I love this school it is one the best high school i have seen. some reviews might say that is it not the best but that is all cap.

Kentlake High School has been an absolutely fantastic experience for our family. From the very beginning, weve been impressed by the professionalism, warmth, and dedication of the staff and teachers. The school offers a wide variety of academic programs, electives, and extracurricular activities that truly help students discover and develop their strengths.

What stands out most is the supportive and inclusive environment. The teachers go above and beyond to ensure students are not only learning but thriving. They care about their students success and well-being, and it shows in their communication and classroom engagement. My child feels seen, challenged, and encouraged every step of the way.

The school also provides great opportunities for students to prepare for life after high schoolwhether its through college readiness programs, AP courses, CTE pathways, or leadership development. The counselors and staff are incredibly helpful and responsive, which has made navigating high school much smoother for both students and parents.

Kentlake also has a strong sense of school spirit and community. Events, sports, and clubs are well-organized and help students feel connected and involved. It truly feels like a place where students can grow academically, socially, and emotionally.

Im so grateful for everything Kentlake High School has provided our family. Its a school that cares deeply and works hard to support student success. Highly recommend!

Kentlake is almost 50% free and reduced lunch. Students are offered a variety of courses- Core, AP, College In The Classroom. Staff is dedicated and puts student needs first.

Both of my kids benefitted from the theater and music programs at Kentlake. Although both graduated a number of years ago and the teachers may not be the same, those programs regularly took prizes in national competition and the statewide 5th Avenue Musical Theater Awards. My daughter's class included several nationally successful recording artists (Daphne loves Derby, Tess Henley) and both of my kids went to top private schools with scholarships as did a number of their classmates. The main negative was that colleges on the East Coast look at weighted scores (WA didn't weight for AP courses) and the school year ends later than most meaning that year-end honors aren't available until long after most districts have finished. Not the fault of the school but the state which wants scholars to stay in WA even when they can get into top schools elsewhere.

Kentlake is an excellent school that has shown much improvement over the last five or six years. The new administration (with Dr. Potts) has done a great job. On average, the staff and teachers are very nice and helpful. I think the only real issue with this school is some of its students. But hey, it's a public school, you're going to have a few misbehaved students here and there. Overall great school.

Dr. Potts has really turned this building around, attitude-wise. The population has decreased to under 1400 which also helps. Students at Kentlake have finally taken a sense of pride in their school; they are more empathetic and caring than 4 years ago, and are more likely to get involved beyond 2:30pm. Bringing in Dr. Potts 5 years ago has turned this school from the least pleasant high school in the district to a school that is among the best to be at. Academic rigor has been stressed, and most students have an Honors, AP, or UW level class because the staff has made it a priority to encourage students to reach farther than they're used to. The school itself even paid for the SAT and PSAT to be taken by all seniors and juniors the past two years. The only thing which has worsened is the school's athletic records and, when your school loses 400-500 kids in 4 years, that's to be expected. The teams all play with a bit of a chip on their shoulders, which is understandable when you're a 2A-size school playing in a 4A league. They're a scrappy bunch with a lot of pluck, some great teachers, a lot of good kids, and the school truly gets better year after year.

Reading another comment, I strongly agree. Many KL teachers would make you believe if you didn't make one deadline on a project you might as well give up and fail the project or even the class. I transferred my senior year not only because teachers were unhelpful, but also because the students really were allowed to be defiant and outright rude to faculty and other students with little or no punishment. (I even witness students cuss at teachers with no repercussions) Also - SERIOUS drug problem. Students smoke and drink and get high on pills at school and almost never get caught.

I've taught at 12 of the 13 secondary schools in the Kent District, and of those 12, Kentlake is the only one with a serious attitude problem. The kids there act like they run the school, because they do. They have more power than the adults because the school is run so weakly. Example: I was talking to a security guard who said that security there never takes phones away from students by force. He said it could injure the student and that the students must be tiptoed around. Neither the adults nor students seem to realize its supposed to be the other way around. The result is a rude, defiant, dishonest student body despite their not being that way at the feeder middle schools. Test scores are OK, although they'd be higher if students cared and did their work honestly. Easily my least favorite school in the district since I love the other Kent schools.

I had to stop by Kentlake when the bell rang for the day to end. OOPS wrong time to be at a busy high school. I was pleasantly surprised that the students were polite and did not run me over to leave. The office staff was kind and helpful. Then it was time to leave along with 1600 students. I was again surprised at the polite way the drivers (mostly students) took turns. They drove carefully and even allowed people from a nearby housing development to merge. I was proud of the students!! Today was teacher conference; the teachers were well prepared and very nice. I met with my son's school counselor; she helped him arrange a class he needed. Wow, it was painless. I am thankful my son has the opportunity to attend KLHS!

3 of my children graduated or will graduate from Kentlake in the classes of '09, '10, and '11. Overall, I feel there are a few good teachers that care about student progress and one administrator that puts the students first . There is a new principal this year and it is too soon to tell if there will be any improvements. But, during the years my children were at Kentlake, there was a definite disconnect between administrators, teachers, and students. Numerous teachers made it very challenging for students to seek help from them, were apathetic when a student was struggling in class, and favoritism was prevalent at the school. Teachers were also allowed to dock a students grade for non-academic matters. I found this to be ludicrous and received no support from administrators when I attempted to address the issue. Academics are the only thing that should be reflected in a grade. I will say this, if you want to be an athlete, attend Kentlake. Sports and the athletes are favored here.
