I have been at this school for 2 years now and my experience has been inferior and unimpressive, the students here are arrogant and dismissive. Every time i have a conversation with someone, it turns into them ignoring everything i say, because of this i try and talk to a counselor, and they try to get all in my personal business when i was just trying to vent to them about my friends. The safety at this school is beyond terrible, you take 2 steps into the hallway and everyone is pushing, shoving, yelling, swearing, or even starting fights. The admin doesn't do anything in these situations, i talked to them about this one kid that was bullying me, and they did nothing about it, so he's been bullying me for 2 years straight. Teachers at this school are also insanely rude at times, my math teacher this year swore at our class and yells at kids to go into the hallway, he also calls out students personal information, like who their parents are, what they do on their laptops, and just the situations that go on at home. I feel most unsafe in the cafeteria and locker rooms, lunches are just chaos, there's people running around playing tag, pushing and shoving to get food, and staring fights over people talking about them behind their back. Locker rooms are another thing, students take pictures, which can show private things (like people changing), one of my friends was in the background of a photo, while changing into her gym shirt, this photo was posted (i think). My overall experience was not pleasant, it made me never want to go to school, which usually i like to go to school and learn about different things.

As a student, I want to share my deep concerns about Cedar Heights Middle School. The overall environment is troubling and far from what a supportive educational institution should offer.

Discipline Issues: The school struggles with maintaining consistent and fair discipline. Rules seem to be enforced based on the principal’s mood rather than clear policy, leading to biased treatment and confusion among students and staff.

Student Behavior: Disrespect toward teachers is rampant and often goes unchecked. Educators are left to manage disruptive classrooms with little support, which severely impacts learning. and it’s rarely addressed effectively. Teachers are left to manage disruptive behavior with little support, which undermines learning and morale. Some teachers genuinely care, but others come off as unsettling or inappropriate in their behavior making students uncomfortable rather than supported. These concerns are rarely addressed, and it creates a toxic atmosphere.

Facilities: The bathrooms are consistently filthy and poorly maintained. It’s unacceptable for students to be expected to use such unhygienic facilities daily.

Bullying and Fights: Bullying is a serious issue here, and physical altercations occur far too frequently. What’s worse, the consequences for such behavior are inconsistent and often unfair. Bullying and physical fights happen too often, and the consequences are uneven and sometimes nonexistent. Victims are left feeling unsafe and unheard.

Academic Engagement: The curriculum lacks creativity and relevance. Many students find the material dull and uninspiring, which contributes to disengagement and poor performance. Lessons feel outdated and uninspiring, which makes it hard for students to stay motivated. There’s little effort to make learning relevant or exciting.

Overall, Cedar Heights Middle School needs urgent reform in leadership, discipline policy, student support, and facility maintenance. Until these issues are addressed, I cannot recommend this school to any family seeking a safe and enriching learning environment.

Cedar Heights Middle School has been a positive experience for our family overall. The school offers a strong academic foundation and has many dedicated teachers who genuinely care about their students’ success. My child has grown both academically and socially during their time here, and we’ve seen encouraging progress.

The campus feels safe and well-maintained, and there are a variety of extracurricular activities that help students explore their interests. Communication from most teachers has been consistent, and we appreciate the staff’s efforts to keep parents in the loop.

That said, like any school, there’s room for improvement. At times, communication from administration can be a bit delayed, especially when it comes to changes in schedules or addressing behavioral issues school-wide. Additionally, some class sizes feel a little too large, which can make it harder for certain students to get individualized attention.

Despite these small concerns, we’re overall very happy with Cedar Heights. The supportive teachers and diverse opportunities for students make it a solid middle school choice. With a few tweaks, it could easily be a five-star school.

When I first went to middle school, I thought that other kids and teachers would be nice but to be fully honest this is probably the worse school I have ever been too. I mean you can barely go anywhere without seeing someone vaping/ smoking in the hallways and you always see people making out in the bathrooms and halls. And don't get me started on the teachers I mean they barley teach all they do is make you write down some notes and then they throw a packet or quick check at you and expect you to get all of the answers correct. Omg the current state of the school is indescribable I mean the bathrooms look like something out of a horror movie. And whenever the school gets tons of money, they spend it on something stupid like "play Fortnite with Mr. beast or get a free electric bike". Like Please spend the money on something other than us I mean we are very thankful but please use the money to renovate the bathrooms.

Cedar Heights was a very peculiar experience for many reasons. The portables were outdated and usually had water stains on their carpets and ceilings and the school had a bad problem dealing with bees during my first year. There were also constant bouts where large portions of the campus were blocked off (Near the big tree at the front of the school where they were laying bark due to fear of kids tripping and hurting themselves on the bare dirt or tree roots) And the bathrooms being closed often due to vandalism or poor plumbing resulting in toilet clogs. Some teachers were a bit over their head about the way they teached and most teachers were either in their 10th+ year at the school or in their first year, never seemed like there was an in between. The flooring around the school was very inconsistent in level and condition due to a lack of upkeep and lockers were being replaced due to them barely being used.

