Love the administration and attentiveness. Teachers love their students. Very safe and friendly environment. Plus.its walking distance with underground walkways for kids safety means the community put thought in the infrastructure when building this school.

The school has really good ratings and I believe that most of it can be contributed to State Testing. The school is located in a very new and safe neighborhood and is walking distance to most homes in the area. There is an underground tunnel that connects the school to the other neighborhoods so that students can walk independently and not cross a busy intersection. The school has had lots of changes regarding staffing and administration. The pandemic has definitely put a big strain on the school and what sort of things it can accomplish. My child is doing great in the school in grade 2 and now 3rd. My child has scored above the average in all of the MAP testing and the Virginia SOL testing in Reading and Math. I believe that the teachers really teach to the standards and make lessons based on the state standards. The students review a lot for what will be on these tests and are prepared in what to expect. From an Academic point of you, I do believe that he students receive a good and safe education. From a social and holistic perspective, i believe that the school is very bland. Students do not participate in plays/drama or choir/chorus before 4th grade. There is no Art show nor do the students bring any interesting art projects home. There is a disconnect on many occasions between the school and the parents of what the students actually do all day. The students spend a lot of time on their chromebooks and most of the work is on Schoology and they do not bring much home in their folders. There haven't been any after school programs last school year nor this school year. To summarize, I think that from an Academic perspective the school fulfills its duties but from a social and emotional perspective, I believe gifted and different children fall through the cracks as the "Whole Child" is completely ignored. Teacher emails are often rather short and snippy as if they work in a corporation and not school. I was very excited about the school from before moving here because the rating are so high but I have to say that my family is looking into other options moving forward for all of our children that will pass through this school that we are zoned for. My child does feel happy and safe at the school so that is not compromised. But as a parent, I would just want better for my child to thrive in all of their multiple intelligences.
