Excellent special needs school! Our son has a mild intellectual disability and has been thriving at NHS. The staff is very supportive and provides a lot of personal attention to the students. The “vibe” from the students and staff is always very positive. They spend a lot of effort on getting students prepared for life after graduation.

They have systems in place to monitor and deal with bullying and other issues.

New Horizon has been the perfect match for our son- an unquestionable 5 stars! We have significant experience in the public school system and with a different private school. New Horizon clearly sets the bar when it comes to keeping the needs of our son first, always. At prior schools we (and our son's therapist) spent significant time (and $) creating systems for our son and then trying to "sell" the school on using them. It was a constant battle, and a stressful situation all around. We found ourselves continually having to reassure these other schools/teachers that it would be ok, that our son had potential, had capability, that he was worthy of the effort. From the very beginning, New Horizon was reassuring us that everything would be ok, that our son would learn, that he had great potential! They had all the systems we were trying to implement at other schools already in place! He's currently finishing up his second year at New Horizon and things couldn't be better. His teachers are invested and committed in his future. School administrators are proactive and amazingly experienced. Our son continues to make great strides (academically and socially) and loves his school. Just when we thought it couldn't get any better, COVID happened and it became immediately clear New Horizon was setting the bar once again. Our other (typically developing) son is in local public school and it's been a real challenge moving to an online learning program. Not so with New Horizon. They've been very organized in developing and supporting online learning. Our son is no where near as independent as our son who attends public school, yet the transition has been far more successful. He doesn't seem to have missed a beat in his learning progress and his ability to complete work independently may have actually accelerated! While it's difficult to say what the future holds for our son, we are certain New Horizon has already made an invaluable difference in our son's life!

Excellent school. This school not only supports our son, but my husband and me as well. The leadership at this school is intuitive and caring, the teachers are all fantastic, and the support staff is kind and compassionate. Our son's social and academic struggles are effectively handled and he is encouraged to be the best version of himself. I feel his teachers genuinely care about him and his future. SO BLESSED to have found this school. Can't imagine what our son would be like if he didn't attend NHS. This school is a gift to the entire community and surrounding areas.

I'm a parent of a young lady who attended NHS 6-12 grade. This school does little to motivate students who are not "super stars". Students who appear to have a bright future are given more attention and caring than students who are identified as struggling. During career cruising my daughter was told she could not do many jobs because of "this or that" There is a way to tell a student they should explore other options rather than tell them directly that they can't do something. This school did nothing to help build my daughter up, rather it tore her down. Very high tuition for what you get.

We really like New Horizon School. Our son recently started here and he is happier, more confident, and becoming more independent. We hear positive comments about him whenever we interact with the office staff. Everyone here has a commitment to children who are unique learners and we are very pleased.

Our family and especially our son have been extremely fortunate to have found New Horizon School. Up until 4 years ago, our son was able to attend public school. When he entered high school, the dynamic challenges that he faced were just too much for him to deal with and we quickly realized how lost and scared he was. We reached out to New Horizon School for help. Our son is now surrounded by caring and supportive people that have helped him see his world very differently. They have provided him opportunities to discover his voice and that his opinions & choices make a difference not only in his life but in the lives of others. New Horizon School works very hard to challenge him to be the best he can be while showing him an abundance of patience, kindness & respect at those times when he is struggling. Thank you New Horizon School for all you have done for our son & our family.

I am so happy that we found this school. Our son isn't enrolled yet, but we hope he will be soon. He's elementary age, struggles with academics, and has sensory processing and other special needs due to his disability. We enjoyed our tour of New Horizon School and our son was so happy during his visit. Their program is fantastic, and we know he will get the right kind of instruction so that he can learn. The classrooms are small and he liked being with other children with similar special needs. They assessed his academic and social needs while he was there, and really understood him. We have asked our school district to contract with New Horizon to place our son there for his special education services, and we hope that will happen soon. It can't happen soon enough for us!

