Poor leadership hurts this school as good teachers keep leaving because they aren't supported. The principals have their favorite teachers and students who can do whatever they want, but they don't seem to care about the rest. Lots of money is poured into athletics, but the teams still suck. Meanwhile, the arts programs and clubs are at a bare minimum, which might be why they have new teachers leading them every 2-3 years.

My daughter graduated from here in 2022, let me just say that they have no regards to your child's safety and fails to keep the campus safe. When my daughter was in her senior year a gunman was on campus looking for a student. My daughter told me that she was able to leave campus whenever she wanted because the security guards allowed her to leave and she considered them her friends. The staff will blame your child for any of the schools short comings and if you are being bullied they don't care and will most likely say its your kids fault if they are.

Lack of communication with parents, and wont upload grades in a timely manner. I cannot effectively know how my child is doing if I am depending on ParntVue entries that haven't been updated for 2 months at a time.

And then if your child is failing to do work they dont even call you until the end of the semester by then its too late and your child is playing catch up. when i mentioned this the english teacher told me that it was on me to correct it and I asked him how do I motivate my child to do work while in the classroom and he seemed perturbed

One teacher advsed me that she has 320 students and cant call every parent because she has a life too, WOW the teachers are just here to get a paycheck not to motivate YOUR child or to help your child to push up to the avg median

very very discouraging, the school is very discriminating towards special needs children and do not work to alleviate parent concerns. I have had teachers talk to me in a deragatory way regarding my children and even a vice principal laugh at me i filed a complaint with the district and he is no longer there however the new principal is very discriminating to people not of her culture you can see it in her body language which is why she stays in her office and has every one else deal with the students or parents but as you can see from the schools ratings they are behind the par of sub par schools so when does the district take action on a school with a failing record (even thier sports teams are below subpar)

Ever since the new Principal has been there we have seen a shift in priority and concern. Students and parents no longer feel heard. As much as they state academics is important they are allowing many struggling students to continue to have the privilege to play sports. The AD is not friendly at all has not once take the time to get to know any parents. My kids thrive because of what we instill in them, but do not feel supported by the Administration

My school is a very great school. We are the only school that jumped 9% in our writting scores. Why, because our principal is amazing. He makes programs that are right for you. He will have after school tutoring. Not only that but we have amazing coaches and teachers, Our soccer team is the second best team in state. Why, again because our principal hires the best coaches and teachers. Also, i have never met a person that cares so much for their student. You can tell how much he loves his kids, he will be in campus to hang out with the studenst to socialize. It is rare to find a principal like him. He is the perfect principal anyone can ask for.

Copper Canyon is a great school thanks to Mr Potts. A principal involved in every aspect of the school. I have seen him attending Aztec games, and competitions after hours, or on weekends, taking time away from his family to support the students, because he cares. He held meetings one Saturday a month "Coffee with Potts", to talk to parents, get to know us, ask questions or rise our concerns. We respectfully ask the District Superintendent and the Board to reconsider their decision and renew Mr. Potts' contract. The students need him. AZTECS ASPIRE, AZTECS ACHIEVE.

As I first attended this school was In 2007 that yeas wasn't forgetful or none was it the best time of my high school years, a lot of fights and no one cared for that school at all.. as I was approaching my senior year Mr. Potts became the principal that school felt like a home and somewhere safe to be at, he cared for his students he made us feel like we can succeed and graduate. I attended games and etc events that went on at the school I always seen him through and supported the after school activities. He made copper canyon a better place I could proudly say that my senior was the best. because he bought to the school so much pride and spirit no one was scared to go to school. because he made it feel like home and no one else did.

Copper Canyon is one of a kind School, and that is all because of our beloved principal Mr.Potts determination to make our school the best it can be. He Motivates us all to do better, he believes in us. And unlike all other principals, Mr.Potts works hard to keep students in school and not giving up on us and just kicking us out of school. I couldn't have asked for a better principal to run our school, he is like a second dad to all of us who attend Copper Canyon and we won't let him go, not now, not never. Copper Canyon High School has changed for the better with our amazing principal, Mr.Potts. Ever since Mr.Potts became principal at Copper he changed the whole school around. How did he do it? He believed in his students. Without the students Copper wouldn't be a school, obviously. He changed us, he made sure that we knew that we are going to be successful and the only way we would be is if we changed our "bad' ways. Now we have higher test scores compared to before, our sports got way better and everything is great when having Mr.Potts. The Tolleson District School Board is making a mistake letting Mr.Potts go. Why take a out a great principal when he has done nothing wrong? WE NEED MR.POTTS. Taking him from us is just going to change Copper back to its bad ways. WE ARE HIS AZTECS!

