On paper, LVHS should be one of the strongest school communities in the area. The issue is not potential; it is the lack of visible leadership, consistency, and care. The school often feels fragmented, with students, teachers, parents, and programs operating in silos instead of as one united community. Homecoming should build pride and connection, but that spirit barely reaches many students. Administration appears most visible at public events, photo opportunities, and high-attendance parent moments, but less present in daily student life. Too many students move through the building without feeling known or valued unless they are connected to the right program, family, or circle. Students can go from feeling known in middle school to feeling labeled, dismissed, or overlooked at Valley. The absence of administration at key events is noticed, especially when students who have worked hard receive little acknowledgment. In the name of equality, it can feel like almost no one is celebrated. In the name of maintaining the “right” message, it can feel like people are afraid to speak honestly. The idea that LVHS is a true free speech environment does not match many families’ experiences unless their student shares admins personal views. Valley should challenge students, value different perspectives, and remember that teenagers need structure, guidance, fairness, and good judgment from adults. Some teachers are wonderful: supportive, creative, and deeply invested in students. They are often the reason families continue to believe in LVHS. But the best teachers and program leaders seem to carry too much with too little support, especially when they do not align neatly with administration’s preferred philosophy or priorities. The building also needs attention. LVHS feels poorly maintained compared with many Loudoun schools. The lack of care shows in overcrowding and ongoing concerns about bugs and cockroaches. Students should not be posting pest photos from school. An older building is not an excuse for an unhealthy environment. LVHS needs a true culture reset: leadership beyond photo ops, fairness beyond a small, favored circle, accountability beyond messaging, better care for the building, and a real commitment to making every student feel known, challenged, supported, and proud to be part of Valley.

Overall, Loudoun Valley High School is a great school, but the principal leaves a lot to be desired. She doesn't support teachers, is abusive to staff, and acts like she would like to be anywhere else, but there with those of us doing our best to give students good educational and life support. The same goes for the Special Education department chair. Most of my students love it at Valley, but most of the staff does not.

The principal is useless and not involved in student life at all. Locked up in her office all day long and does not come out. Dangerous school with drugs literally everywhere.

Some teachers don't give us enough, and some give us too much, but honestly the workload of homework is normal.

This is one I have to disagree on. This may be more of a geography and local culture thing, but our school is definitely a little behind in equality on the basis of race/sexual orientation/etc.

This is a mixed bag. While the administration and leaders of our school do try to help us, it simply doesn't work sometimes. We are given 30 minutes in the morning for homework, teacher help, etc. but most don't do anything during that time.

I'm not educated enough on this topic to make a statement, but some rumors have gone around how students with learning disabilities are treated wrongly.

I'm kind of in the middle on this. While there isn't really bullying as in kids get their stuff shoved out of their hands and their lunch money stolen, (actually nevermind theft is a problem here) there is definitely an environment here where some people may feel left out.

While I did say some negative things about this school, honestly most of the teachers, students, and administration here do have their heart in the right place. All we need is a little restructuring.

3/10 the only reason why I didn't give them a 0/10 is because three teachers. They helped me survive and actually cared about me. I owe them a lot and I'm blessed to have met them

Leadership? Psh this school doesn't know the meaning of that. The only ones who are "leaders" are the popular kids and all the other students follow them blindly even the teachers get involved

WRONG! I could not disagree more! I only spent one year at this school and I'm so glad I left! There is so much bullying going on the teachers themselves even do it. But rather the school stepping up and doing something about it they turn a blind eye and put up this big front acting like this school is Gods gift to the earth. This school destroyed me as a person and I still haven't fully recovered.

The teachers here don't care about any of the students. And they barely teach you anything. The only teachers I loved during my freshman year Was Mrs. Andrea, Mr. Sheehan, and Mr. Philips. They were the only ones that actually cared about how I was doing

I spent my freshman year at Loudoun Valley High School... and I’m so glad I moved to a different district. Moving to a new school showed me how little the teachers know and how little they care to teach their students and prepare them for college. It also showed me how never having any homework is not normal! This school takes 45 minutes out of the kids’ class time for “homework time” every morning, when they already have an 1.5 hour study hall. They are allowed to talk the whole time. I took a pre AP world history course, and I never even heard the word college board, and I barely learned a thing or had any homework in that class. I took the state required SOL’s and I saw maybe 3 kids actually receive a more than average score. Loudoun Valley has gone down the tubes since my siblings graduated just a few years ago, and I am very disappointed in their standards concerning work ethic, homework, and college preparation. This school wants to release the stress off of the kids, but they have pleased them too much. Since moving to my new school, I have realized how far behind I was in my whole entire high school experience.

I heard from my friend that the teachers dont even teach in class to prepare the kids. One of my friend's son takes AP classes and all they except from the kids to learn by themself. They dont even use the books that are up to date and recommended by college board for AP classes. So if you want your kid to take AP exams and excell well, go else where...

I really enjoyed going to school here. The teachers were awesome. The school was always trying to find new ways to teach subjects. While I was there they tried to teach AP US History along side of AP Language to show how literature and history evolved together.

I've been very happy with my experience at Valley HS the last 8 years. I've had 2 boys graduate with a daughter presently attending and they have all had a wonderful experience in high school. Staff is responsive and supportive. Students are respectful and overall good kids. It's the perfect size, not too large but big enough to find many different social groups. County just did nice renovations to the school and sports fields in 2014. I'd send my grandchildren here...when the time comes. :o)

I love Valley. The school spirit is great and it makes all the students feel like they really belong. Everyone I've met has been very kind and ambitious; there are a few stray students who could do better, but they are the outliers and generally students value hard work instead of partying. The teachers are all very well trained and genuinely care about the success and well-being of the students and the rest of the faculty is eager to help in any way they can.

This school is outstanding. I have two children currently enrolled at LVHS and both love it and are receiving a wonderful education.My kids are two very different people with very different interests, and the fact that both equally enjoy the school says it all. One of my daughters is a cheerleader and loves it. The other is in the student council and KEY club and adores both programs. The principal is wonderful and involved with all of the programs. The teachers are excellent. Both of my daughters are in all the honors and AP classes they can take and have immensely enjoyed the challenges they offer. The school spirit (chiefly the student section present at all varsity games known as "The Jungle") is just amazing. Valley also has a wonderful reputation for its high test scores and impressive college admissions. You cannot go wrong if you choose this school.

We just finished our first year in this area of Western Loudoun County and we love it. There is a new high school (Woodgrove) that opened, so now the student population at Loudoun Valley HS is "normal"... should be about 1000 students for the 2011-2012 school year. The middle schools are back to being "normal" (i.e., 6th thru 8th grade). LVHS took away the "temporary classroom" buildings that lined the front of the school, and has let go of some teachers, etc. to accomodate the smaller student body. My 3 teens have enjoyed the year and made friends fairly easily.
