This school does a good job taking care of the whole child. There are clubs, classes, teachers, etc that support mental and emotional wellness. My daugther attended private school all her life and Hazen being her first public school has not disappointed. She has not experienced any bullying and/or drugs. There is some evidence of it in the bathroom but she has never seen it herself. She feels challenged but not overwhelmed. We are quite happy with the staff! Note that truly this School is an 8 / 10 based on academics. If your child is middle to higher, I can definitely recommend. I cannot speak for the 3/10 which refers to "equity". They could possibly work on helping struggling students, yes.

My daughter has really enjoyed her experience here so far. She is a junior this year. She is on track for college and excelling academically and socially. One thing she did do starting freshman year is get involved in extracurricular school activities.
There are on average about 25 kids in her classes.
Over the last 3 years any time I had any questions or concerns I received immediate responses from whomever I reached out to be it a teacher or their Principal.
The teachers here want to help your kids be properly prepared for college or technical school and the Running Start options are great although my daughter is applying out of state so she isnt going down that path.
Parents here are involved in their kids education which is apparent from the flood of people on parent teacher nights.
Regarding safety, I feel the school takes student safety seriously and addresses all concerns immediately as they should.
We are very happy.
Our daughter has no learning issues so I feel that is harder to rate as we have no experience with that aspect of the school.

Not at all. Me and my son are still devestated on how he was treated for being different then the other students who functioned well in classes, who's attendances were A+ but because of my son not meeting other students requirements and being special ed, he was dropped from school, he did good until he came to No Hazen, he had an awesome team of support in his past at schools. I was afraid this would happen. It's sad that the head in charge would rather drop, then help, just to get high ratings for this school. Breaks myheart...I do thank the teachers that did try to help my son, a blessing.

The staff is not friendly nor are they helpful...on the other hand few of the teachers care. Needs a better headperson in charge who will talk to all parents, intstead of using staff to communicate for her, one who cares for all people of color and their childs needs.

Hazen High School - if you're super smart or super challenged, its the school for you. If you rest in the middle there's only a few good teachers that care.

I have two current students, and two graduates from Hazen. It has been a uniformly great experience. The students get along well, the parents are friendly and helpful, and the staff is motivated to get the most out of every student. It's tough being bordered by wealthier and academically higher rated schools, but I am completely happy with the decision to have all of my kids go K-12 at Renton schools

I am a student who is currently enrolled in Hazen High School The course selection is improving, but is still somewhat limited for any students who are interested in attending competitive schools. In terms of science, it is downright debilitating, as the 9th grade science course is deemed unnecessary by many, but testing out of the class is not permitted. The AP course selection is becoming better, but it could still be improved. Teacher quality is varied. Some teachers are extremely skilled, while others are downright incompetent. Resources are, again, limited. If a student is interested in attending a prestigious college, none of the resources available will be any help at all whatsoever. Extensive research must be done on the student's own time. Curriculum and student assistance are tailored to the assumption that students are primarily interested in attended the state flagship, UW Seattle. The school, overall, does a moderate job at informing students about opportunities. The Culminating Project program is perhaps one of the school's greatest flaws. It attempts to help students learn about college, but the design is so poor that it's an annoyance, rather than an assistance.
