Like I read in another review, teachers closed down the FEMALE BATHROOMS and left the males bathroom open. One of my friends had her period and it went through her underwear because the bathrooms were not open. The reason they did that was because of some kids smoking in the bathrooms( and the good kids are being punished for it)but the bathrooms are needed for many issues around the school and many girls including myself are not very happy about this because I dont like having to ask to go and then get told no and then have to say why I have to go (periods) and especially not to the male teachers. Many of the teachers before this were threatening to remove our bathroom privileges but its just human nature to have to go and it seems unreasonable to keep up from doing something we have to. (The bathrooms are closed lunches and passing periods too). It seems like they are targeting the women in this situation because like I said the male bathroom is OPEN. The teachers also keep us past the bell multiple times to make us pick up trash from classes before and because they dont know how to teach faster and effectively (some teachers just dont have their stuff together) and they punish us for it. Also, theres some really rude teachers that talk to their students in a very rude manner and point them out and embarrass them for doing nothing. I think this school doesnt know how to control anything, closing the bathroom is NOT going to stop substance abuse. They always find other places. I dont think its a good idea to ever come to this school if you are a human with human needs( like going to the bathroom) so yea, theres many of better schools out there.

The amount of problems this school hads does not outweigh the slightly above average test scores and the good sports teams the amount of drugs and violence at the school is unreal the lack of funding is pathetic as someone who is part of the baseball and football team we probably spent maybe $80,000 on the baseball field alone but we cant get new textbooks we have new football football helmets every year but we dont have AC in some of my class rooms I would be willing to put money on the fact that half of the school vapes I some of my fellow seniors sell juuls out to freshman for $20 profit the school has a athletic policy where you cant use drug and all that however over the last 6 years my 4 and my brothers last 2 there has never once been a drug test even though the football coach knows there are kids doing steroids now onto the drug and violence problem the administration pretends we dont have in my 4 years I have been in 7 fights in the bathrooms never once did anyone get in trouble and there was once that we had girls doing coke in the bathroom at school the school is to small to handle the amount of kids causing this problem this school is a joke end of story

My experience at north kitsap has been horrific. Although there are some great teachers here, most staff members only seem to care for athletes and academic scholars. When I have reached out for support and help in my schooling, I have been pushed to the waste side. The staff members only make way for a select group of prided students. The social environment is also terrible. Kids are always stomping on others to feel good about themselves. There are also major substance abuse problems within the school. I can never use a bathroom without coming across kids smoking or using drugs if some kind in there. Staff closed all the bathrooms except one to tackle the issue. However, this solved no substance abuse issues and caused an oder to arise in the main hall. The school is so overcrowded and chaotic that the staff has no way to control these issues. I also was not given equal academic opportunity in all my classes. In my spanish class do not have desks, because the school doesnt have enough money. Yet, the football team always is getting new uniforms and equipment. The school only takes care of their favorite students. So, if you are the quarterback I am sure you will love going to this school, but if you are a kid like me who is just wanting to get a good education, you may find yourself emotionally and physically shattered here. The only reason I am still pushing on through this hell is so I can get my diploma and never look back.

My child transferred into the North Kitsap School District to start high school as a 9th grader at NKHS. The school administration and teachers have been super supportive in helping ensure my child's success in adapting and fitting in as a new kid. We have found that the school provides a lot of opportunities for success with a great selection of classes and strong extra curricular activities.

My child transferred in to NKHS mid-year. THis could have been a disaster any where else but the team at NK made sure he found his place. Class choices were excellent and opportunities to get involved are abundant.

My child has attend NKHS for the past 2 years and we have been looking for a new school mid way through the first year. There are some wonderful, dedicated teachers here but the behavior of the students toward each other and toward the teachers is atrocious. Overall, the students create a hostile learning environment by constantly disrupting classes, picking on one another, using vulgar and insulting language when addressing teachers, and spreading vicious rumors about anyone they don't like. I have never encountered kids who are so disrespectful, intolerant, close-minded, ill-mannered, unwelcoming and down right mean. Bullying in all forms is rampant; the school is so big and over crowded that the administration has been ineffective in bringing it under control. Newcomers beware, you will not be greeted with open arms. This is not a welcoming place, you will face being excluded to the point of being ostracized, hated, and have a very difficult time making friends. Your child will get an education here but the cost to their overall well being is too high.

I am very concerned. I haven't checked this site in years. But it seems the school's in Poulsbo are declining! I moved our family here all the way from Arizona. We did extensive research about the quality of schools in Poulsbo. And at the time that rating was pretty good. I am worried now that my children are almost done with elementary that they are going to be entering into a less than satisfactory middle school and high school. Is this the case? Many of the reviews here are outdated. Can anyone offer up some current information please? I am rating the school "average" because I have to rate something and I honestly have no idea how it is. I figure an "average" rating won't hurt or help undeserved.
