This page keeps reloading.
8th grade counselor is unresponsive.
Requests for special needs accommodations are largely ignored.
Most teachers do not post lessons or assignments online for students who miss school for medical reasons.
No on-site tutoring is available.
Bathrooms are disgusting.
The nurse is rarely ever in.
There are a few excellent, engaged teachers and administrators, but for the most part this school is overwhelmed and ill-equipped to deal with much beyond business as usual.
Their lockdown processes appear to be sound, though.
Coming from the wonderful Maple Elementary, Mercer Middle School has been a real disappointment. We look forward to a hopefully better experience at Cleveland High.

As a former student of this school i do not recommend this school or at least right now this school was built in 1957 when i walk into the cafeteria on the wall near the doors i see 5-9 awards but that means nothing just a plastic poster with a year and how well the school did on that year its really impressive how good they kept the school saying it has lasted like 75 years with no rebuilding i really hope i was born 7-8 years later so i could go to the new building the building itself is just old saying how long ago it was built maybe your child is in 2nd grade well maybe go to this school if your child is in 5th grade in 2021 dont suggest going right now choose another school this place is way to crowded with the old building and that's why i said if you or your child is 2nd or lower by that time they are in 5-7th they would have built the new design with bigger student capacity and space to learn the teachers are good its just if you listen or if you really want to learn as a person that Procrastinate when i can it sure isnt good but i sure did learn a lot just paying attention and turning in work the school sure does have a lot of feild but they did not design it properly most common sport is just frisbee looking at the plans of them making a two floor school that could save a lot of space and expand more for students to learn i really think if your child is going to turn 6th grade in fall of 2025 then try putting them in this school with the teachers that stuck with this school for more than 10 years of teaching the same thing and a new design that could fit more students i really think they could get 2-20 more plastic posters with another 64ish years of opening wish you luck on how you choose your childs school just hope you dont put your child in this school from 2021-2024 because its already crowded and how much portables they had to put out around the school to have place for students to learn school board did rearrange some people to go to other schools because of the overcrowded school i really just hate how it took them 64ish years and now they are planning on rebuilding with the councils pending on signing the "landmark structure" they really care more about keeping old buildings then how much quality the students will learn when staying in the building good thing they are not being cheap this time and having a 152.5M dollars budget

There are a handful of helpful teachers, but if your child doesn't fall into place they will quickly fall between the cracks if your not on it. I have been told by the teachers they do not have the resources to help my son who has ADHD when asking for a way to make the material interesting to the students.

They try to set models but do not follow through with the students. They have admitted there are just too many students for them to have time to work with any one student.

Leadership for students in need is absent. The administration at this school is interested in helping kids who are in the immersion program and those with high test scores. But what about the kids who needs extra help, who may not test good? Their methods of discipline are very harsh. instead of educational and helpful to ensure the student earns from their mistake. I've had the 7th grade admin admit to me that she used suspension as a method of coercion to get the 'truth' from my son as she did not believe him. This was coming from a woman who had only known him for 2 months and this was the first time he had ever been in trouble. Mind you the incident was because he ran up to another kid thinking it was his friend and grabbed their umbrella only to find out it was not the person he thought it was and then apologized.

Again, they have admitted they do not have the resources to help with students that may learn differently. Their modo is very standardized learning, books and sit the kids in front of a computer. There is very little hands on learning.

They do not offer mediation. Bullying is something that should be addressed with more than just discipline but also a chance for the students to talk and resolve any differences and show them positive conflict resolution.

There is little to no homework, I have asked my sons teachers for extra help so we can work with him at home and they have very little resources for us at home other than unfinished class work and a math packet copied out of a text book.

This school is not equipped to help students that learn differently. Standardized academics do not work for every learner. There are too many students and too few resources for a school of this size to effectively reach all their students.

Excellent school with excellent teachers. If you have a choice, send your child to this school! They have high quality staff and respectable students. Also, if your child has a medical condition, there happens to be a hospital right next door! Fun Fact: The previous WA governor (Gary Locke) attended this school.

I actually love mercer. I'm going to 8th grade this year(2014-2015). Sometimes it's hard to find out who the real and fake ones are at mercer. Teachers are actually helpful and I love how they try to be like us teenagers these days. The homework isn't hard at all to be honest, just ask for help and they will help you right away.

Mercer middle school-was a waste of 3years of my life I wish I could get back.i am happy to never return.this school led me to weight problems and eating my feelings away it changed me for the worse.

I agree with below. Best 3 years of my life. Although the school is harsh on its punishments. For example, in washington middle school, one fight = 3 day suspension. At mercer, one fight = expulsion

Mercer Middle School is the BEST school ever. I went their for 6th grade but moved ): This school has everything. I love their lunch choices, the teachers, play equipment, & diversity. If you live around the Beacon Hill area in Seattle I recommend that you go to Mercer. It will be the best 3 years of your life.

As a former student, I'd say being in this school was the best 3 years of my life. I loved the teachers(they really get to know students there), the music program wasn't the best compared to other middle schools but was still fun to be in(band/orchestra contests and concerts especially), and the honors/Spectrum taught by experienced teachers really gets hardworking students ahead. Of all the sports teams in mercer, the ultimate frisbee teams were the best(judging by all their trophies- I never joined, though). If only I could relive 7th and 8th grade...