My 6th grade grandson started at this New Horizon school 4 months ago due to his severe learning disability, anxiety disorder and autism spectrum diagnosis. The public school system had nothing to offer, in fact was causing much more anxiety. (Even in the Special Ed program.) I am so impressed with New Horizon School and the wonderful teachers and staff and the safe environment they've created. Everyone can feel it the moment they walk in. The small class size is just what he needs. He is so happy and such a different kid everyday and has even started a making friends, socializing and staying for an 'after school class' one day a week which is led by one of the teachers. This school knows what they're doing. I'm so grateful we found this New Horizon School, for kids like him with learning differences. He will continue to grow and to enjoy learning again now that he's here.

In her previous schools, my daughter never felt a part of the group. She always stood alone, afraid to join in, and never invited. At New Horizon School, other students welcomed and invited her to join in. For the first few weeks, she kept "expecting" to be bullied as she had been in other schools. Slowly she learned that no one would bully her, because "that's just not the way we do things" (another student's words to her). I love that as a parent I can come in through the main office anytime, and everyone knows my name, my family, and my daughter. I don't have to try to hurry out of the office, because everyone at the school knows exactly what our family is going through. "It's what we do here" - (Office staff member's words to me). We were always afraid that with her low social skills, she would continue to be victimized as she had been in other schools. We used to dread the future, wondering how all of the past traumatic events in previous schools would affect her; but now I look forward to watching her gain autonomy, have the confidence to volunteer in the community, and see herself as someone who matters in the world.

My son, currently a 10th grader, attends this school. He has Aspergers, Tourette, and ADHD. The teachers are very skilled at giving him feedback, reminding him to see others points of view, giving him structure, and helping him to be more organized and engaged. He feels accepted and really enjoys the small class sizes. He also participates in activities and is willing to try more things, which he would not do in the larger, public high school.

My child has been attending this school for a few months now. Even in a short time he is a different child. He was always so stressed being in an inappropriate public setting and would have nightmares about school. Now he is happy every day to go to school. This school is excellent.

New Horizon School is such a wonderful learning environment for special education students. Small classes, excellent teachers, and many social activities. My son is in small classes where he can get the help he needs. Most of his teachers have been working with special education students for many years, and they know what they are doing! His math, reading, and writing skills have all increased. Best of all, he is making friends and wants to go to school every day! I rate New Horizon School as "Excellent".

New Horizon School is an excellent choice for any child who is unable to maximize learning in a public school due to learning challenges of any type or from bullying. The latter was the main reason we had to take our child from Seattle Public Schools. The caring teachers and curriculum chosen for each child make this school a safe place, where problems like autism, ADHD and OCD are the norm, where children learn to cope with their own issues and tolerate differences in others. Most importantly, they learn! He is thriving in that environment.

What a fabulous school. Long time teachers with creative ideas. Teachers employ best practices and universal design in their instruction. With the right amount of challenge, students thrive and are learning rather than falling further behind and being overwhelmed. There are ample social opportunities in clubs, dances, and sports. The elementary program is preparing for their new big toy in the spring. The class sizes are small so that teachers really learn about their students and students learn how to learn. As for the high school students, students go on to college, 18-21 programs/services and employment. Success for all! It is a collaborative approach with families.

This school is wonderful! My son who is diagnosed with ADD is thriving at New Horizons after years of struggling and feeling like a failure at his former school. He was crying almost daily because of teasing and his teachers were extremely critical even putting down in front of other students. He was failing classes and falling farther behind every year and was completely overwhelmed. I knew I needed to find an alternative to public school and my search brought me to New Horizon. This school has been a godsend for my son. He was welcomed right where he was academically and made to feel like he was okay just the way he is. The teachers at New Horizon are highly qualified professionals that immediately identified my son s strengths and where he needed the most support. The teachers are compassionate and are infinitely patient with my son. He feels free to be himself and his attitude, self-esteem and confidence has improved a difference everyone who knows him has notices. If you have a child with learning challenges there is no better school than New Horizon.

My son attended this school several years ago. He was failing in public school and had given up completely. My sister-in-law noticed this school when she drove by it and mentioned it to me. I knew as soon as we walked in the front door that we had found a "home" school for him. Thank you so much to New Horizon. He never would have made it without you.

