk about how much they love the school. When my 3 year old had some difficulties where he was the one being unkind, the school handled it beautifully. He learned from the experience, certainly!

My son does not have homework- he does, however, often come home with ideas for "work" he wants to continue doing at home, on his own!

The teachers are masters, not only in Montessori methods, but also in child development. Throughout the year, at formal conferences and during informal times like pick up and drop off, it was evident that every teacher knew my son well and also knew what he needed.

My younger son had some typical preschool discipline difficulties- temper tantrums, not wanting to nap. The school used these incidents as learning opportunities. He never felt "punished", but instead used language like "I want to try to use my hands to help others" and asked to make hearts to give to his friends to make them feel better. It is clear that the actions taken by staff immediately after he misbehaved made a big impression and taught him something useful instead of making him feel ashamed, while also ensuring he does not continue the behavior in the future.

Miss Jackie is a professional and honestly one of the most caring people I have ever met. She surrounds herself with people who handle certain aspects of the school and delegates well. She also provides opportunities for parents to get involved and help out. I feel very confident leaving my son at the school each day.

Our older son is in kindergarten and no longer goes to Sandpiper. The staff acts like he is the mayor when he comes to visit! He continues to feel loved by the school a year later. My younger son has been at Sandpiper since he was 2.5 and will be there until he is 6. He adores the school and gets mopey when we drive by on weekends, saying "I miss my school!" We could not have asked for a better preschool experience!

The most caring teachers and staff I have encountered in Virginia Beach. The youngest of my three attended Sandpiper. I wish my older ones could have had this same experience.

We absolutely loved our time at Sandpiper Montessori. The staff was exceptional, the children were amazing and the curriculum was perfect for our son. I wouldn't change a thing about this school or our experience.

Our daughter has completed 2 full school years at Sandpiper Montessori after starting right at 2 1/2 years old (earliest admission). Our family toured 3 other Montessori schools in the area before falling in love with this one. You can feel the love and kindness from the moment you walk in! I love that the school is set back from the street and it’s an entire building, like a house for them to learn practical life aside their lessons. Ms. Jackie has many years experience with Montessori teaching and genuinely loves her students. They get a lot of outside play time, voluntary yoga or soccer, take field trips, exposure to cooking/helping prepare food and get to participate in gardening! The children really develop independence from being in a place that fosters that behavior. Within a short time, our daughter was putting her shoes on/off herself and many other things with little to no assistance. They were also EXTREMELY patient with the potty training process with our child and had a positive impact. Some of the staff are parents of current children attending and it really has become a “family” at the school. If this is what you’re looking for, look no further...you won’t be sorry!

No homework. Why should preschoolers have homework??

Practical guidance to life and building good relationships besides the required lessons.

Children here become mindful and considerate. It’s very nice to see the progress made!

5 stars! I was not looking for a school that felt like a close family and I truly feel that I have found it. We are a military family so we appreciate a small school that feels like a second home.

No homework is sent home for my 3 year old daughter, but seeing how curious and appreciative of her surroundings is in my option a great daily homework. She asks me so many why questions that I can't keep up with her.

Miss. Nikki is very passionate about her profession and the kids love her. She is a hand on teacher and I truly appreciate it.

My daughter is learning to work independently, share, apologize, respect, love, and be honest. She has been in this school for two months, but she is just as concious and mature as my 7 year old daughter.

This school feels like a big family. They are very understanding of parent's work schedules. I had to leave my daughter early multiple times and they were completely okay with that.

My daughter was not potty trained when she started attending school and within three days she was good to go!

When we left the school, the owner said she hoped I wouldn’t blast negative details in online reviews. I am upholding my verbal agreement to not share details, but I still feel it’s necessary to express my rating of this school with fellow parents.

If you’re a prospective parent touring local schools, I urge you to look up Dept. of Social Services inspections, verify all accreditations and affiliations listed on websites, and to speak with fellow parents for their opinions - for ANY school you’re interested in.

Montessori is founded in respect of other people. As such, this is a critical component of the curriculum at Sandpiper.

Miss Jackie taught both my daughter and son from the time they were 3-6 years. I am a firm believer in Montessori as a unique and solid foundation for a life filled with a love of learning. Miss Jackie's implementation of Montessori is outstanding - she has a solid understanding of the pedagogy with over 20 years of experience as a Montessori educator combined with a true love of children. Her new facility at Sandpiper is gorgeous. Filled to the brim with true Montessori "works" and natural light.