I am so proud to be a copper canyon student and to have been taught to be a true aztec; courteous, commited, helpful and safe. It has made me more confident and hopeful for moving on in life like getting on the right track for college starting with good grades and a positive attitude. Moreover, I appreciate my teachers and all their hard work they have put in for me and my future but most of all I want to thank Mr. Potts. He has done everything with love and passion and even someone blind can realize this just by feeling his presence. He puts out something special to all copper canyon students that motivates us all for hope and achievement. He has always taught us to be courteous by being generous to others; commited by doing our school work and aspiring for those A's; helpful by helping others on campus, doing food drives and donations for poor people in Az in need and finally; safe by staying in school and joining extra curricular activities to distract us from the temptations. This school is everything it is today thanks to our principal Mr.Potts. He is the most dedicated principal, in advancing his students, I have ever had and I'm positive many more agree. His preporation and willingness is beyond what I expected in highschool when I first enrolled and copper canyon. I Am Currently A Junior At Copper Canyon, I Have Recently Started In August My First Year At Copper As An Aztec ! I Have Never Felt The Way I Feel About Copper Canyon, It Is Not Just Going To School But It Is My Home. Copper Has Been A School That Anyone Just Feels Comfortable To Be At... The high rating that I'm giving this school is based solely on the fact that it has been continuously improving over the past few years under the watchful eye of a very devoted and kindhearted principal. Without him there, this school wouldn't so much as be on anyone's radar. Tolleson Union High School district is making a huge mistake trying to get rid of this man.

Ever since I first entered Copper Canyon it felt like home. I had a relative who worked there before I was attending and she absolutely hated it. She would come home complaining about the disrespectful students and the dangerous environments. I've been attending Copper since my freshman year and I'm a senior. The year I started my freshman year was the same year Mr.Potts was starting too. I can imagine just as I was afraid of something new, Potts was too. But I was determined to better myself and Potts was determined to better our staff, students and community. Coppers days consisted of constant fighting, uncontrollable behavior and very poor acedemincs but when Potts entered, everything changed. Mr.Potts got rid of most if not all drug gangs, lowered the number of fights to VERY few and created a SAFE and FRIENDLY place for ALL students. He became our "adoptive father", guiding us each step of the way. Potts completely changed Copper for the BETTER. District will NEVER understand the kind of person he is because they are never there, treating him like the students do. We all know that the real reason for letting him go was NOT work related. So district, whats your justification?

The past few years under the head of their most recent principal have been a complete night to day transformation. The student body is united, test scores have improved, and the school is such a healthy place for students to be. Copper Canyon High School has improved and changed since the last time I visited after I graduated. It has changed and improved because of Alan Potts. I am extremely disappointed with the fact that the Tolleson Union District refuses to renew his contract with the school, for some unknown reason. They do not understand how important Mr. Potts was, and still is, to this school. He made it his duty to get to know each and every student, and do whatever it takes to help them succeed and achieve greatness. Mr. Potts changed the attitude of these kids, and made them want to learn. Isn't that what most schools want out of their students? I'm sure the past/present students will agree with me that Alan Potts was the best principal for this school, and it saddens me that this is happening to a good man.

