My childs experience at heatherwood this year has been awful. He has experienced bullying, witnessed serious assaults, kids doing drugs/vaping in the bathrooms, and more. All of which has been completely dismissed by administration. Last week he was pushed into a wall and broke his collar bone the women in the office said he was exaggerating and fine. Luckily, he called me because they werent going to. When he returned to school they asked him if we were going to sue. The education isnt worth these struggles either. Too many of the teachers are disengaged and the kids spend far too much class time on YouTube. We wont be returning next year.

Our son had an IEP and this school was so incredibly accommodating. He entered High School with only 2 classes that were deemed Special Ed and hes keeping up with his peers in all the other subjects. Straight As and Bs. His confidence grew the most during his years at Heatherwood. My daughter also went here and she excelled incredibly well. Neither ever experienced bullying either, which was a welcome relief, as we feared the worst with Middle School.

Our experience with this school was very disappointing. The staff, including teachers, administrators, and front office personnel, often lacked compassion and understanding. Bullying was a recurring issue, and despite multiple reports and follow-ups, little action was taken to address it effectively.
Additionally, there was a clear lack of training and sensitivity toward students with special needs. No child should ever be publicly embarrassed or disciplined for challenges beyond their control.
Transferring my child is the best decision I made. He is now in an environment where he feels supported, respected, and encouraged

My son is thriving at this middle school. He is able to take advanced classes and learn new information quickly with the guidance of leadership. The teachers truly seem to care about the students. He is very happy and we feel he is getting a good education for a public school. No middle school is perfect, but the staff makes a big effort to help students succeed. They even have an hour after school devoted to homework help for any students who need it!

Heatherwood is full of teachers and staff trying their best. They seem hampered by the number of students and the administration. However, every time we brought up an issue directly to a teacher it was immediately handled with utmost care.
We were disappointed at their lack of programs for twice exceptional children. My child is dyslexic and a gifted learner and our best option was to mainstream him and tell him to do his best. He's adjusted but it was a huge let down after his wonderful grade school HiCap experience.
While my child has grown a lot, academically and socially, it has taken intentional effort on my part to make sure his teachers notice and adhere to his 504 Plan. You can't be hands off if your child has special needs.
Huge shout out to Ms. Seiger, the choir teacher. Far and away the best in the area. If your kid loves to sing - bring them to Heatherwood. You'll be amazed at how they learn to control their voice!

My experience with Heatherwood Middle School has been really positive. The teachers genuinely care and go the extra mile to support students. The communication with parents is strong, and theres a real sense of community. My child has grown both academically and socially here Im grateful for the safe and encouraging environment theyve created.

This middle school was decent, but I wasn't blown away by the quality of education. The academic standards were only slightly above average. While a few teachers may initially come across as approachable, the majority lack experience and enthusiasm. The school is grappling with consistent issues related to drug use, bullying, and inappropriate sexual behavior. Additionally, the school lacks fairness as it caters to both poor students, like the major bullies, and wealthy students, like me. The school appears to be facing challenges related to staff workload and overcrowding, especially when compared to the available facilities and staffing levels. In general, this school is decent, but there is definitely room for improvement as there are better schools out there.

I have been to many schools, and yet this one was the worst. I had a few issues with a student and the principal at the time Mrs. Laura Philips blamed me for getting bullied, just because I told the school she wanted to commit suicide. I was bullied constantly for months and got called things like "Liar, Fake, and Attention seeker" It got worse from there, to the point where I was getting hit and thrown into lockers. The school did nothing, and I got a lunch service for finally protecting myself and throwing a guy off of me. Some teachers were great, and some were awful, and even though I was constantly bullied, I still have good memories.

The teachers here are amazing, they show compassion for all. They understand us. And most importantly.. They show emotion... They don't act as if students are low.. And that they rule above them.. They look at us all.. As family. This school, is united.
Posted: October 14, 2018
They have passion for not just a couple students.. But all. Each staff member gives to a high five.. Or a motivational quote for your day, and sometimes ask about your day. This whole school is so lively, and all staff makes sure you know, that they enjoy working with you.
Posted: October 14, 2018
Those who support and lead this school, why I can't even. Never do they act like principals.. Never do they give you the vibe of feeling uncomfortable around them.. The principals here are amazing.. They talk to you.. They help you when in need.. Anne most importantly.. They care. And they listen.
Posted: October 14, 2018
They do. I was in class, and a fellow student who's struggled throughout their life, in school, why quite wonderfully the teacher had asked them if they could help, and if the student still didn't get it after the assistance, they said they'd help further, once they'd got a minute, after class, or during.
Posted: October 14, 2018
From my perspective, yes. I've never been bullied myself, but there was a slight moment, where I suppose it appeared I was, and immediately I was asked if I needed help, by a security guard. Luckily nothing actually happened. Yay, that was awkward. Either way.. I say yes. They do.

Omg!! I LOVE THIS SCHOOL! The principal especially is kind. The staff is warm, and welcoming. The education is well put together too. I'd recommend this school to the world if I could! Bless this lovely school. If I didn't have to, I'd never leave. Luckily, I still have 2\3 more years!

