The test scores at this school have been consistently low and not improving much over several years. Concentrate more on getting basic skills taught, how else are you going to achieve equity?

We have had an amazing experience in the kindergarten cohort at South Shore this year. The teachers work together to create a wonderful learning environment with a strong focus on equity and social justice as well as a solid foundation of social-emotional learning. The core academic curriculum is great too- my daughter is learning solid reading and math fundamentals and has had the opportunity to participate in additional enrichment programs, such as coding (age appropriate of course). We've been thrilled about her entrance to kindergarten and I can't speak highly enough about this program-we love South Shore!

For any parents considering South Shore PreK-8 (which is no longer called "The New School" by the way), please keep in mind that any reviews written prior to 2018 refer to previous administrations. While there have been challenges with leadership turnover in the past, the current principle is committed to South Shore. I would invite prospective parents to visit the school and email the PTSA to learn about whether South Shore might be the right choice for you and your child. southshoreptsa@gmail.com

Great...we are new to the area and found the school very welcoming. My children are in the lower grades so I can only speak for that portion but I feel they are learning, being challenged as well as learning to be part of a multi cultural community

This school had potential but is grossly missing the mark. I have 2 children currently enrolled and one who graduated from Southshore 3 years ago, and boy, has this school changed in those 3 years! My biggest complaints are the inconsistency in the teaching from year to year, emotionally uninvolved staff and terrible communication and correspondence from school leadership staff and teachers as well. Simply put, the kids are NOT learning at this school anymore and having such a high level of teacher turnover each year doesn't help. There are no tutors and no investment in the children here. Each week I contemplate removing my kids from this school.

I think some try but their methods aren't effective.

High teacher turnover each year. inconsistent teacher involvement.

No examples of how the work should be done. especially math.

I have a hard time believing all of these positive reviews. I know many families in my neighborhood that have removed their kids from this school due to bullying - by both kids and adults. The principal has zero social skills and is very condescending to say the least. The test scores are low and the school blames the "underprivileged" children for this. I transferred my son to a school with a similar population and that school is thriving as is my son. He is above grade level now and while at South Shore, the principal had suggested that he had a learning disability! Steer clear of this school, at least until they get a new admin.

My son has only been attending South Shore for 2 weeks, and already we both love this school! His teacher called me to set up an in-person get to know you interview about 2 hours after he was presented to her classroom as a new student, and we've heard nothing but good things every since. As a parent I am also feeling supported with active involvement by the principal, teachers, and PTSA to support the school with various programs.

This school really changed my life. I have attended South Shore since Pre-K, and now I am going to start 8th grade. The best thing about the school is it's small grade size. The average is probably 80 to 90 students in a grade. The teachers take time to connect with the students and really try to help them reach their fullest potential. South Shore is one of the best schools in the state with the high test scores and the best thing about it right now is the new building!

Great teachers. Amazing parental involvement. Beautiful new building. The New School Foundation helps with so many things - pre-school, low teacher/student ratio, art, music etc. . . Crossing my fingers that we have a good principal. This is her firs year with us.
