This is a great school, but I have deep concern that a dangerous person is working as a substitute art teacher there. When I voiced my concerns, they said they would look into it. When I followed up with what appropriate steps they had taken, they gave me the most vague answer in the world. Not sure how much I would trust them if they did, in fact, allow this individual to work at their school

Seabury has been wonderful experience for my son since he started halfway through his kindergarten year. I really love that class sizes are small and grades are mixed; teachers have the resources to look at the development path for each and every student on many levels including academic, personal growth, social/emotional, and relationally. As a gifted student, this has been a wonderful way for my son to stay engaged in courses that he excels at like math and reading while also growing socially with like-aged classmates. Specialists have included music/performing arts, art class/makerspace, Spanish and library. The curriculum is project-based and themed for the whole school. They have whole-school participation activities, like "art-cade" (where students make arcade games out of cardboard/home materials), regular school gatherings, and science fair projects.

My child has been enrolled at Seabury since pre-K, now nearly finished with the lower school. Their time at Seabury has been filled with interesting projects, teachers who have really cared for them, and peers who are similarly excited about learning. While it is definitely not the right place for every student, it is a great home for motivated learners who want to be surrounded by the same.

We have a child who has been at Seabury for the last three years. Their growth from a quiet and reserved learner to a confident and engaged participant has been wonderful to witness and observe. The teachers have all been kind and gracious to my student. I have seen other teachers who have been tenured, come and go, but the new staff has done a wonderful job embracing the spirit of the school and it's future. I believe change is good - and it has benefited our student tremendously. While the physical school space isn't large, the team has done a good job in helping fill it's classrooms with delight and surprise. It's what attracted us to school in the first place - it cares about the kids, not the aesthetics of the nicely mowed lawns or flower-filled pots of some of the other schools and for that I appreciate it.

Students at Seabury are excited about the books they are reading, neat facts they have learned, and the questions they ask. They are encouraged to think critically and learn skills to pursue independent learning. They work together, learn to advocate for their needs, and benefit from small class sizes.

My two daughters attended Seabury from pre-K through eighth grade, with the most recent graduating in the spring of 2019. Since then, I have served on the Board of Trustees for the school. In my estimation, the experience that this institution offers to highly capable students cannot be matched elsewhere in the lower Puget Sound area. It is both a nurturing environment and a place that critically challenges the curious. My girls loved this school - their classmates, the teachers, the approach, the school as a whole. I firmly believe that their current experiences at UC Davis and UC Berkeley would not have been possible without this school.

I cannot recommend it highly enough.

I am a parent of two children who attended Seabury starting in Kindergarten through middle school. I don't know what I would have done if Seabury had not been an option. My son's preschool teacher tried to tell me about Seabury, but I was convinced that he would be fine in public school. I was wrong, and he was miserable. He was already reading, totally bored and starting to hate school. By October, I was desperate and called Seabury. He went for a day visit and that was it. He came home a different kid, excited and chattering about what they had been doing. I finally felt like someone understood him. We spend many happy years there and I just wish they had a high school.

Seabury offers so much for my middle school student. I've seen my child grow in their confidence as an independent thinker and learner. My child loves going to middle school each day and is excited to learn and engage with peers and teachers in their middle school journey. At any given time during the school year, students at the middle school work on projects with their peers. I've seen this project-based learning approach expand my child's ability to work through challenges and negotiate with their peers effectively, in addition to being a great approach to learning about a topic or subject! The middle school is unique in that it provides an immersive learning environment in downtown Tacoma where students can engage with the community beyond the classroom. I am so glad Seabury is here as a middle school in our community as it offers a unique place for gifted learners to flourish within a supportive and skilled community. of teachers and staff.

Seabury is a unique small school specializing in Gifted/Highly Capable education. My son started Seabury in Kindergarten and I know he would not be as confident and comfortable at any other school. He is in a place that allows him to be truly himself and to let the best parts of him shine. He has a supportive teacher and staff that know him and genuinely care about his well-being. He loves attending art class and is so fortunate to be at a school that actually offers that specialist to all students multiple times a week. The school is more like a family then a school. The staff know the kids in a very personal and caring way. Staff all seem to be invested in the success of the students.

Seabury School is a great place for kids to learn at their own pace. I have two kiddos who have been enrolled since pre-K and they have both been encouraged and supported in the direction of their aptitude. We have found the faculty and staff to be very accessible. Not sure what another reviewer was referring to - there are extensive safety protocols with fire, earthquake and active shooter drills done appropriately. Discipline issues I have seen have been handled appropriately as well.

The faculty and administration has been very much open to recommendations about cultural education. I honestly can't imagine sending my kiddos to someone else.

