My kids have been at Catalyst since the beginning. No school is perfect but this is a school where the staff truly care about your children and where they focus on academics alongside supporting students socially and emotionally. The inclusion model has been really important to me in terms of the development of my children. I highly recommend you come tour the school and see if it's the right fit for your family.

As a former staff member and parent to two former Catalyst scholars, I feel its important for families to know that my experience at Catalyst did not align with the schools stated mission.

Staff turnover has been consistently high since the early years of operation. By year two, staff had already contacted the Board with concerns about limited support for staff. This pattern has caused low morale, and frequent classroom disruptions caused by chronic call-outs and resignations. This instability directly affects students. In my own familys experience, four out of five teachers in my two childrens classes left midyear during the 202425 school year. We ultimately unenrolled them to find a school that prioritizes staff support and retention.

I also experienced multiple incidents of physical harm with insufficient administrative follow-up. Safety protocols were inconsistently applied, and requests for assistance often went unanswered, creating conditions that felt unsafe for both staff and students.

While Catalyst publicly emphasizes equity and inclusion, several former BIPOC staff members, including myself, had concerns minimized or reframed in ways that felt dismissive. This discrepancy raises important questions about whether the schools DEIB commitments are fully reflected in day-to-day practices such as equity in pay, hiring practices, and student academic support.

Families deserve transparency and consistency. Based on my experience, I cannot recommend Catalyst as a safe or sustainably supportive environment for students or educators.

I like this school because when you need help they help you and there is 2-4 teachers in the class at once and they all treat the students the same and are all far to evb.

Catalyst boasts about having an inclusive model and being a place where every student can thrive, however the experience we had couldnt be further from that. Several educators at Catalyst care to do the right thing for the children but the co-founders are unpleasant, inappropriate and borderline ableist. If your child has special needs that require any behavior support what so ever I would stay far, far away from Catalyst. They use suspensions as a form of behavior modification. A clear marker that this school has obvious internal issues (likely stemming from very poor leadership from the co-founders) is that they cannot keep teaching positions filled. Currently Catalyst is one month into the school year and staff have left their positions at the school for one reason or another. After talking with various people throughout the community this is a very known issue. Hopefully OSPI will prompt some serious equity housekeeping at Catalyst.

Educators and staff are deeply committed to equity and to supporting every scholar in finding their passion and purpose, while also cultivating the hope, optimism, and leadership needed to thrive in life. The school emphasizes innovative teaching, strong relationships, and high expectations, ensuring that both adults and students feel challenged and supported. Scholars are known, loved and challenged, they are greeted daily by multiple staff members and welcomed to the space. Scholars are encouraged to show up authentically, express themselves, and be themselves freely. The school runs an inclusive model with a minimum of two educators in the rooms most of the time, which means that scholars in special education are a part of the general education classrooms. At Catalyst, learning is joyful, inclusive, and community-driven, making it a place where scholars are inspired to grow and where staff are valued as professionals and as people.

Catalyst Public Schools is an incredible place for scholars to learn and grow. The staff truly knows each scholar and creates an environment where all students feel like they belong. One of the things that stands out most is how well Catalyst supports every child, including those with Special Education needs. The school takes inclusion seriouslyspecial education services are built into the classroom so scholars can learn alongside their peers, with teachers and support staff providing the right accommodations and encouragement.

The communication with families is excellent, and families feel like partners in our childs education. The smaller staff to scholar ratio and caring teachers make it possible for each scholar to get the attention they need. Catalyst focuses not only on academics but also on social-emotional learning and character, which makes a huge difference.

If you are looking for a school that challenges kids academically while also supporting their unique needs and celebrating who they are, Catalyst is a wonderful choice.

I have been at this school since the beginning and what has been achieved by Catalyst is simply amazing. Their leaders and their staff care so deeply about their scholars and build systems to support growth for ALL. Catalyst has welcomed all scholars and families into their community and has supported everyone, regardless of their background. The co-teaching model gives more resources to the scholars than any other school around.

Im at Catalyst because we care about the whole scholar and that is shown every day with our amazing teachers. Come check us out, you wont be disappointed.

I have visited Catalyst several times to observe their school development from before it opened to the opening of their High School. As an educator myself I have been very impressed with the overall structure, procedures, staff, curriculum, students, leadership and the COMMUNITY they have created! I cant wait to see them continue to flourish!

This school by far is the worst in the district. I had to pull my daughter and my son out for unfair treatment but a principal who later quit and by a teacher who is still employed. One incident where they tried to blame my son for another student saying the N-Word twice which they later clarified that it wasnt him but her acting alone. Was there any apology given nope. I hade to remove my daughter from the school due to the principal harassing her on a daily basis. He later quit. This school treats black kids like an after thought and white kids as the priority. This place in not green book approved and any parent of a child of color that goes here better understand what they are getting into. DO NOT ENROLL YOUR KID HERE!!!!!!!!!

Catalyst Public Schools: Family Engagement and Leadership
Catalyst Public Schools is a growing and learning community that values family engagement as a way to connect deeply with one another. Families at Catalyst have two powerful opportunities to get involved: FAN Meetings (Family Action Network) and CFO Meetings (Catalyst Families Organizing).
FAN Meetings (Family Action Network):
These gatherings are designed for families to connect, share ideas, and enjoy fun activities together. Some of the events families have helped organize include:
Trunk or Treat
First Fridays in the Bremerton community
Field Day
Art experiences, such as monthly sessions with an art therapist, showcasing teacher-artists in the spring, and hosting our Art Bazaar, where scholars create and sell their work while learning about financial literacy.
FAN Meetings are truly an incubator for family ideas. Parents bring their creativity, we collaborate together, and then implement those ideas in ways that enrich both our school and the larger community.
CFO Meetings (Catalyst Families Organizing):
This is where families come together to lead on important school and community issues. Recently, our families organized a two-year safety campaign to ensure school zone signs, stop signs, and bus signs were installed around our school. This campaign was successful because of the commitment and organization of our families.
Looking ahead, CFO is focusing on building parent leadership classes and a Parent Leadership Team to strengthen the voices of families in shaping Catalysts future.
Family Leadership in Action:
Every month, just about 30 families or more attend meetings or stay connected to the work. Parents meet with our Engagement Coordinator to share their concerns, goals, and ideas. Together, we create action steps that represent families voiceswhile also giving parents the space and support to represent themselves directly.
At Catalyst Public Schools, family involvement is not just encouragedit is foundational. Through FAN and CFO, our families are shaping experiences, building leadership, and creating lasting change for our scholars and community.

Catalyst Public Schools has been such a blessing for our family. From the very first day, we felt welcomed and valued as true partners in our childs education. The teachers go above and beyondnot just to teach academics, but to nurture each students confidence, sense of belonging, and curiosity. What stands out most is how intentional the school is about building community; the BRAVE values arent just words on a wall, theyre lived every day in classrooms, hallways, and family events.

Academically, our child has grown tremendously thanks to the strong curriculum and the schools focus on mastery-based learning. They dont just rush students alongthey make sure every child is really learning and progressing. And as parents, we are kept in the loop with clear communication and opportunities to be involved. Catalyst truly believes that all means all, and it shows. We couldnt be happier to be part of this school family!

Catalyst promises diversity and inclusion. They do talk a lot about it but their actions do not match their words. There is no PTA. All meetings with parents are run by Catalyst, so they don't take a lot of parent opinions. They do not take bullying or safety seriously. Seems like they care more about not expelling students than actually keeping students safe. They focus a lot on the kids with big behaviors and kids who don't have those end up not getting support they need. Also it seems like their teachers are always leaving which is hard on the students.