New Horizon School's mission is, "Where children come first!" NHS serves a variety of students through specialized instruction. Students who may not otherwise be able to participate in extracurricular activities, in field trips, or have a choice in electives are given these opportunities at NHS. Current students talk about how much they love the safe, caring, and bully-free environment. Students also express how much they love the one-on-one time they're able to receive from their teachers due to small class size, and love the opportunities for social growth. Teachers love the ability to collaborate with one another to to figure out how to best help students. Overall, NHS is a school for students with learning differences that offers a small, safe, and collaborative environment where students can learn.

Great place for children with learning differences to explore and thrive in their individual learning styles. Helpful teachers, low teacher to student ratio, and numerous student lead ASB activities gives the feel of a larger welcoming education community. Their mission states this is a place where students come first and it's definitely apparent in the effort and caring attitude of their office personnel and staff.

New Horizon School is a small private school which serves students with ADHD, learning disabilities, Autism Spectrum Disorder, executive function disorders and other learning challenges. Small class sizes allow teachers to know and understand how an individual thinks and learns as well as their interests, concerns, goals, hopes and dreams. For many students, New Horizon is the first school where they have felt safe, accepted and like they fit in. As a result of specialized instruction and an atmosphere of mutual trust, students feel free to take risks and explore the opportunity to participate in art, music, extra curricular teams and activities that may lead them to discover a hidden talent or a career interest. Students graduate from New Horizon School with a sense of self-worth developed through hard work and perseverance and a deeper understanding of their own abilities. Working with the dedicated teachers and staff at New Horizon and watching students grow into successful adults has been an honor and a privilege that I will always be grateful for.

Note from Me to the school administrator during the difficult waiting period hoping for positive response from district & appropriate placement for our son--- Summer 2012: Dear __________, How am I supposed to focus on my work when you send me this wonderful stuff??? Very hard to see my computer screen with tears in my eyes. What is especially proving with his entire experience with you (All @HNS) is the drastic improvement he has shown in such a short time. What is even more remarkable is the change at home..noticed by family, neighbors, and family friends. He can feel it and talks about it too. He talks about the difficulty he has with certain aspects of the day, however, finishes the conversation with how he NEEDS to keep trying and work through it because he can "feel he is stronger inside from it just like when i feel my pipes are ripped [muscles] after hitting the heavy bag after a great workout & a long time." Will find a way... he is absolutely meant to continue NHS. AC ps.- He reads the newspaper now....last time he did that was during his few days in March. Hmmm go figure.

New Horizon School is a fantastic option for students who struggle in typical public school experiences. The small class sizes ensure that every student gets the attention that he or she needs to be successful. Curriculum is student-driven providing engaging and relevant subject matter. And most importantly, New Horizon teaches the whole student. Students social and emotional wellbeing are paramount. The focus is not merely on academics alone, but on creating prosperous, independent young people who will be able to interact with and contribute to society as a whole.

We were very impressed from day 1 with New Horizon School. Our daughter struggles with the fast pace and impersonal classrooms of traditional public school. Here I feel like we are the most important people in the world.

Our son needs understanding teachers who know well the challenges of ADHD and executive function disorder and a learning environment to be himself without constantly stressing about being called out by peers and educators for things he's learning to control. He is a much happier and successful student learning at New Horizon School. We are so thankful we found them.

My son has changed from an anxious, behaviorally volatile, disinterested and academically failing teen to an engaged learner with excelling marks, post high school plans and student leadership skills. The teachers are excited, motivativating, exceptionally patient and uniquely able to engage challenging young learners individually in ways that help each student grow socially as well as academically. And they make it fun while maintaining an atmosphere that engenders respect for everyone. Having language, social skills and psychological counseling available on site during the school day and having these professionals working with the school staff has been a terrific benefit as well. We tried several different public school programs, with IEPs we helped write as very involved parents, but my son became so much happier and life got so much easier after he started at NHS! It is the right size with the right schedule and good class offerings for students with learning differences and/or mild to moderate neuropsychological issues.

New Horizon is a wonderful school! They provided my bright and capable daughter who was not able to "fit in" and be successful at a traditional school with a nuturing and challenging place to learn. By fully addressing her emotional, social, and academic needs, New Horizon provided her with a great education which has allowed her to successfully transition to life after high school, including a job and college.