They make sure, that we learn the subject. But still have fun.

The teachers are willing to work with students on their needs and at their levels, to come up with plans that work for them and move them past their challenges.
Posted: September 12, 2018
Posted: September 12, 2018
The special needs programs are not only well-run, they actually work. My son has raised his grades - and understanding - and dealt with social and mental aspects of his challenges effectively.
Posted: September 12, 2018
Overall good, with the VERY large caveat that I have lost faith in the principal due to the poor response last year of the major bullying incident that could have cost a child his life.
Posted: August 19, 2018
It has been extremely positive. I would absolutely recommend Heatherwood to other parents. I think it is one of the best middle schools in Everett SD and I feel fortunate to have it nearby.
Posted: August 19, 2018
Ability to see assignments online is extremely helpful. Most teachers also gave some direction on what to expect early in the year.
Posted: August 19, 2018
Most teachers are excellent and approachable. History teacher is exceptional, math & art very good. Sci teacher not so great. Overall very pleased.
Posted: August 19, 2018
All middle schools have challenges but they seem to encourage supportive behaviors. My son hasn't had any significant issues with bullying, etc. despite being shy and heavy set. I've never witnessed disrespect or violence on campus. I don't worry for him when he goes to school.
Posted: August 19, 2018
Orientation & curriculum nights are good. Locker shortage & overcrowded classes handled well. I haven't met principal but they seem to be doing a good job.
Posted: August 19, 2018
They have done a very good job on supporting my son. He ins't special needs but he does require some accommodations and they do their best to meet them and treat him as an individual.
Posted: August 19, 2018
No complaints so far so I assume that means they are doing a good job. I'm sure it goes on to some degree, but no show stoppers. It was one of my biggest fears for middle school but those fears have been put to rest.

I love this school. I would recommend this school for anyone.
Posted: June 23, 2017
My honors math teacher Ms. Figurelli had such an effect on me that I cried yesterday when I said goodbye to her since it was the last day of school
Posted: June 23, 2017
The leadership they choose at the school is cool. It has a mixture there are student leaders and there are adult leaders. I was a student leader which is called a student Ambassador which is fun
Posted: June 23, 2017
The teachers talk in private with the student to give them more help

These principles are awful, when it comes to "fights" and other things as such, they always accuse the wrong person. There are multiple times where they also over exaggerating things, forgot your homework once, lunch service. Have your hood up for literally a minute or less, lunch service. Not to mention, lunch services are just a way for the school to make budget cuts. This is school is awful, and they have multiple people put in good reviews even though this school is pretty much a discipline camp instead of a school cause they don't teach anything. Go to Gateway, please.

A 7th grade math teacher never taught me anything! Made her classes do pages of work and told us to look up videos on them. Never was helpful, because they would yell at us when we got them wrong! How am I supposed to get any questions right if you don't teach us!
Posted: April 14, 2016
Why too much homework! At least a few pages a night! Then we get to school and are told it's wrong!
Posted: April 14, 2016
This school is terrible. When it comes to budget cuts, they will take as many as they want. The kids have to eat terrible food. The pizza is cardboard, and everything else tastes un-edible. The principles are terrible, and usually make rules that ruin the school. Teachers and staff give out unneeded lunch detentions all because the principles are to cheap to hire another janitor. When on school campus there is always a possibility of a slip. All of the teachers are terrible with few exceptions. I've been a student at Heatherwood since 6th when there were the old principles. I only got a conduct slip a year, but in eighth grade I already had three and for reasons such as yelling after school, for someone stealing my supplies, I was was given a slip but the person who stole my items got away and was never given one. If you are a parent, enroll your child in Gateway instead of this laughing stock of a school.
Posted: April 14, 2016
This school is terrible. the principles are too cheap to hire another janitor so people are given janitor duty for no reason. This school sucks!
Posted: March 10, 2014
Very unhappy in the way the school conducts their investigations about bullying. Lack of phone calls follow up to parents when students complains are presented to the office.

Heatherwood Middle School has a very caring staff. Almost all of the teachers are wonderful and I feel my child is getting a good education. The counselors really try to help where they can. It does seem to be a school with "cliques" and that is unfortuante. Many of the students come from very affluent homes and some students (as well as their parents) may feel as though they can't keep up with the material items. There are many AP courses, sports and after school programs. Many of the parents volunteer and contribute to the school's programs, they truly take ownership of making the school the best environment possible. The teachers always answer email promptly and post grades on-line very quickly, many times before the school day is even over. Although the system for parents to check grades is in need of some serious help, for some reason, 70% of the time it takes multiple attempts to be able to access the grades. Overall Heatherwood truly is an above average school.

I am a student at Heatherwood and i must say that they have really good classes. I now kids that are very intelligent and that are in 6th grade and that already got into trigonometry and high school math. They have a lot of advanced placement classes and that is pretty good. They just upgraded most of the systems lately and i must say that we have an awesome Tech teacher. She is showing us how to learn on diff. programs like photoshop and kodu, there is barely any bulling but there comes the normal judging there is volleyball, track, basketball and i must say one of the best schools ever to bad they dont have string orchestra