Cedar Heights Middleschool has no redeeming qualities which could possibly be brought to support the idea that its' performance as an academic administration is even, sub-par. The immediate invocation of non-seriousness when it comes to teaching its instruction is a joke. Lacking in areas key to the success of any student of the school's community. Lack of support for those who seek furthered education, lazy/slacked teaching standards leading to poor performance even in honorary courses. The showing of administrative weakness when it comes to running basic parent-to-school communications, well-known bullying of frequent matter are not dealt with accordingly, inequitable rule enforcement resulting in racial biases to appear frequently. There's more to be said about how the everyday life of a student has caused for several issues outside of school and beyond. However, these incurrences are easily spot-able upon observing the school culture. To say it bluntly, Cedar Heights Middleschool is a troubling experience for any student and should be avoided if you care about the education of your child.

I'm going to this school right now and its now and its not as bad as everyone is putting it. I dont know about how it was years ago but i dont see any problems. I see people saying how there's bullying and fights but that's just not true. And for the security guard he a good guy and knows how to balance being a cool security guard and doin his job. And all the teachers I have are aren't as bad as you are all putting it, and they know how to do there's jobs and not to much homework. But the downfall about this school is some of the kids. They dont get punished for doing bad things such as swearing, vandalism and much more. And when a kid dose something he shouldn't we all get punished such as when they closed the vending machine and when they have open doors for the bathroom. Beside that there are still minor flaws that need to get fixed.

After I bit of being at the school and seeing how it works. Often in the hallways, you can see a couple making out every now and then when in building (before covid). Another thing you will notice is that the staff does nothing about bullying or just emotional help. I think that they could do better than that. Every few days you find the school security playing basketball with students, there are also quite a few fights. The staff normally just sit up on stage on their phone or laptop, not watching over us whatsoever. I think there is a lot they could improve on. Honestly, I don't feel safe in the school or near the other students. They will group up and walk around acting like they are better than others; even acting like gangs. Sometimes you can sit in class and someone will play inappropriate noises, all the teachers do is take their phones. There is no emotional support from the councilors, all they say is "that's normal", or "everything will be okay". Obviously, this isn't something you tell a teenager when they seek help. I understand that they may not understand the situation. But when a student comes up to you, you don't say that whatsoever. Most of the time they don't even give us homework, show any concern about teaching us respect or any of the "core values". With an IEP I can say I never have gotten any help out of my councilors. Most of the time we sit in our classroom watching a movie or even doing study hall, there is nothing much to do except talk to friends or play games on our laptops. Don't recommend this school. Either way, as someone who has to deal with emotional stuff; the councilors need to work on their social skills.

The leadership at the school is terrible. They implement seemingly arbitrary consequences for problem behavior and most of the consequences punish the many for the actions of a few. Example: when the boys’ room was found to have some graffiti, the school decided to close ALL bathrooms except for those in the office. Something I question the legality of.

I have emailed the leadership twice about my concerns and have received NOTHING in response.

Many teachers either assign too much homework or don’t explain the lessons effectively enough for homework to be understood and completed.

Sadly, the good teachers are outnumbered by the bad ones. Many teachers have little to no control over their classrooms. Those same teachers attempt to seize control by yelling, insulting, or by issuing punishments that affect the entire class rather than the offender. All four of my children have attended the school and these issues have been consistent.

The concept that CHMS develops any kk d of character is laughable. Fights break out on a regular basis with little to no intervention from the teachers or security. Students swear and are disrespectful to everyone, not just each other.

This school is overall a great school, I went there and enjoyed it, there is no one who is ever left at a lunch table or left alone, without someone offering a friendship, the teachers are great (some) and people are freindly.

Some teachers at this school can be byest towards certain students and treat them differently then the overall class. Also a few teachers fail to upload grades at a fast rate some towards the end of the week, and then some you have to constantly remind to change your grades.

Students treat the staff like garbage and nothing is done about it. They cuss and act like gang bangers on a daily basis. Behavior kids have zero consequences and get to just go outside and play basketball with the security guard. Fights occur on a daily basis. Office staff is disrespectful and rude to parents. I have e-mailed a complaint regarding this to the school principal and her response was simply, "sorry." No acknowledgement of the problem, nothing, and the cold, rude behavior still continues. Respect is not developed, shown or taught to the students by the administrators. Teachers so far have been OK. No major complaints. However, the learning environment is not a positive place for students due to the lack of discipline in this school.

The Principle is a female who uses how she feels on a particular day to make discipline decisions. My daughter was slapped at the school and the principle took away the girls afterschool activities for 3 weeks. When my daughter who is a cheerleader went to a game the same week to cheer the girl was there and so was the principle. She did nothing to make the girl leave. Meanwhile the girl was intimidating my daughter right in front of the principle.

Cedar heights middle school is a great school! My daughter has excelled since she transferred out of the Auburn SD last year. The teachers are great and the kids seem to be getting a good education.

I think the school is similar in fashion to other middle schools. There is a lack of usage with computers I think for a lot of people. But you can choose the right classes and use computers more. Also I have heard that the middle school is good. I was never there before the newest principal. However the current principal is okay and technology is strict. I think they could do better in technology department. A couple teachers give you automatic d's for doing nothing. Also some teachers aren't really excited about school. I wish that the school was more diverse and the races were more spread out like Kent-Meridian High School. But if you are thinking about this school I would recommend it.
