This school doesn't care about the safety for kids at all. I've had friends and acquaintances alike deal with obvious bullying and/or sexual harassment experiences without a single punishment, with some of the teachers even encouraging it. Your experience in this school depends entirely on the teacher's and student's opinions on you. Don't try to report the bullying to admin, because then they'll tell you to ignore it until they stop, since that's easier than actually doing their job and making sure all kids feel safe and welcomed in a school that claims to do that despite several kids saying otherwise. There are also teachers who have made inappropriate statements towards kids, and are still employed here at Charles Town Middle School. If you want your kids to be safe and respected, send them to another school.

What stands out most is the caring atmosphere the staff genuinely looks out for the kids, and that makes a big difference. My son enjoys all his teachers this year.

Charles Town Middle School is absolutely the best school ever for my children! The moment they step through the doors, they are surrounded by a caring and enthusiastic staff who are genuinely invested in their success. Every day is filled with excitement as they are challenged to reach their full potential while being supported every step of the way. The teachers create a fun, engaging environment that makes learning feel like an adventure, and there are so many opportunities for my kids to explore their passions, whether its in academics, sports, or the arts. The sense of community is amazingmy children feel valued, respected, and excited to be part of a school that truly feels like a second home. Im beyond grateful for the wonderful experiences they are having at Charles Town Middle School!

Charles Town Middle School has evolved significantly over the years, as we have had two children attend this school (8 years ago and currently). As a family we have seen this school evolve tremendously from our first encounter with the school and our most recent. From our experience, the school culture has shifted and does a great job of focusing on students' well-being and academic success. Does this mean that all teachers are fantastic or there isn't a bad day? No it doesn't, but I'm not sure there is a school where those issues don't exist in the community. The staff that we have worked with were dedicated and worked tirelessly to ensure my student felt valued and supported, both in and out of the classroom. As a family, we are so thankful for the school's no cell phone policy as my now 7th grader is not absorbed with the phone during class time as I have seen others their age. The school's commitment to their staff and students continues to move in a positive upswing from our first experience with the school over 8 years ago. Overall, we feel that Charles Town Middle School stands out as a school that while very crowded, is a place that is focused on its students and their growth.

An absolute embarrassment to education. Teachers regularly take a "day off" to catch up on things while the students sit there and do absolutely nothing while the teacher sits at their desk.
Administration is unresponsive and does not address parent concerns.
Grades are inflated to keep parents "happy" meanwhile state test scores show a different story.
Explain how "advanced" students get A's and B's for 3 years and score in the 35 percentile of the state tests. Let me clue you in, no one is doing their jobs and the kids are paying the price. Sad sad state of affairs.
I know the teaching field has been wrecked by the pandemic and I am very sympathetic to their plight. I have many teachers in my extended family, I know the struggle.
Despite this, something drastic needs to change. Staff, funding, admin, all of the above.

The school is unsafe for minority students, and the school administration and school staff cannot be trusted.
Many children are suffering within the school district.

This is most incompetent staff Ive ever dealt with during my childrens year here. Chris Couglin is a major problem and needs to be removed immediately. The guidance department is concerningly incompetent.

Constant fighting, just one away from closing. Persistent bullying and social media threats. Teachers suspended for weapons and assaulting students. Staff that does not take these issues seriously.

I have no experience with the middle school. Jefferson County Public Schools, however are led by an uninspired bureaucrat whose most important quality has been keeping herself in business and who is now on her way out. She needs to be replaced with an educator with excellent academic qualifications from outside of WV. The bureaucrats under her all need to go as well. Jefferson County is emblematic of backward thinking, self serving WV bureaucracy. One previous high school principal and one middle school principal were shockingly bad choices. With smart middle class people moving in, this district should change. The attendance at board of education meeting is surprisingly poor.