My child attended Seabury Lower School from Pre-K to 2nd grade. We absolutely loved Seabury in past school years. Unfortunately, this year has been different because of the conflicts of interest between the school board and head of school. There are no checks and balances between the two so the school is ran without considering safety concerns from students or families. We felt it necessary to withdraw midyear 2022/2023 for safety concerns.
It would be prudent for any family who is considering enrolling their child at Seabury to know the following:
1. What is the anti-bullying policy? How does it compare to nearby private/public schools?
2. Are there detailed emergency drills and planned dates they are performed?
a. Lockdown; Does the local police department participate in order to assess gaps?
b. Shelter-in-place
c. Evacuation
d. Earthquake
3. Is there an alarm system (loud bell) that can be initiated which alert teachers/children? How are parents alerted?
Proceed with caution if you receive vague responses.
Pros:
Teachers who taught my child were excellent and extremely caring
Fantastic library
Specialist classes including Arts, Spanish, Performing Arts and Library
Cons:
Cost is similar to other private schools marketed towards gifted/2E children but without swimming and student council programs.
Bus service is inconsistent; issues with the bus breaking down. Fortunately, aftercare would be free on those days.

My children have thrived at Seabury School. The admin & faculty understand the complexity of gifted kids and offer an academic program tailored to each child. Kids are placed in appropriate academic groups for subjects & interact across grade levels. Seabury excels in addressing the social and emotional challenges of intense, passionate gifted kids & is phenomenal in working with the 2E population. The culture at Seabury is unique in that kids come from all over the Puget sound area and parental involvement is strong. When a child has a birthday party, everyone shows up and parents get to know each other! When there are class parties and school events, there is tremendous parental support. Covid put a damper on extracurriculars but generally the lower school has performances, art shows & an incredible science fair. Kids are encouraged to participate in outside academic and artistic competitions and are recognized for their efforts. The Bridges program in 5th helps the kids transition to greater independence with an eye on middle school. The middle school is excellent in that its small (<50) and intimate. Kids will find friends and class discussions are remarkable for the diversity and respect of opinions- a true gift for the intellectual kid. 8th grade culminates in capstone projects and presentations- amazing as it seems no 2 are ever alike. No school will meet every single need for every kid- parents should be prepared to possibly supplement in the kids area of interest, strength or weakness. Overall, one can expect a Seabury kid to find friends, to have memorable parties, enjoy engaging, productive school days, and parents can expect a partnership with admin & faculty. If you have a gifted, intense, passionate, quirky, non conformist, creative, kid who is either introverted or extroverted, neurotypical or diverse, Seabury could be the school you have been seeking for your kid.

My daughter absolutely loves going to Seabury. She has made great friends and for the most part enjoys her classroom experiences. I have seen her confidence soar and her personality come back to life since being back in a happy school environment. I'm grateful we found this school and that she was accepted.

We are grateful every day that we found Seabury for our daughter. Seabury really focuses on the whole child and the social-emotional learning that goes on there is incredible. The second-grade teacher is phenomenal and she really "gets" our daughter and what makes her tick. She is great at finding ways to get the students to feel connected to what they`re learning, while actually enjoying it. The school is great with their communication and everyone we`ve interacted with is fantastic.

Seabury is one of the very few schools in our area that can accommodate children with unique gifts and talents. Small class sizes, individualized approach to education, a wide variety of activities and learning methods, and most importantly, strict safety policies during a pandemic made this school our first choice for Pre-K and Kindergarten years and we've been very happy with the Seabury School.

There are many reasons why we are glad to have our child at Seabury, some of the most important ones for us are:
- Opportunity to socialize in a safe environment, where the school staff is able to teach kindness and compassion
- Teachers recognizing gifts and areas of improvement for our child, and nourishing those in a way that gives the child a solid baseline and ability to grow in their gifts
- School staff is very good at communicating issues and praises promptly
- A wide variety of arts, crafts and other making activities on a regular basis

Pandemic brought on many additional challenges, but the leadership at this school has been on top of making necessary adjustments to continue providing high quality education even to the youngest of kids.

This review is about middle school.

Seabury is the school we chose for our child after 1.5 years of public online schooling due to the pandemic. Seabury is small (35 middle schoolers total plus several staff in a building), has very solid COVID safety protocols, and ask all students and staff for vaccination. They communicate well too about whats going on. Although Im not sure the percentage of vaccination, so far no school outbreaks.

My child immediately made a few good friends and finally started to be academically challenged! Thats a great news for us. They group students by their abilities for some subjects like math. So a 6th grader CAN skip 6-8th grade and do geometry if thats where the student is at.

All the adults are nice too. Ive met some of them although its challenging due to the pandemic.

The seabury school is what it is because of the students. Collaborative, intellectual, kind, and engaging, the community truly is like no other. Teachers genuinely care about both each other and the school, and that attitude leads to a community that isnt just in school from 8:15-3:15 and then gone, but one that keeps the building lively at all hours. The school is truly an incredible place.

