The staff is wonderful the teachers always reach out to me. Every time I visit the school it is always pleasant. My son went from being angry at the world,not trusting anyone feeling like all he had was me to a very vibrant happy young man, that feels like he really belongs somewhere, the staff makes the children feel important.

The teachers could care less about my kids when they attended. My son was supposed to receive extra help, due to learning disability, and kept getting suspended. No homework was ever assigned to him when he was out. My daughter dropped out, and ended up getting her ged, due to bullying from other students (no one cared or did anything). I finally withdrew my son as I was getting nowhere with the staff and they would also schedule progress meetings to happen when I was at work.

I believe an important variable for a student to succeed in high school is parental involvement and support. I have two children who attended KM. Both are high honor students. Parents need to teach the importance and value of education at a young age. KM has many low income families who move in and out of district in the middle of the school year. This is tough on students having to adjust. The demographic and socioeconomic makeup of the school such as low income, one parent household, non-English speaking families, etc..attributes to low test scores and poor academics in many areas. KM is a good school but the classes are not rigorous enough as there aren't many AP classes available. Running Start and IB programs are available. My son attained his AS degree from Highline College simultaneously, which is a great money saver. The teachers at KM enjoy teaching and the staff care about their students.

Terrible. Awful. This school is an example of why some parents feel so strongly about school vouchers. It is tragic that my child is stuck with this AWFUL school because of our address.

No apparent concern at all in regards to monitoring and holding students accountable for their grades and homework. My child was allowed to participate in athletic DESPITE them failing classes and DESPITE assurances from the coaches that this would be monitored and would be a requirement to participate

Previous principal appeared to do NOTHING to improve the school. So far this year the only thing I can tell is different with the new principal is that the quality of the voice mail greetings and robo calls has gone up.

My child is often late to school. No consequences. No detention, nothing.

My child often performs poorly on school work. No consequences. Allowed to play on sports team (even those coached by his teachers who know he is struggling!).

Understand, my child does not have a competence problem. The teachers all say he is quite bright, and even a positive presence in the class. The problem is my child is LAZY, and I feel like I fighting this battle all by myself with no support from the school.

I tried to pursue securing an alternative teaching / learning methodology for my child, one that would be better suited for my child's particular issues, and was rebuffed.

Look at the OSPI Report Card to see the actual statistics on this school. Everyone giving KM a 5 star rating probably doesn't even know what OSPI stands for. KM has the lowest graduation rate. Fact.

Despite these flaws I outlined, this school isn't that bad at all. There are IB courses here and AP too. The low GPA you see in this school is because of refugee/immigrant students, those with learning disabilities, and partially because of students who don't care.

The teachers still give out paper assignments, when we are provided computers specifically for school work.

The teachers at this school are not bad at all. However, I want you to hear this example of what they do:
I am about to be dismissed from my social studies class in the second floor of the main building.
The teacher says, "the bell does not dismiss you, I do". The teacher keeps the class in for two minutes.
I have to go to a class in the portables outside after this one, which is a far distance from this class.
In order to get to my next class now, I will almost definitely be late unless I run through the halls, which is against school rules.
I arrive at my class at a portable and I am late, and punished by detention. I ask the teacher if I can go to the restroom. He will either say, "you cannot go to the restroom within 10 minutes of passing period" or "you can't go during 4th period". I can wait the ten minutes, but in my previous class, the teacher said "you cannot go within 10 minutes before the next passing". See the problem? Just let me pee.

I went to KL, KR & KM. Kent meridian is a horrible horrible school to put your child into! I was offered drugs multiple times! Girls in my classrooms got pregnant, a lot of fights happening daily! There's cops on campus as well as security 24/7 on bikes and armed!

Don't kid yourself. Look up the graduation rates and standardized testing scores for this school. Everything is horrendous. Yes, there are students that go to college after graduating with IB classes, but you have a WAY better chance off at Kentridge or Kentwood.

Awesome school with teachers who care. The IB program allows all students the chance to have the best education in the area. Along with running start and AP.

I hated going to this school. Rude/immature kids, terrible teachers, and a HUGE drug problem. It's just not a great campus. Glad I graduated this year. It was the WORST 4 years of my life. If you have other schools available for you, PLEASE take them! Do NOT go to this school!

Kent-Meridian is the greatest school out there, our diversity is out of this world. Represent the Royal Power and build our dynasty as one. Rumors are KM is the most ghetto and lousy school out there, but I'll tell you what, it really is not. It may be the best, it's your opinion, not otheres.

When I told my friends that I was going to KM (went to Cedar heights) They thought that I was crazy and KM is the most Ghetto school there is. But in reality this is a rumor that was started by outsiders and/or possibly someone who has had a bad experience. Also having low test scores can be from people in the school who have more problems at home. Also there's more people who have had less time to get an education because they have immigrated. Also if you want good teachers who help you out go to the KMTA or kent meridian technology academy. The teachers there are phenomenal, there way of teaching isn't just out of the book. Also if you do KMTA and certain electives you don't even have to carry a textbook.

No they don't they are horrible to the kids; the teachers make them feel useless. They make sure they don't pass the WAHSL and they give out Certificates of Completion instead of Diploma which effects them getting into any high intuition. I don't recommend this school to anyone with special needs or without special need children. The facility are just there to collect a paycheck, they are lazy.

Kent Meridian was the worst school i could have ever have gone to in my life! It was my junior year and i wasn't really feeling like i was getting much attention form my teachers who were are all rude and didn't grade or teach properly they all had an attitude and even worse the principal was so arrogant He lets the teachers bully there students and he ignores the parents when they ask for help and doesn't care about the students that were failing and they honestly weren't great teachers they were all lazy and sat on their computers everyday ....i honestly wouldn't be surprised if no one graduated there because the staff aren't even devoted to their jobs in helping us achieve.

KMHS is a GREAT school. Everyone is very friendly; the teachers, students, and staff. The school is very diverse; so if you are of another race other than caucasian, you won't feel left out or anything. The rumors of the school having a bad reputation for fighting and such are not true at all. Yes, there's fighting ocasionally, but even the best of schools have those kind of diciplinary problems. At KM you'll feel at home and will be treated with respect and kindness. Proud to be a GRADUATE ROYAL! GOOOOOO ROYALS!!!
