Olympic View Elementary School

I cant suggest this school to anyone. I think the teachers try to do what they can with what theyre given but its not enough for my kid and I dont know if it would be enough for yours either. I would suggest trying to choice your kids to another school as soon as you can.

I dont think they can be because none of them stay long enough to make a change. Every year they have to replace all the teachers and its pointless to even learn their names at this point because they come and go every few months.

Respect is something that seems to be lacking. The kids don't respect the principal or anyone else in charge. I've been in morning meetings where the older kids will openly and loudly disrespect the principal or whoever else is talking and it's absolutely embarrassing. The kids know they don't have to respect them because there are no consequences. The tables for breakfast are always left in a total mess and its embarrassing when i try and bring my parents to my childs school and they see all of the mess around.

Once I came early to pick my daughter up and i walked into the aftermath of a student HITTING a teacher with an object. The student just went right back to class like it was normal. I've been in the office to sign my kid out and have watched other kids come in and absolutely destroy their office while they were having a tantrum. I have never seen anything like the things I've seen here.

I have not had good experiences with the current leadership. At my kids last schools we were lucky enough to have principals who were warm and inviting and greeted you whenever they saw you that is not the case here and its very sad people prefer to talk to the family liasion over the principal because at least then you feel like youre talking to an actual person and she's not glued to her cell phone while youre trying to talk to her

My son had the unfortunate experience to attend Olympic View because we moved to the state too late to do Choice Enrollment. When he entered the school in 4th grade he had tested into high school reading in the old school. His teacher blew off the kids who were having any type of success. The only kids who were seemingly given any help or extra attention were the three in the class who did not speak English. My son got punished, yes PUNISHED, for telling the teacher another child punched him in the face. He was told not to be a tattle tale! WHAT!? My child was assisted and his teacher punished him for saying so. By the time the school year ended, the principal (who talks the talk but did not produce any actual help) had also blown off our cries for help with challenging my child with academics. My son who previously LOVED school before he was tortured in this one, hated school and begged not to go. He was having nausea and was so upset about how he was treated, bullied and ignored by teachers and the principal. Sad situation. Teachers seem defeated because the parents overall do not help or get involved so they act like they don’t need to either.

i love this school, and so does my daughter. before she went to an alternitive school and she was not being challenged, and know she is in 6th grademath and is getting challenged. this school has great programs and after shcool stuff. some after school programs are acidemic and some are just for fun. and the play program is amazing, and tomorrow is the closing night for there play aladin.

This school is horrible. There is not enough space to write all the things that are bad (only 150 characters). This is my childs 1st yr here and I am looking at other schools to transfer her to. The last straw was the teacher saying they dont have to do homework -- its assigned but the teachers have been told not to "punish" the kids for their homework -- staying in for recess or grading it. Wish I could list all that is wrong DO NOT SEND YOUR CHILD HERE!!!

If you look at the statistics for this school, you will see that 76% of the teachers have a Masters Degree-a higher percentage than any other elementary school in Federal Way. The teachers at this school work tirelessly to help students coming from poverty as well as those who start kindergarten with no English skills at all. When families struggled with Christmas this year, a nearby church helped 250 families. That left 48 kids without Christmas food and gifts...until the staff, some of whom are going through their own financial struggles, decided to provide Christmas for those other 48 kids. Because their is so little parent involvement the teachers do all the extra things for the school, such as reading night, math night, music concerts, book fair, carnival. They do this because they are dedicated teachers who work hard for their students in an effort to bridge the gap.
