I have a student there now and another on the way next year- The community cares so much about the children attending school there. The teachers, educators, support and principal are always in support of the childrens needs. I enjoy seeing the teachers receive my child with a smile and warm support as they enter the building. The communication is always comfortable and easy.

Our school geo-area changed with our second son and we were assigned to B.F. Day. I was initially skeptical to switch from our older son's elementary but wow, was I wrong. My son started in 1st grade and had one amazing teacher after another. We had a modified version of the 4th/5th mini-middle school because of covid, but his 3 teachers were total rock stars, and met kids where they were both academically and socio-emotionally. The community values at this school were also strong, the PTSA worked to support teachers and kids and build an inclusive community. The school counselor Mr. Taylor is also a gem, and Principle Jaskot is very supported by teachers is amazing. I'm so grateful to B.F. Day!

The staff at this school are absolutely exceptional. We have had a phenomenal experience with two students at every grade level. We feel incredibly fortunate to have this school available to our family.

Horrible staff who are negative and not knowledgeable about learning difficulties. Principal is not responsive, teachers push medicating students and use demeaning tactics and punishments.

This school is great if you enjoy a chilly parent/teacher relationship with teachers who won't even make eye contact, a principal who is unresponsive to parent concerns, and fellow parents who are classist, elitist snobs.

BF Day is family to our kids. The school climate is positive, there are lots of involved families, the faculty and staff are caring and brilliant. It's a small hidden (not over crowded) gem in the middle of Fremont.

Cannot agree more. Thus is an i clusion, whole-child centered school. Dragon dens which are mixed grade socio-emotional groups help bring the learning up to more than just academics.

With SEL and SPED units as well as SPP+ kids (preschool) this school has been afforded some resources other schools do not. Although, we can always use more instructional assistants!!

When our daughter turned 5, we got scared from the 6/10 score that BFDay had and we decided to enroll her in a private school for her K year and planning to keep her there for the following elementary years.
After the Kindergarten year in this "famous", popular, expensive and hard to get in private school, we decided that it was time for our daughter to have something more. And it was NOT a financial decision. We decided to go to BF Day. Oh well, what a change! From the amazing principal, to the outstanding teachers, the fabulous art and music teachers, the caring staff. The PTSA is constantly and deeply involved. I would not pick another school. She loves to go to school and her progresses are unbelievable. This school is a gem!

Before my son enrolled in BF Day, we toured it, Stanford, McDonald and Greenlake. We decided on BF Day because it not only called itself The Family School it actually feels like it. The teachers are highly engaged in making the school a warm and inclusive place where children will develop a love of learning. And its working! I have a tremendous amount of respect for the teachers and the front office everyone seems very committee to making elementary school a great experience for the whole family.
The school is wonderfully diverse (something that is sorely lacking in many North Seattle Schools). And Im glad my child is learning about similarities and difference at a young age with his friends at school. One of my favorite things are the dragon dens where kids of all ages are put into small groups to do their work together. It has exposed my child to kids throughout the school so they can build friendships and learn to help one another learn. When I visit the school, there are kids of all ages who shout out friendly greetings to my son and I can tell my son likes them too. It warms my heart. Again, its The Family School!

Overall, slightly above average. The school was less than responsive in dealing with an ongoing Bullying issue my son experienced most of the school year. They also made a decision to remove his IEP status (4th Grade) & eligilibility for services, despite having one since Pre-K & well documented disabilities from providers & specialists.

We toured John Stanford, McDonald, Greenlake and B.F. Day. While all the schools had differing benefits, we were drawn to B.F. Day. Firstly, I didn't want my child taking science and math in an immersion language -- especially since my husband and I don't speak Japanese or Spanish. I was also turned off by aggressive fundraising at the other schools. The first thing I hear from the PTA president should not be information about when I can mail in my $1,000 check.

But B.F. Day just seemed fit like a perfect glove. The principal Mr. Jaskott is amazing. He's sharp, focused, and most importantly he is not afraid to make tough decisions for the benefit of the school. Under his watch, B.F. Day created a annual Science Fair, we have a new mascot, and we just celebrated our 125th year with a fabulous carnival. The school is on an upward trajectory.

Our kindergarten teacher is fabulous. My child did not begin the year reading, but he is reading now. He also loves math. He loves library day with the great librarian. He loves P.E. with Mr. Delaney who doubles as a professional playwright outside of school. The nurse, the counselor, the people who run the office -- all kindred spirits.

If I could capture the essense of B.F. Day clearly and concisely I would say this:

It is a school that shares a strong bond with the Fremont Arts community and this shows in art, music and performance. It is a school where parents and staff don't merely value academics -- but social justice and emotional well-being too. It's an extraordinary combination.

