My kids thrive here. I still can't believe there is such an incredible school in such a rural area. Truly caring teachers, staff, and students. We just moved here recently, my kids were so behind, and they've caught my kids up. So thankful!

A Truly Nurturing and Exceptional Educational Home!

We have had such a wonderful experience at Hillsboro Charter Academy! The environment is truly unique, offering a deeply personalized and engaging educational approach that larger schools simply can't match.

The small class sizes (one per grade) mean that every child receives individualized attention and their specific needs are recognized and supported. The teachers and staff are incredibly dedicated, passionate, and welcoming. They foster a strong sense of community that feels more like a family than a school. A special highlight has been the amazing addition of the new house system, which has created cross-grade bonding and a palpable atmosphere of positive collaboration and spirit! We are consistently impressed by the level of rigor and creativity in the curriculum, which truly challenges students to think critically and explore diverse subjects, as shown by the HCA SOL scores and the ITEEA STEM School of Excellence Award that was received for the past 6 years.

The building has a lovely, historic charm and is clearly well-maintained, offering a safe and secure setting. Furthermore, the administration is highly accessible and encourages open communication with parents, making us feel heard and valued. HCA is an absolute gem in the community and provides a top-tier foundational education for its students. We couldn't be happier with our child's growth and progress here.

So grateful for HCA. Our kids love it, they encourage family involvement since it's a small school and everyone needs to pitch in. My kids are curious, they work well in groups, they ask questions, it's all a tribute to the skills they are learning at Hillsboro Charter. These other comments about lack of diversity are ridiculous. How can you say this school is any better, worse, or lacking than any other school based on attributes that the students can't control? Students are admitted through a randomized lottery, the school has no control over who attends or doesn't attend. We've had an amazing experience and wish that more people could come to HCA!

I went to a small school in a rural area growing up and wanted that for my children. It's the perfect blend of challenging curriculum and collaboration between the scholars (they call them scholars not students). In this part of the county, houses are spread out far and wide, a lot of the school is closer to West Virginia than they are to Ashburn! They embrace being rural which compared to the rest of the county is about as diverse as it gets. My children get excited to go to school, they have a love of learning, and they love engineering and science which they get a lot of. We're so happy to have HCA near us and thankful for the opportunity that it's a free public school.

I don't know what we would do without this incredible resource in our community. My two kids were at their normal LCPS schools and they did not do well at all. We found out about the lottery and applied and thankfully we got in. It was the best thing that happened to us. In Western Loudoun there just aren't a lot of options and having a choice like Hillsboro Charter was a God send. They are THRIVING and the new team structure they incorporated this year has helped a lot with behavior issues they were having in the past. Best part is it's part of LCPS and it's completely free and my kids before were behind and now they are testing above grade level. Can't say enough good things!

1 star for each category so that the review will submit but would give zero stars. ItÂ’s obvious the puffing for this charter school is done by the staff so they can keep their jobs to educate 144 kids funded by LCPS and tax payers in the amount of over $4M. There is a disturbing lack of oversight at and of this school where not only is the school not ADA compliant, it is in violation of other federal laws.

We removed our child from this school due to noncompliance of federal laws regarding IDEA/ADA, etc. The charter school is K-5 and there is one class for each grade with 24 kids in each class. One would think due to HCA being such a small school that the teachers and staff would ensure the safety of ALL students and treat all fairly and equitably. But this is NOT the case. The school lacks diversity overall in both staff and students/families. The lottery seems to be a sham and the students are homogenous and does not reflect diversity.

You will be blacklisted and slandered if you raise concerns about safety, equity, and rigor of the curriculum. ItÂ’s an old, dilapidated, and unsafe school building that is run by a bunch of spoiled folk with hatred for those that donÂ’t look like them.

VDOE and US DOE should audit the school to ensure compliance with federal laws. This school is a liability for LCPS.

Two thumbs down. Imho this school has the worst leadership. My child doesn't learn anything and the kids seemed bored. When we brought this to the charter school leadership we were retaliated against. Gross oversight of tax payer dollars and unethical staff. Do not recommend.

Our experience at Hillsboro Charter Academy (HCA) has been exceptional. HCA's thoughtful preparation ensured our child's seamless transition to middle school. The emphasis on soft skills through the STEAM curriculum has fostered our child's independent and creative thinking.

The unique leadership model at HCA stands out. The two deans, also full-time teachers, manage their administrative duties outside of class time. This keeps the administration directly connected to the students' needs. The shared leadership model ensures that all voices, from scholars to faculty to the community, are heard and valued.

HCA's approach to education and its innovative leadership structure make it an outstanding institution. Our childÂ’s growth and positive experience have confirmed that HCA was the right choice.

Hillsboro Charter Academy is an amazing find! It just received the stateÂ’s highest honor (again!) and is nationally recognized as one of the best (if not, THE best) public engineering/STEM/STEAM schools for elementary students. The teachers and staff really care about their young scholars and reinforce the integrated curriculum with hands-on collaborative learning in a special block each day.

HCA engages the community in frequent events and communicates with parents constantly. In fact, with the schoolÂ’s chosen app, I can see into my daughterÂ’s learning daily through classroom photographs and teacher postings and can easily message her teacher if I ever have a question or concern. Everyone at HCA has been responsive and helpful at every turn.

The student-teacher ratio is much better than paper suggests, as the school supplements its primary classroom teachers with many teaching assistants—some of whom are certified/retired teachers. HCA also pushes into the classroom with their fantastic specials teachers (Art, Music, Library, STEAM/Engineering, PE, Math—yes, they even have a math specialist).

I love that technology supports the learning without replacing teaching. My older children moved up to middle school with robust technology skills and no related bad habits. My young one is currently thriving at her beloved Hillsboro Charter Academy. Our family couldnÂ’t be more pleased with this incredible little school.

Our kids THRIVE at this school. We finally got in to the school and it's been the best experience. For being a STEAM school they are on their devices significantly less than they were at their home LCPS school.

Hillsboro Charter School is a beacon of learning and joy for our children. As a parent, I couldn't be happier with the nurturing environment and top-notch education they provide.

One of the standout features of HCA is its dedicated and passionate teaching staff. They go above and beyond to ensure every child feels supported and encouraged to reach their full potential. Whether it's through innovative lesson plans, creative projects, or one-on-one support, the teachers truly invest in each student's success.

We've always felt safe at HCA any issues were addressed quickly and fairly. The campus is secure, and protocols are in place to ensure a safe learning environment at all times.

We love this school!

Incredible teachers who truly care about the students and create opportunities you won't find at a regular school. Being able to choose to be a part of this school is what makes it special, it's been a great fit for our family. They emphasize a STEAM based curriculum that is very much project based and incorporates a lot of collaboration. Thankful for the opportunity to be a part of it, that it's free, and that it's part of LCPS.
