We have kids in kindergarten and 2nd grade at Maple and have really loved the school. Super involved teachers who are not just teaching to do well on testing, but really do want the kids to grow and learn. Great parents and lots of support throughout the school.
Surprisingly low class size for a big city public school. This school really embraces its diversity.

Maple has been a great community for our family. The teachers and staff care about our kids and have been wonderful through the challenges of the pandemic. In addition to the community, the school has access to Maple Wood Park to encourage outside time, morning walks, & after school play.

A classmate of my child has been bullied on multiple occassions by a student a few years older. The parent has been essentially dismissed by leadership, and there has been no consequences to the aggressor, nor have any steps been taken to make the victim feel safe and supported going forward. Leadership needs to reevaluate their approach here--identifying and remediating bias is necessary.

8/10 for us. We love our teachers. We're frustrated with how visible the lack of funding is, how chaotic and rushed lunch is (not to mention the poor quality of school food, and lack of choices), how bullying is dealt with, lack of a daily school nurse, but we love the teachers, and feel they are doing a wonderful job connecting with the children, and opening their minds to a holistic learning experience.

1st grade: teachers assign homework, but don't go to great lengths to hold kids accountable. At this age, it's probably appropriate. It will be interesting to see what happens in later grades.

Bother teachers we've had thus far are fantastic. Engaging, patient, and firm all at once. They welcome parent feedback, and encourage collaboration. They are open to alternative schools of thought, and offer a diversified approach to learning.

Leadership appears to do a good job of maintaining the status quo....not much change happens around Maple, other than the playground renovation that took place last summer (and was delayed into the beginning of the school year). Leadership is by no means awful, but could align more closely with the PTSA and take more measures to address some of the concerns brought forth.