Class of 2012 were his babies, we were his first graduate class and he was so proud of us all. Mr. Potts is a great, genuine, intelligent, down to earth man. Hr feserves to keep his job. Being able to attend CChs while Mr. Potts was there, was truely amazing. Not only was our school becoming better, but our education was improving. I went to copper canyon all four years of high school and had two different principals. However, only one actually took the time to get to know me and my friends. Not because we were troublemakers or star students, but because he actually care about ALL his students! Mr. Potts turned that school around so much in just his first year I can't imagine they change he's made now that he's had a few more years. I am a parent of 2 graduate's from CCHS while Mr.Potts was the principle for the school. I have to say he is a very good role model for students, and always encouraging his students to do their best and to never quit! Both my kids moved on to college's (ASU AND U of A) my oldest is graduating from U of A this year, 1 year ahead of schedule!! Why am I posting this ....this is part of Mr. Potts encouragement of excellent guidance , and "open door" policy to all students to come in and talk if they needed. As well as I was ALWAYS impressed by the way he knew every child's name whom he had seen while walking on campus.(during my children's years of school) It's very sad for myself and my children whom are not even at the school no longer, to see this happen to such a good man. As a parent of 3 children that have attended Copper Canyon I want to provide my full 100% backing behind Mr. Alan Potts Principal. We started without Potts and it was below par, i spoke to Potts before enrolling my 1st daughter and it was his first year and he asked I give him a yr and wow... The changes he made to the school were immediate. My daughter graduated as Senior class president, enrolled in every sport and activity she could throughout her high school career. Potts went to just about every activity and supported The Aztecs. He made the school a family, a real true family were each student supported each student, were each sport pumped up the other sports. Every time he saw me, he would come up and give me a hug and gave me his personal attention. He remebered each of my kids names and my name. Mr Potts is amazing and I personally am sickened to see him go. I have the last of my children there as a freshman and without him it just wont be the same. Copper canyon students thrive with Mr Alan Potts. AZTECS ASPIRE. AZTECS ACHEIVE.

I attended this school from 2007-2011. I was greatly involved in the school. CCHS was my second home. I can honestly say that my last year at Copper Canyon was the best by far. This was year Alan Potts became our principal. So many people were thrilled with the change and it was noticeable. Mr. Potts effectively changed the atmosphere around campus and developed school pride. I remember seeing Mr. Potts (even before becoming principal) at many of the athletic events and performing arts shows. He was always supportive and enthusiastic for student achievements. This was a great way to end my high school experience. I have visited the school several times since and have been very glad to see the continuous improvements. Copper Canyon always had the potential for great things, it just took the right person to make it a reality. KEEP ALAN POTTS!

My five stars is based on the fact that the principle has not only changed my children's lives by inspiring them to achieve all that they can. My daughter graduated from there and I felt very confident sending my other two children there now with him gone I am pretty positive my boys will no longer be attending copper canyon. We want our children to learn and grow and be proud of what they accomplished and now they realize that because of a mistake Tolleson Union High School District has made they will no longer have the inspiration of an amazing principle to lead them.

Copper Canyon High School has improved immensely over the years thanks to the great staff, especially principal Alan Potts. He cares deeply for all students by attending numerous school events, supporting all clubs and sports and ultimately taking the time to talk with students and bringing the meaning of school spirit back to Copper Canyon. These qualities resonate strongly with this principal and unfortunately are hard qualities to find. This school is not only losing an outstanding principal but everything Copper Canyon has grown to be and no prinicipal will be able to fill in the shoes of such an incredible, genuine man and do the great things he has done for Copper Canyon over the years.

Copper canyon is ranked 5 stars due to our loved principal, Mr.Potts. He has guided Copper Canyon from its bad habits to the greatest achievements that have been accomplished today. I use to go to CCHS , and Pott's was always my biggest supporter!!! He helped that school stay safe and successful! How can you let him go and not even let me explain what he has done for not only the school but for his students! The district will regret this, everyone says that the kids don't know anything and won't understand! We don't have to understand anything! I am a graduate and unfortunately was only able to have the honor and pleasure of knowing Mr. Potts for one year, but in that year, attending classes and being part of this family was actually enjoyable as well as humbling. Seeing the true passion and concern being displayed for all of potts students was a welcomed and unfamiliar change. Prior to his leadership you had to be cautious heading from class to class due to constant race wars, drug dealers in the restrooms, and even bomb threats, so much to the point that the administration office felt the need to call students and urge them to stay home. In my last year in attendance at copper canyon Mr Potts made it his priority to give students and parents their piece of mind back and even motivated students to try harder and put forth the effort to better themselves. Allen Potts is a good man, and with out doubt one of the most kind hearted and selfless individuals you could ever hope to meet, and as far as the district's decision, I can say without hesitation that they are making a serious mistake. If they follow through with their pompous crusade to ruin the best thing about this school, he will nit be forgotten and deeply missed.

I am currently A student at copper canyon high school and I absolutely love it. The principal and the teachers amaze me on how much they care. I've attended copper for 3 years now and have seen so many changes and improvements all because of Mr.Potts (the principal). People at our school respect Potts because of how much he has done for us , he made our school feel like our home. He attends all sporting events (correct me if I am wrong) but most of the sporting events for copper canyon I've went to I have seen him there. He motivates us to achieve and accomplish our goals. Mr.Potts is the only person on campus who actually cares , whenever he sees a student he will say hi and ask how out day is going and he is the only one that does that. We are a better school because of him . He is out rock. His encouragement and his big heart is why I love attending copper canyon high school , if it's one thing it is because of that man.

