TOPS is a good school, there is a really great band and orchestra program. Also middle school science is really cool the students do actual experiments and they learn a lot. Also there is a Deaf/Hard of Hearing program.

We recently made the switch from a private school to TOPS K8, and we couldn't be happier with our decision. The amenities here are on par with those of the local private schools, but without the hefty price tag. Additionally, the student diversity at TOPS K8 is far greater, which has enriched our children's learning experience.

Our kids have had the opportunity to learn sign language, play the recorder, and participate in after-school sports. The PTA (Site Council) is incredibly active and involved, ensuring that the school community thrives. One of the standout features of TOPS K8 is the strong emphasis on social justice, which is championed by all the wonderful teachers.

We are so happy we found TOPS K8 and highly recommend it to other families!

The social justice and equity focus is carried throughout the school. They would benefit from more consistent focus on character building and good friend skills among the student body

It’s great to see the principals’ children in class at her school. There is support and cooperation among leadership. Their focus is the kids, not necessarily appeasing the parents but they do give more attention when parents show their needs and support.

Great with hearing impaired and a few other learning difference but not all...

It still happens. This goes back to focusing on the character of their students - this is an area of opportunity for TOPS

Ranging from excellent to pretty good to just ok across my multiple children. Overall we are very happy - great community, caring and helpful staff and amazing opportunities in art, band, orchestra, PE and within the amazing library. The after school program is incredibly rich and very well run. The facility is stunning and some teachers are truly excellent - every student looking for a supportive adult / mentor will definitely find one within this team.

Homework is grade appropriate and relevant. It’s often assigned to be completed over the course of a few days so gives flexibility and also teach time management skills.

There’s so much variability in students and teachers that no one fit is great for everyone but overall there is a good level of passion and care and drive among the teachers

This school is great! The teachers are really cool and the kids there are really nice. They also help a lot of kids with disabilities.

Mr Lawrence especially and Marianne Clarke are the teachers the parents say are great.... Our experience is they are not great. There is a lot of bullying. There is zero attention to teaching kids how to be successful. Mr Lawrence is a bully and runs his classroom in same manner. It is no wonder that the kids are able to be the meanest during his classroom time. The staff turnover, the principal turnover.... The lack of a clear philosophy, the fact that teacher morale is at an all time low... The only thing this school has going for it are a few good extracurricular teachers and the parent community who seem to still want the school to be good.

homework is not proven to help kids-- kids should be taught in school and maybe given projects that improve at home

the homework is just bs and shows how much they are actually not taught in school

the principle is a terrible person and has no place to be around famiies. i tried to talk to him about my son's anxiety and he didn't give me a chance to talk.

A pretty good school overall. My complaints against TOPS have mostly to do with the inability to fire teachers that are burnt out or simply not there for the students. A certain teacher played favorites with students doing well in his class and refused to help struggling students. Spent way too much time on cars.com during the school day when he could have been helping the students he is being paid to teach. My daughter struggled in math until she entered high school (Garfield). Once she had someone who took the time to explain the lesson well, she took off. Meanwhile this teacher still teaches at TOPS. I still hear parents complaining.

We felt like we won the lottery when we got into TOPS, and we did. At TOPS we've found dedicated and talented teachers and staff and a wonderful diverse community that supports our children. There is high parent involvement and the kids are together from kindergarten through 8th grade so everyone really becomes a family, and invested in each other's success. It's a special place, we feel very lucky.
