Only go to this school if you need character development, or if you want a vitamin D deficiency. I am deadass.

As a student, my teachers here are great, but the admin here is the main issue. Me and my peers feel as if we have no say in our learning and our experience at Simpson. Our admin feels super out-of-touch with what students enjoy and what makes learning exciting and fun for us, neither do I feel safe with the constant fights that happen here. To our principal and other admins, me and my peers simply just feel like a test score to them- not students whose experience is taken into account at all. If you are considering putting your child in Simpson, be prepared to hear about school rules that simply make no sense, being yelled at for simply no reason other than having a drink or whatever rule they decide to make up next, the scary environment around their fellow students, and much more.

Being a student here, I like the overall kindness of the teachers, and they are all really helpful. The area is good too.

As a parent who had many kids go through this school I was not impressed. With any school there are some really excellent teachers, and some that should not be in any social setting, much less put in a position to "teach" kids. The gym is dangerous and we have had accidents almost every year. Admin team changed in the past few years and my few interactions have been pretty neutral. The PTO is active and good at supporting the school's needs. The office staff is overall friendly and helpful. My kids have never had any issue getting into the classes they want to take. There seems to be fights a lot we get notifications more from Simpson than we do from the high school! One of the APs caused an incident with my son and we will be withdrawing him from the school since it was handled so poorly. We hope no other family ever has to deal with him.

I have had the pleasure of knowing so many of the fabulous staff & teachers that work to make JL Simpson such a fantastic school for over 20 years! My daughter is now currently a 6 grader and absolutely loves it…which started from early engagement with the school while she was in 5th grade! I can’t say enough positive things about JL Simpson Middle School…it’s a wonderful place for our children!

There are many caring and very effective teachers at this school. The administration is where parents will see issues. Decisions are made haphazardly and the communication and responses to emails/phone calls are slow or non-existent.

JLSMS is a wonderful school! The principal is supportive, accessible and the students love him. The teachers are fabulous! My children's teachers are dedicated and always happy to help outside of class if needed. JLSMS and its staff have risen to the occasion and are tackling distance and hybrid learning during this crazy school year. Did I say that my kids LOVE their teachers?!

Mediocre at best. It’s exactly what I thought a public middle school would be, nothing more nothing less.

Posted: May 23, 2019

You will love the worksheets they send home - every single night. It’s busy work and so not innovative.

Posted: May 23, 2019

Depends on who you get. Some are wonderful and care about the students, others should really consider their career options if they don’t like kids this age or teaching...

We have not seen a lot of great things this school year. Looks like the school is trying to implement project-based learning but still having issue with staff but-in and it shows.

Posted: May 23, 2019

They have honors and regular classes and integrate special needs children in the classroom as much as they can.

Posted: May 23, 2019

No issues and have not heard of any this school year 2018-19.

The Administration is stellar at this school. My son is in 7th grade there and is having a very positive experience. There have been hiccups and not everyone is an "A" teacher/staff member but this school does a better job than most of creating a nurturing environment.