As an educator who has worked in many other schools in the district, I can honestly say that BF Day is a secret GEM! I have been thrilled with the experience my daughter, now in 2nd grade, has had thus far. She is thriving, happy, academically challenged, and most importantly feels a sense of community and belonging. It lives up to the "Family School" name - on each playground at schools parents get a "feeling" of whether THEY belong; at BF Day it just feels different-- warm, small town, and authentic, in the middle of our urban city. The teachers are beloved, rigorous and committed, and there is tradition and pride woven throughout the various events throughout the school year. I still can't believe how SMALL the population is-- where other schools are busting into portables and fighting for resources, BF Day is able to maintain a good ratio of resources per student (the Dragon Dens are a great example of this small population luxury). Highly recommend.

It is a privilege to be a part of the BF Day family. The teachers want to be there, the principal is committed and has a great vision for the school, and the family community is top notch. Our children have excelled there academically and socially, and we feel without question that they have been well-prepared for the next steps in life. Also it is a great campus and playground.

As an elementary school teacher, and as a parent of a student who attends B.F. Day, I couldn't be more pleased! I adore this school. I feel like BF Day meets the needs of my 1st grade kiddo holistically because ALL areas of academics are given importance. The kids have PE and Art every other day, monthly Music instruction (they make a school music cd!) and the after-school enrichment classes are awesome- legos, kickball, cooking, clay animation, drama, tennis- so many choices.

I live in Wallingford, so I felt sad to not have my kids in a school in my neighborhood- but it actually is because it's Wallingford, Fremont, Wallymont and Frelard's school! I love the parents, teachers, staff, and the Prinicpal is one of the sweetest, most hardworking principals I've ever met- he cares- they all do. With 300 kids- it really is like a private co-op school and you feel like family. A lot of the teachers also have kids that go there- they actually transferred them to B.F. Day-which says a lot.

We couldn't be more happy with our decision to go to our neighborhood school, B.F. Day!

When my kids are at school, I have total peace of mind. I know they are cared for, supported and nurtured. They want to go to school! They are learning so much, but not just academically, they are learning how to think critically, make good decisions, and be decent little people to each other, their surroundings, and themselves.

We choose to purchase our home in this neighborhood in large part because we wanted to be a BF Day family. We very much valued our kindergartener having a diverse student body at school and he enjoys that here. The student body fits within the lovely historic building (i.e. - no portables) with room to grow, a fantastic Boys & Girls Club is on site to make before/after care seamless, and leadership and teachers take great care to deeply know the needs of students and meet them where they are. I struggle to think of what more we could ask for in a elementary school environment - our student is pumped to go every morning.

Generally not a major issue at our small school as their is quite a bit of supervision in the "unstructured" portion of the day (recess and lunch) and the volume of kids is manageable. However on the occasion it comes up, the staff has been very proactive and committed to finding solutions and achieving resolution.

Our kids have been "typical" learners meaning they haven't needed special services. However the school has many kids who have tested into the APP or "highly capable cohort" and have chosen to stay. From speaking with these parents, the school has met these kids wherever at the level dictated by the students' progress. The school also has a highly developed special ed program with partial integration into the mainstream classroom for kids who qualify. This proves valuable for both the special ed kids and the "typical" learners in the mainstream classrooms.

Our principal is in his 3rd year at BF Day and I have been very impressed by his method of developing curriculum, developing leaders among the teachers and achieving consensus. The staff and principal have worked hard towards standardizing procedures between classes and across grade levels.

We've had 3 different teachers primary teachers as well as teachers for art and PE, so 5 in total. I would rate all of them as excellent. As a parent I've interacted with nearly all of the teachers at the school and have found each of them to be engaging and dedicated to the school. In speaking with parents of older children, that level of satisfaction extends to later years as well. I have no concerns going forward.

Like many other north seattle elementary schools, homework for early grades is no longer mandatory however teachers send home guides to help parents with homework curriculum if desired.

This is our 3rd year at BF Day and currently we have a kindy and 2nd grader attending. We were initially hesitant to send based on "ratings" and "scores". We looked at private and applied to option schools but ultimately chose this school for its excellent teachers, lovely community, stellar academics and incredible enrichment programs. Both of our boys are learning, growing, excelling, expanding socially and fully love this school. We often say that we can't imagine the teaching being better ANYWHERE else. The staff at this small school is dedicated to their own growth and the success of their students. They are receptive to feedback and as parents we have felt that our opinions matter. This is a community of socially aware, conscientious, and kind people and for this we are so very grateful. It is also a community of satisfied customers. The school yard parent talk at pick up and drop off is all about how the kids are doing, enrichment opportunities offered and ways to further engagement. it is a very positive vibe with little to no kvetching about teachers, staff, or missed opportunities. And while I personally know no different, I'm aware from friends and family elsewhere that this isn't always the case.
Additionally, our boys love the offered enrichment programs. At school they have learned chess, karate and improved their tennis and basketball skills. There are quite a number of factors that play into school "scores" and I won't go into them here but I will say that the quality of the school lives far beyond what an "average" number of stars on this site would suggest.

My daughter is in 5th grade and has 3 teachers -- science, math, and literacy (one of which is the homeroom teacher). All three of them are excellent. Active, involved, and caring.

Homework was given consistently at the beginning of the year, but it was not burdensome. My daughter is in 5th grade and could complete it usually within 10 - 20 mins. Then half-way through the school year it became less consistent.

