John Sedgwick has done a phenomenal job of inclusion, academic and emotional support, through the transition of 5th to 6th grade students. For some, the transition from school to school can be difficult and they have taken their responsibilities as educators and caring adults to the next level for the kids. The current principal is always warm and understanding of the changing educational atmosphere and ensuring parents are well informed on why the school does things the way they do. My son was able to transition from Elementary School to Middle school without significant hiccups. The change from 1 teacher all day to block classes, periods, passing time, lockers and more student movement can be overwhelming for some. The adults and the 7th/8th graders do a great job in supporting their students and junior classmates in the transition to the new schedules. This school has been nothing but amazing so far and cannot wait for it to continue!

The teachers and other staff work great with the kids. Nothing but amazing. So many activities and electives available. Every time you call they are friendly and so helpful. The dances are so fun. They let parents be involved. They are here for the students.

I’m going with the old adage… If you don’t have anything nice to say, don’t say anything at all.

Only one teacher has homework online. Most of the time it isn’t updated daily.

They give the students time in class to work on their assignments. If the assignment is not completed during classtime it then becomes homework.

The teachers are excellent and work really well with their students. The school is moving to a "Block" system which keeps the students together for english and social studies which helps with the transition from Elementary to Middle school.

I have worked well with the teachers both as a bbn parents and as a substitute teacher at the school. I am very impressed with the organization and leadership and the use of AVID programs to promote good study skills and an environment of learning.

I believe the teachers are not always in line with the most up to date avenues in teaching techniques but for a public school that is STEAM oriented they are trying. But unless u are a involved parent. Watching your child's grades online (which some teachers didn't update quickly) the school cannot be as supportive. But if you get involved with the education aspect the school is improving at a higher rate than these reviews. Best bet is go to the school and meet the staff. Don't go by numbers on here. They are not always accurate. It also makes sure that only the top schools get more funding. The regular ones get left out but are just as good. We are happy at this school. Love the principal and most of the teachers are doing well.

Just happened to come across this website and decided to check out the reviews on my children's school. There are quite a few negative reviews that are a bit outdated. Here is a recent review to hang your hat on: We moved to Port Orchard in the middle of my son's 6th grade year at South Colby. We just moved from TX. He is on the smaller side for his age, and shy. The kind of kid that doesn't mind being left alone reading a book. In TX, he struggled with making friends, and was even bullied by some of the bigger kids. He blossomed at South Colby thanks to the friendly staff and students. In going to JSJH, he was nervous that he would be bullied by the 8th and 9th graders. Instead, he's become a social butterfly, and is stepping out of his comfort zone...in a good way. The classwork is challenging, but he's stepped up to meet that challenge and is striving for excellence, without us having to force it on him. My son plays football there as well, and the Coaches do a great job of encouraging the players and reminding them that they are students first. Overall, this is one of the best schools we have been a part of. Having served in the Navy, we have been to alot of them!

I'm in the 8th grade at John Sedgwick, and I think this school is awesome. The only reason that people would complain is if they're the students are the ones that talk back to teachers, don't care enough to do their work or pay attention and really need to learn the meaning of respect. The teachers are amazing, and the classes are fun and challenging for me as a learner. Many people think this school is great, like my friend who goes to Cedar, is constantly bullied and the school refuses to do anything about it. Her mom and herself know that Sedgwick has no tolerance for bullying, so they are seriously considering switching schools. I would recemmend this school to anyone who wants to succeed amd learn and make friends.
