Community - that is how I would describe this school. It truly feels like we are all in this together doing our best to give the kids the education and childhood experince they deserve. The PTA is incredibly active and and provides the expected budget supplementation for a Tier 4 school. The teachers, many members of the Magnolia community or with children who have passed through the school, are incredible people with a passion for what they do. It blows my mind how long so many of them have been there. The icing on the cake is the principal, Patrick Gray, who is the steady hand that guides us. He deftly navigates the craziness that is SPS to ensure that he is setting the kids and teachers up for success. Finally, all of the staff is so wonderful. The place literally wouldnt run without them. We are so grateful to be zoned for Blaine!

Our child is happy as a sixth grader at Blaine.
There are a number of classes they rave about - including Choir and ELA - but I want to give particular recognition to the science teacher, Mr. Mead. He creates an exceptionally engaging and enjoyable experience for the students. In particular, he goes above and beyond with hands-on activities: having the class cook energy bars to reinforce the nutrition coursework, doing dry ice demonstrations to underscore states of matter, etc. It's really fun and our child comes home with great stories and excited to learn.
The relatively-new Principal, Mr. Gray, is a positive presence. He organized an informative and postive Curriculum Night for parents, seems to enforce rules in a sensible way, and has been kind and encouraging to our child and others.

We've loved our experience with Catharine Blaine so far. The teachers have been great. The school leadership is top notch. They've also taken a very good approach to dealing with COVID. Thanks for making this such a great experience my 6 & 7 year olds.

1st grader enjoying his time - there is a multitude of involved parents and staff that has a really good feel. It seems crazy old but has some charm and the Community center amenities and pre-k for our youngest is a great bonus.

My children are in Kindergarten and 2nd grade, we started our journey during COVID closures and my son's 1st grade online experience was outstanding. His teacher was incredible and far exceeded my expectations for communication and student support. The school leadership and teachers have done a phenomenal job leading and caring during turbulent times. My children are back in person and thriving socially and academically. The community and PTA support for the school is very strong, and I find that families are heavily engaged in supporting school programs and academics. I'm glad to be able to keep my children here until 8th grade.

We are new to the area. Very happy with our experience so far this year. Covid caused a lot of bumps for the Seattle school district.. but this school has dedicated staff that are working hard and making a kind, creative environment for the kids. Happy to see kids getting enrichment when needed.

Our two assistant principals are standout educators, who really make our school what it is. Our principal is less charismatic than some, but he empowers those APs to do great things, So it all works.

Bullying can get tough by middle school, but Id say we have very little to no issue with this. Any social disagreements are talk out.

99% positive. Overall I couldnt be happier to have my kids foundation be here in this engaged community. It is a safe environment for kids to grow. Academics are strong enough with most of our middle schooler getting algebra by 8th grade, all while developing a well rounded community member.

Really love the quality of the education and the strong community. A new principal and enhanced leadership capacity makes me even more excited about Blaine's future. The increasing global diversity in Magnolia (largely due to influx of tech workers) is a bonus as well.

There is almost never homework or at least very little and if this is a change, it wasn't communicated to parents.

Middle school has been hugely disappointing with regards to some teachers, problem solving and being equipped to manage young teens. Despite our efforts to communicate this with the school, there has been no change and frankly, seemingly no interest in change. Communication has been poor in our experience or selective.

I love Blaine its a way better school than McClure or Hamilton! I love it and my kids love it too!

I love Blaine elementary. What sticks out in my mind about Blaine is how the school helped my son when he was going through a difficult time. They really cared about his social development and happiness. Particularly, the guidance counselor worked with him throughout the year and provided support that I would never have expected from a public school (particularly given all the budget cuts). It was outstanding. Blaine is a great place for children to learn.

This school is the best school ever . Every day i walked in to school the princable was there greating every one with a smile . Altho I no longer go to this school my to best friends are still there they are now fith graders Abby and Olivia.This school will alwayes be my favorite school.

Despite living only a block away, we pulled our two youngest kids out of this school due to the behavior of teachers and administration. They were inflexible, autocratic, refused to communicate in any way other than e-mail (which we had told them was not a reliable way to contact us) and made changes to our son's education plan without our consent or knowledge. We eventually had to go through the courts to get any remedy. Home schooling is preferable to this place.