Such a great experience to be in the Seabury community. Dedicated teachers and sincere staff who really care about children. Parents are also welcoming to be part of this community, no-feeling of left behind at all. My kid is enjoying going to school every day, he even wants to go Saturdays! The school is encouraging his love of learning and that mission has been successful. I cannot thank enough for our great teachers and this wonderful community!

My children have been at Seabury for 9 total years and I highly recommend it. Truth: private schools cost money, while public schools don't. It's tempting to think that a highly capable student will simply do their best in a public school, but I have seen that a well-rated public high school does not even come close to engaging my older son. It is my opinion that one of the worst things that can happen to a bright child is for them to learn to disengage from learning; for them to think that school is boring and that they can coast.
I wish Seabury went through high school. All kids want to learn, and Seabury makes learning engaging. Because they have small class sizes, the wonderful teachers recognize if a child is struggling in an area or two, then problem solve with the child to determine what they both need to do to remedy the situation. They give students the tools they can use to advocate for themselves and better learn throughout school, wherever they are.
The curriculum uses real-world examples to tie subjects together, and facilitates 'bigger picture' learning and problem solving. The result is that a student going into high school has better focus, maturity of thought, and takes more responsibility for his education in and out of the classroom. That is priceless to me.
Yes, my friends with kids in public school have newer cars, and take more vacations, but my sons are well-behaved, self-confident, and enjoy learning. I am confident they have learned skills that will bring them success in whatever fields they choose to go into, making them happier adults. I wouldn't trade that for anything.

My son gets smarter every day at this school. His love of big words and big concepts is celebrated, not tolerated (like it would be at any other school). I get a weekly email AND note from the teacher and a weekly email from the school. They go on a field trip every month! But perhaps the best thing about Seabury is the student body. My son's classmates are KIND and they are smart and they are funny and they are inquisitive. He comes home from school smiling every day. Not once has he ever said anything but that he LOVES school and he can't wait to go learn! Seriously I would sell my kidney if I had to to keep him enrolled at Seabury.

Every school has students who are figuring out how to function in social settings. The students seem to moderate bully like behavior, which is amazing to see. The staff intervenes when necessary but as a whole, the students themselves are caring and protective of each other and seem to stand up for one another.

My child has attended Seabury for three years. The teachers and staff are amazing! Seabury meets my child where they are at, for example, working 2-3 grade levels ahead in reading but typical or behind a grade level in writing and spelling. They offer a vast amount of parent support within the community as well as many outreach programs. My child is among peers and has formed friendships with other students that I never anticipated. The student body is incredibly compassionate and caring of one another and they are learning real time skills of what they can do, right now, to help their community.

We have finally found a place where our daughter is thriving! Seabury let's her be an 8 year old while providing her with the academic challenges she is able/ready to handle. She comes home learning something new everyday and is excited about school. Seabury also teaches her that she can make a difference today not just when she is an adult and she has taken that to heart. This year she is leading a service project at school to help collect toys and clothes for families in need. K & B

My daughter has attended Seabury School for many years. We are absolutely thrilled with the education she receives, but even more so, we are thrilled with the love of learning that is fostered at the school. The small class sizes allow the teachers to cater the lesson plans to the individual needs in the classroom. The teachers have a unique ability to challenge students in areas where they are high achievers, while supporting and encouraging other areas. The students also support one another, and consider themselves to be a part of a family.

Our son is in his second year at Seabury Middle School. We love their approach to learning. They are constantly out in the community and surrounding areas, interacting with people and experiencing the places that will be an integral part of their young adult lives. Discussions are often done in a dynamic group format, not just individualized learning. The class size is small, and the teachers are fantastic. Most importantly, our son loves learning again, something he lost for a time in public school. We know his potential will again be challenged.

All three of my children attended The Seabury School, and I can't imagine a better environment for the nurture and development of highly capable children. The school recognizes that gifted children are special-needs children whose ability to learn far outpaces their physical and social development. Seabury provides a stimulating, caring and nurturing environment, and I believe my children and I have a lifelong obligation to support this fine institution.

I attended Seabury School for seven years and can't imagine my life had I been anywhere else. Seabury gave me the strong foundation I needed, including a solid grasp of "the basics," before going on to high school and college. Seabury accelerated me enough that I was grades ahead of my age peers by the time I left school, propelling me into all honors and AP classes as well as getting me a full ride scholarship to a university. As my dad always tells me, I have a lifelong debt to Seabury School, and hope to remain connected to the students and staff for the rest of my life.

My daughter attended for several years. The teachers vary in quality. Some were wonderful. Some, quite frankly, were not. It's a tiny school. There is no choice regarding which teacher your child receives. There were students with severe behavior problems that the school seemed ill equipped to handle. Lots of focus on experience. Very little focus on mainstream education.
