Most people that work there don't even like kids and in PE they banned plastic water bottles because people left them out instead of maybe putting more trash cans around and some of the kids get sent to detention JUST FOR CHEWING GUM they won't even let you off with a warning

My experience at Meeker was horrid, bathrooms only get cleaned once week and some staff/teachers are sexist for an example, a boy uses his phone and gets written up and on the other hand is a female using a phone and she only gets a warning.

This school sucks. I saw a kid in the field with no shirt on, there's kids yelling slurs at each other, and the staff makes physical contact with children when they don't like it.

School makes obscure rules on dress code as well as other things, but still doesn't give out a handbook or explicitly tell the students the dress code, this causes many disruptions in learning, not because of what the student are wearing but because the teachers constantly pull kids out of class to change what they are wearing.
The most of the staff doesn't take kindly with students disagreeing with them, and are very condescending.

It's sad that this school has gone downhill in the way it has since Ms. Nash has taken over. The administration at this school act like teenage girls themselves and the only real bullies here are the adults. It's no secret in the community that the decent long term teachers at this school have already left or are planning on leaving. They are fed up with the toxic environment at this school as well. My neighbor taught at Meeker for awhile and has since left for a neighboring district because of the way this school was being run by the current administration. She herself told me that you "couldn't pay her to send her children to that school". She stated that Meeker has a pretty negative reputation among educators in the area.This is coming from someone who has been teaching for almost 20 years. People are starting to talk and take notice. State standardized testing and student performance are steadily declining and Meeker is now rated at #256 out of 400 middle schools in WA State. The students are really struggling under the current administrations direction and most students here are failing at least 1 class. In speaking to other parents and several friends who teach for the district, I am told that the right people are starting to take notice of the decline in performance of the students and parent complaints, and hopefully that means some much needed changes are coming soon.

Currently I rate my experience at a 75%, there is room for improvement. And I know work is being done to better help Meeker students be successful. It needs to be seen beyond the teachers everyone loves and move into all of the classrooms.

The current school culture is to not give homework. Assignments can be completed in class, if the student chooses to do so. Homework is assigned when higher level of work is desired or when done as a project. I don't mind this set up; but also would like if the in class participation helped students take those deeper dives often necessary to fully understand some subjects.

In the last two years, there have been several stand out teachers at this school. They stand out because of the things you'd expect: their ability to connect with students, to make the subject matter interesting, and their accountability (being there for their students when needed). On the flip side, there are also a few teachers that have a difficult time connecting (either personally or subject matter) with the kids. What's worse is they give off the impression that they don't care...it's my way or whatever. Learning isn't done through memorization and getting through subjects...it is about teaching the how and why we do things; kids learn better when they are in positive environments that foster creativity, critical thinking, or at the very least provides the idea that 'I can do this.'

Mrs. Nash has been a champion for the students at Meeker. She is open to new ideas and welcomes parental involvement.

I agree with some of the posts below that there is a major issue with the administration and leadership at this school. The way they handle (or actually don't handle) bullying situations at this school is alarming. Even when there is physical proof of threats from a bully, they still do nothing about it.

My experience with the school was very great. The school provides the students with loads of education needed for highschool and the extra help for this who are struggling. Their grading systems are fair unlike other schools that I have had experience with. Their many programs helped me fill in some educational gaps that I have that were not provided in my old school along with giving kids the opportunities to upgrade into a more challenging class that is on their level. I really love how positive the staff and students are and I hope to continue my 8th grade in Meekers! I highly recommend putting your child here in MK if you want a happy and fully educated kid! Trust me, you won't regret it. I really hope you'll love it here as much as I do.

The teachers actually help the students to complete parts of All of their homework during class time. Not much homework, but you learn alot in school. If there is homework, it is mostly programmed into your computer, which is good since it helps you get used to it since you'll be using them alot in highschool. Overall, good.

The teachers here are very positive and willing to teach their students under any circumstances. I learned alot during the school year and am looking forward to more days of school.

Our experience at this school has been beyond frustrating and I truly feel the teachers are more guilty of bullying than the students are. Some of the teachers are downright cruel. They yell at the students, curse at them and use intimidation tactics to get students to comply. It's horrifying that this is going on and no one is doing anything to stop it or protect these children. These poor kids have no rights and no voice at this school.

Terrible school with terrible leadership. Bullying is rampant at this school and teachers and administrators look the other way. Kids shouldn't be afraid to go to school.

As a student, I would like to ask the leadership at the school to pay closer attention to what's going on in your classrooms. Sit in on some of the classes and see how teachers conduct themselves. Their attitudes towards students are horrible and they are extremely lazy when it comes to teaching. I take notes all day long. That's it. If you ask for help, they look at you like you're crazy and tell you to study harder. I'm an honor student. Always have been. Studying isn't the issue. Teachers shouldn't be sitting at their desks silently the entire class. We cannot teach ourselves. It's also really hard to watch all of the bullying that goes on at this school and no one stops it. The bullie's get a slap on the wrist and they are back at it again. Never any consequences. And please speak to your staff about the way they interact with students. Just today, I saw the school cashier cursing at a student and also a bus driver call a student an idiot. This shouldn't be allowed.

They just need to fix up the cafeteria more and other things like that. I guess it's not a bad school.