I currently go to Copper Canyon High School and I love it! Everyone is so nice and welcoming! My freshmen year I attended Westview most of the year it was horrible! And they talked a lot of smack about other schools, so I moved to Basha since we were moving houses temporally. I guess the school was okay but it just wasn't for me. I joined the stunt team and I liked it, but at a competition we were competing against Copper Canyon, and my gosh they were so good! And they stand out from different schools they had the most people and they were stealing the spotlight, so when we moved we moved closer to CCHS and I instantly joined the team and they treated me like a family. Now we qualify to compete at the highest cheering competition in the US. The soccer team is so good as well! The currently rank #13 in the US and #2 in AZ. Although football is not the best thing for the school since they lose mostly ever game, Copper Canyon is a school they you want to join if your into athletics. I love my team and wouldn't trade them for the world <3! #Aztecforlife

504 Plan at Copper Canyon???? Do the teachers know about Plan 504??? I gave up my child's rights. It is really sad for parents and kids who need to be protected by Plan 504 at this school. My son was supposed to take tests in a private room. This never happened.

If you want to know what's wrong with public education in AZ, just study this school. Massive pressure on teachers to pass students NO MATTER WHAT! Direct quote from administrator; "We're not in the business of giving life lessons! If you give a kid a failing grade, you're not teaching them a lesson, you're just lowering their self-esteem." They would rather get a signature from a counselor saying they can graduate a student who does not read, as opposed to actually teaching that student to read! Go see for yourself. Don't let the administrators lead you about by the nose showing you what they want you to see--they are masters of PR and spin. Drop in unannounced or shadow your student for a day. You won't have to look long or hard to see the disturbing truth.

Although the school has been bad in the past, the school has made a complete 360 degree change including stricter rules and a faculty that cares and helps the students. this is now one of the best schools out there all thanks to the principal and the school spirit of the students. this school used to be known for fights but now the students are actually trying to prevent fights!

is by far the worst school I have ever been to. The faculty is downright malicious, the teachers don't care at all, and I have never seen so many troubled kids. The students have no respect for themselves or each other. Everyday I would see people on drugs, or talking about sex, and the teachers didn't notice at all. The teachers definitely play favorites, and if your not one of the select few then school becomes miserable. The office staff and faculty members seem to want to find the bad in everybody, even falsely accusing the good-moralled students. In the month I spent at DM I learned nothing academic whatsoever, even in advanced classes. This school is absolutely a joke and I would not recommended it for anyone.

I am currently a student at Copper Canyon. I have been there my entire high school career. Unfortunately, in the society we live, people seem to only acknowledge the negative about something, and that is exactly what has happened with Copper. Yes it is true that in previous years the violence at the school was at a much higher level than it should have been, but this past school year brought along significant changes. The new administration cracked down on discipline, as well as attendance. Academics wise, the school offers a pretty decent selection of classes. The AP program has expanded quite a bit. And it's not as if having certain AP classes depends on the school, it depends on the number of students that sign up to take an AP course. School spirit is also a big issue, but in a world where, for some odd reason, football seems to be the most important sport, its hard to have school spirit when you have a team that has only won a single game in the past two years. However, our other sports do help. Soccer being regional champs two years in a row, Baseball winning regionals last year and making it to the playoffs this year. Yes Copper is different, but it isn't a bad school.

I am a student that is currently attending copper canyon. I love this school, its has changed so much with our new principal. People may say its a bad school and even academicaly. But our school staff teachers are very smart, and help us acheive our goal in learning more in eduaction.. They go throughout their way to help us and care for us when we need them the most. I have grown out through copper canyon. Not them only them watching me grow, but as me watching them grow into a school that has achieved beyond my standards. We are aztecs,We aspire and we acheive. Not only because of us, but as a school that brings the students together and focuses on our main goal of sucess. Lets go aztecs!

I'm concerned with the high number of poorly written reviews by students and parents saying how wonderful this school is. Judging by the grammar, punctuation, and writing skills, I would guess this school is sub-par. If the school were so great, why can't anyone write complete sentences?