The "score" here is very misleading. This is a very diverse school (unusually diverse in North Seattle) which I think is a good thing. My daughter is very advanced academically and has not in any way been held back by the presence of other kids with more challenges or from less stable homes. And she has thrived while being surrounded by students from all different backgrounds and different countries. Her teachers this year (5th grade) have been fantastic. And the Principal is thoughtful and proactive. I highly recommend this school.

From my 3rd grader, "Every day there are challenges that make you think. Some kids need extra help. Some kids are fast learners like me. Some kids are in the middle. The teachers help us learn at our own pace. My favorite things about B.F. Day are 'Village,' music with Mr. Erik, P.E. with Mr. Delaney, art with Ms. Pierce, math, reading, the playground, the garden, the Upper Upper field...just everything."

We've been at B F Day for the last 3 years, and I am so in love with this little school. My son has received such consistent and heartfelt support from every member of staff. When he struggled, they helped him get services to support his academic growth AND his personal growth. Whenever we have had issues, those issues have always been heard and addressed in a timely and serious fashion. There is an honest acceptance of differences and a celebration of diversity. These educators genuinely care for these children, and it shows in every interaction. Kids are encouraged to be a part of a community and support each other. A really wonderful environment. My son is moving on to middle school, but BF Day will always have a special place in my heart.

This is our daughter's second year at BF Day elementary and I am really blown away by the great community of families at the heart of the school. The classrooms have strong parental volunteer support, myself, my wife, and my mother all spend time in the classroom and enjoy seeing the students and teachers in action.

This is our second year at BF Day Elementary and we love this school! My daughter has had fabulous teachers, and the principal effectively pulls together staff, students, the families, PTA and the local community to form a cohesive and well rounded education for the students. The fact that students receive multiple lessons a week in PE and art along with a strong literacy and math instruction makes this teacher (Seattle Public School elementary teacher) and mom confident that BF Day will properly engage and prepare the children for middle school and beyond. The playground at the school is fabulous, and it never feels crowded unlike many SPS elementary playgrounds. We also use the on-site Boys and Girls club afterschool care and not only love it for the convenience, but also for its fabulous teachers who bring in music, history and sports in their daily plans. BF Day received the School of Distinction Award this year for its significant improvements. Sadly, the overall score on GreatSchools doesn't reflect this significant improvement in the school.

BF Day is a little school with a LOT of heart. The teachers are 100% committed and care deeply about both the social and mental development of our children. The PTSA and parent community is strong and welcoming and effective. I am proud to have my family as a part of the BF Day family.

Our daughter is in 2nd grade at B.F. Day, and for each of these three years, we've had the best elementary school teachers that we've experienced in Seattle Public Schools (we have two older kids who went to another nearby elementary school). This is a very kid and family focused school - there is of course a focus on academics, but I feel B.F. Day looks at every kid more holistically and works to meet their needs as a learner. The parents are strongly supportive of the school, but not in a pushy way. There is as much volunteering in the classrooms here as I've seen at any other school, but it often goes beyond that (parents offering their professional expertise in music, for example, and teaching an all-school curriculum). There are a lot of different kinds of people in our school community, and it is enriching. I know people always say that, but it's actually true here.

Beautiful old building (1892! but renovated), new playground (city grants arranged by the PTSA), and an adjacent park that we use for PE and special outdoor events. There is a lot of space for everything. Strong, experienced principal in his 2nd year at the school but with extensive experience in and out of Seattle. It's a good school, well worth visiting.

We have a mix of experienced teachers who have been at the school for a while, and several teachers that are new this year. We're only in 2nd grade, but the teachers we've had at B.F. Day have been excellent thus far - the best we've had in Seattle Public Schools (and we've been in two other elementary schools).

In at least the early grades, it's a weekly packet of varied worksheets. Kids can do the work when they like, provided they get it done by the following week. This reduces the nightly homework stress, and allows kids to keep going if they "get it" and want to do more.

Very strong sense of community in the "B.F. Day Way". Kids learn what is expected of them as students and as people at the school. Very nice how the principal and teachers blend this into everything at the school.

We have a great new principal, some wonderful new teachers (along with many strong veteran BF Day teachers) and a great classic building. In an overcrowded region of the district, our school still has space! The families are strong supporters of the school, our neighborhood, and each other.

BF Day is a wonderful elementary school, with administrators, teachers and families all concerned with one purpose: to give your child the best school experience possible. BF Day has undergone a considerable transformation in the past two years with the Seattle school boundary changes. Although there is still the old guard of Fremont folks and the diverse community that comes with that, there has been an influx of new families that has breathed new enthusiasm into the school community. Our experience was in kindergarten, and we cannot stress how wonderful our year was. Our child did not want the year to end. Her teacher has fostered a love of learning, respect for herself and others, and a sense of community. She had access to many programs including Art, Music, Computer lab, after school activities, great instruction. . .the list goes on. BF Day is a great neighborhood school that when they say that they're the "Family School", they really mean it.
