My daughter has had a very positive experience. She has built a strong foundation in core academic areas, and has also learned about art, gardening, forestry, and so many other areas of interest. Strong communication from teachers, principal and PTA. Lots of opportunities for families to get involved.

This school has new leadership, and we've had a great experience. As an option school, most families are involved and interested in their child's education. It's helped round out the school with the after-school enrichment and other opportunities outside of just core academics that we've seen a number of families put time and effort into. If anything we wish SPS would fund these schools, and all their schools better. As our kids have gotten older we've seen benefits to the project-based work they do, and appreciate the number of long-time teachers.

I think people frequently over exaggerate how bad this school is. i mean, of couse they do. people rarelt like their own schools, because people rarely like learning. ive been at this chool 9/10 of the years its been in operation. ive never been to another school, so im not sure houw accurate this will be. i dont think this school is great but i would not say this school is horrible. some of the eachers are less than ideal, but still do a pretty good job of teaching. the principal and vice principal is where a significant problem arises. they do not know how to deal with conflict, or how to treat all studens equally. the students are mostly fine. i cant give a review on them because your treatment by students really varries on who you are, what grade youre in, and what year youre going to this school.

Pulled child out after one year because she seemed depressed here. Currently thriving at a different school.

Most of the work was done in school. Students did homework at their own pace with a due date rather than nightly. Most homework involved working on projects.

New teacher to elementary school. He was not used to the age group but did his best. Did not understand child psychology.

This was their claim to fame and why we initially chose the school aside from Stem aspects. We quickly realized it wasn't happening at all. You teach children mostly through role modeling good behaviors and with such condescending staff this proved impossible.

The principal was mostly interested in gossiping with other staff and trotting his dog about. There were exceptions, few admins who seemed to genuinely care about the kids and enjoyed their jobs.

My child never complained of bullying but her friends complained of being bullied and that they had to fend for themselves because school staff were no help.

This school doesn't give out too much homework, which I like.

While this school employs or employed many good teachers it got rid of the most radical and most helpful teachers there.

This school does little to nothing to prevent bullying besides the usual "oh bullying is bad" I have on several occasions reported bullying and nothing was done, not to mention how little respect the other students have of each other and the faculty

I would highly recommend STEM K-8. It has been a great experience for our son over the last seven years (he has been there since it opened in 2012).

Some teachers are great at what they do, but others seem like they were a last resort. They dont know how to work with children, and they dont know how to prepare students for the future.

The principal, Mr.Ostrom, has no effective way of dealing with small and serious issues, influencing trauma and vast amounts of stress on students. Also causing them to make bad decisions, because there is no eloquent punishment.

The school does provide extra help for people with learning differences, but they dont treat them like theyre an equal.

Students are immensely affected and traumatized from bullying, sexual harassment, and sexual assault at this school, and the lack of consequences.

I wouldnt recommend anyone with a motive to succeed to go to this school. I found my time there the worst experiences Ive ever had. Probably due to the principals unfathomable way of dealing with issues, or the lack thereof.

Project based learning has been the key to success for my children at STEM. From writing poems about spiders, making their own, while learning scientifically about them. Calculating how many legs and eyes from their 500 spider drawing and learning Anansi spider stories from Africa. Very engaging.

Reading needs to be done regardless if it assigned or not, that is a family rule. The principal does not believe that much homework improves outcomes for elementary students.

This school uses Positive Behavior Support Model which for example asks students to walk rather to stop running. If you request desired behavior you are more likely to achieve that behavior. I recently watched this happen at the pool. every parent that asked their child to walk, the child complied. Every time a parent told their child to stop running, they were ignored.
