We had to find a school quickly to enroll my 7th grader in and Fusions came to the rescue. Within 24 hours they gave us a tour, assessed him and started him in classes. The one on one attention was fantastic and my son likes to learn again. He was able to complete his homework with a tutor there answering any questions he had. He met great friends and we always felt safe dropping him off. The school was super communicative and flexible. They even did a fun grad night at Universal Studios and he had a blast and again, we felt super safe. I would highly recommend this school!

I was given absolutely none of what was promised to me when I decided to attend this school. I received almost no support, and a sheer lack of effort from teachers to properly teach, as many of my classes were 20 or so minutes of talking about completely unrelated things, going over the homework for the class for about 10 minutes, and then sitting in silence as I complete the homework that was supposed to be done separately. I learned more at a public school of 1,900 kids. The communication was absolutely awful as I had to constantly go back in forth between staff simply to take a test, while everyone just avoided what needed to be scheduled, as getting even the most simple things scheduled or placed was so ridiculously frustrating, and it was so obvious that none of the teachers here have real genuine experience, as lessons plans were nonexistent, the actual material I learned every day was next to none, and my teachers had almost no clue what they were even supposed to be teaching me that day when I walk into class. Getting anything done with staff was so difficult and such a waste of time. Overall I was so overwhelmed and anxious and sad with this school's treatment, and it’s so obvious that none of the people working there have any experience with kids that have any mental illnesses or disorders, especially anxiety and overall social awkwardness. I have had multiple breakdowns and panic attacks over the actions of teachers and students alike, and classes were such a miserable experience. The students were obnoxiously loud, and trying to focus on anything on campus was impossible. I switched to online because of just how hard it was to get anything done around the teachers and students, and the semester I was there was one of the worst experiences I’ve ever had at a school. It was completely miserable and I never want to do anything like it ever again. This school is not worth your money in any capacity, and so many other private schools are worth your time and effort. Please don’t even consider this school as a long-term option for your kids, the overall result will be disastrous.

Futures Academy - San Diego was recommended to our family by one of its current students at the perfect time! My daughter was struggling in public schools even though her past schools have always been very highly rated schools in the Poway School District. The flexible yet accountable environment at Futures is perfect for her! The Head of the School, Carol, is awesome and all of the teachers and staff are incredible. I never thought I'd hear my daughter say she actually "loves her school" - she is a walking commercial for Futures San Diego. I love how her teachers, like Mr. Bliss, take a vested interest in her success and encourage her to be her best. The 1:1 student/teacher ratio fosters great learning at the student's pace and level, and she is now getting straight A's when she was getting straight F's at her former schools. I realize the school is a cost and a sacrifice, but I consider it the best investment I could possibly do for my daughter's FUTURE!

Outstanding school! Teachers, staff and administration are fantastic and they really know what they are doing. Students really learn at Futures Academy and cover so much material.

Students are able to complete homework in guided study with a certified teacher available to assist and tutor them. Parents are given daily updates as to homework assigned and when students complete it.

Teachers are well trained and have experience working with students who have learning differences. They are innovative in their approach and are effective in teaching. Teachers do a fantastic job in working with students and parents to figure out the best approach to teaching.

Our experience at Futures Academy has been terrific. The one-on-one teaching works great, and with the pandemic, it was an easy transition to online learning (where he is actually able to learn).

The program is set up as one one one classes (one teacher, one student) with time after the class to do homework with another teacher. System works great; our child almost never has homework to do at home.

Our son really enjoys his education at Futures. The schedule flexibility, 1:1 teaching method with committed teachers who really get to know him, the available homework and assignment support, and the depth of engagement he's able to have in his courses have all contributed to a really positive high school experience.

It's gratifying to see the strides he's making in terms of his academic performance, his excitement for learning and his interest in the next level in coursework.

My son was failing in public high school and did not turn in any work.. We enrolled him at Futures at the beginning of his Sophmore year. At first he followed the same pattern as he had in public. Now he is involved and it seems he has turned around. He is doing all his assignments.

In public school my son was harassed as he was one of very few black students. At Futures, all of the students respect other students and staff.

There is no bullying. It is not allowed and strictly monitored by staff. It is strange but all of the students are respectful, friendly, supportive toward each other. My son had trouble with social skills and coming out of his shell and within one day, loved the school. .

Administration demonstrates that every student must be treated with respect, and that there's no room for bullying. That serves as an excellent example for students. The school provides opportunities for students to volunteer at community events.

Leaders and administrators show concern for students and parents. Early in our experience (2016) there were some glitches with communication. However, we've seen tremendous improvement. On the few occasions when we've any kind of issue, it's been resolved quickly and professionally, always with the students' best interests in mind.

Our son entered mid-way through his freshman year. He started out at our district high school, but there were academic and social challenges that made it impossible for him to succeed there, in spite of an IEP and extra support. He left with failing grades and overwhelming stress.

He's now a senior, on track to graduate with his peers, because he moved to Halstrom. He has thrived under the one-teacher-to-one-student model. His teachers approach the material in a way that works for him, and engage in discussions rather than lecture. Additionally, the small student body creates a warmer, more accepting environment where he feels comfortable.

Our experience with teachers and staff has been excellent. They make themselves available to us for questions and updates, and have been very flexible regarding our scheduling requests. On the very few occasions when we've a concern, they have been responsive and professional.

For us, Halstrom has been the right fit. It's hard to imagine our son doing better at another school.

The amount and type of homework depends on the level of class; for example, College Prep vs Workshop. Obviously, College Prep is much more rigorous. With only one class meeting per week the focus on homework extremely important. This is key when considering this school. We've found that teachers do a good job of making themselves available for questions or clarification before the next class meeting.

Because there's one teacher to one student, teachers are able to present material in a way that works best, and to discuss it in more depth. We've also found them to be very good at communicating and updating us regarding our son's progress.

Be very careful with this school. Though it may be satisfactory for some students, the most important thing to remember is that the number one goal of the school is to make a profit, NOT to assist your child. The communication level at the school is extremely disappointing despite promises to the contrary. I was not notified of the necessity of extra classes for my student until I supposedly owed a significant amount of money. Then the administration, all the way up to the CEO of Futures in Education, the parent company for Halstrom, did their very best to ignore and dismiss my phone calls. Again, just be very careful with this school and do not expect them to put your child first even though you are paying exorbitant amounts of money to them. This school appears to be particularly ill suited to students that are not completely self-motivated and on task even though the administration promises otherwise. Which if your student can be described that way, why pay the ridiculous prices of Halstrom when there are plenty of free options available?
