Awesome staff and administration. The school really invests in the students growth and well being. Most teachers have been there for years which is a testament to the go distance and care the kids feel. No clue what the 1 star rating referencing drill sergeants. Kids have so many positive things to say. The PTA is also top notch and the events are great including the trunk or treat and the summer carnival. We love ridgewood!

We had a terrible experience at Ridgewood Elementary School in the Renton. We read about and hear on the news about schools actively ignoring educational goals of students in favor of their own agenda.

While the teachers at Ridgewood are great, and academically our kids are doing well, my wife and I have witnessed very unprofessional behavior from the administrative staff. Kids are yelled at from the moment they walk onto the school grounds by the cross-walk and drop-off line attendant. Young children who have to sit in class for several hours a day need a way to release their energy, but at Ridgewood they aren't allowed to run or play tag on the playground lest they get written up. They are yelled at for talking during lunch...in some cases through a megaphone! My own children talk about how they want to switch schools because the staff is mean and scary at times. We tell them to stick through it but in reality their experience is shared by many other families we know in the area. I honestly can't imagine a military school being much less strict than this school. I'm afraid that the only way Ridgewood gets better is if the principal takes control of the behavior of her staff. The school needs nurturing staff members, not drill sergeants!

Good balance between homework discipline and letting children enjoy non-school activities.

Posted: May 1, 2018

Teachers have strong presence in school, community, and participate in strong communication skills.

Posted: May 1, 2018

They promote the "Ridgewood Way" and the values are on display throughout the school.

Posted: May 1, 2018

The principal is taken seriously, without being agressive.

Bullying is taken seriously and does not seem to be a common experience.

Had our children there and we had a great experience.

The office staff was always friendly and easy to talk to.

Posted: June 29, 2017

In early grades my child was behind with reading and the teachers were quick to intervene and get my child setup in programs to get him on track. He quickly got up to grade level standards and stayed there.

My child never had any issues and so I have no experience with how Ridgewood staff handles bullying.

Our overall experience at Ridgewood was great and I would definitely recommend this school to families moving to the area.

I believe that besides reading homework should not be assigned. I never felt my child had too much homework though.

My child was at this school from kindergarten thru 6th and most of the teachers my child had were great. I would definitely recommend this school to other families.

All of the staff and teachers showed that they cared about the students.

They use a positive rewards program, and constantly reinforce kindness and civility. The Staff exemplifies these standards.

My daughter attended 4th, 5th, and 6th grade here. She was as sad as I was for it to end. The teachers and staff are amazing. We moved around several times between California, Oregon, and California. Tough on the family, tough on my kid. From day one, the teachers and students made my daughter feel at home. They gave her love, and attention like you would not believe. She flourished academically and as a person. I cannot say enough good things about the entire staff. Give them a shot, you will not be disappointed. I have 2 little boys who will soon attend school, and I am doing everything possible to purchase a home in this schools area, so that they can attend Ridgewood.

We have been at Ridgegwood for around 6 years now. This year is the worst as far as organization. We are planning on moving to get the kids out of Ridgewood and out of the Kent School District. After sitting back and watching my friends and family's kids flourish in their schools for the past few years, I'm finally getting them out. The new principal is nice, but inexperienced and now with no Superintendent, I don't want a part of it anymore and I don't want to wait to see if it will get better.

Ridgewood has kept the love of learning alive for both of my children. Like any business, experience of the staff (admin & teachers) can vary drastically. With few exceptions, our family has had a positive experience moving through the grades.

My son attended this school for two years. The first year his teacher was horrific. I had to take my child to a tutor. The second year his teacher was phenomenal. There is a huge focus on the highly capable program. For average students, it's hit or miss. Don't expect much from the administration- they are pleasant, but are just going through the motions and are worthless.
