The Grauer School has been extraordinary for our two sons - both at the Middle School and High School levels. The teaching faculty is outstanding - highly educated and very intelligent, excellent at teaching and connecting with students, supportive of students' learning, and very nurturing. Our sons have been challenged across the board in advanced, college preparatory classes. At the same time, their courseload has never been overwhelming or overly stressful. Grauer encourages and values students' outside passions. Our sons have been able to balance their athletic schedule with schoolwork and school activities. They delight in and enjoy going to The Grauer School. As a parent, when I am on campus, it seems that all of the students, faculty, and staff are thriving and truly happy. We highly recommend The Grauer School for students in 7th through 12th grades.

Do not recommend. Teachers are rude and mainly give out busywork. They did not make learning fun. Would rather go to a huge school for free than a tiny one that is way too expensive.

Our daughter graduated from Grauer. She went on to College where she played tennis and graduated from Bates undergraduate and USC grad school. She was never afraid to contribute in class, interact with her professors, take on leadership roles and pursue her passions. These were some of the values she acquired by attending Grauer. The Grauer School is student centered and approaches teaching through socratic discussions, project and expeditionary learning. The teachers are exceptionally kind hearted and trained with a background of exemplary academic achievement and service (i.e. AmeriCorps, Peace Corps or other). All these qualities of The Grauer School facilitate students motivation, confidence and success in learning. The small school benefit is a clique-free environment that encourages students to interact and befriend not only the students in their grade but the other students not necessarily like themselves in grade or interests. I see this as an incredible gift for their future. It raises a comfort level in allowing students to unselfconsciously try out their interests whether it be theatre, music, archery or other.
Step on the campus and you will get a feel for the environment both the beautiful setting and buildings and the happy friendly vibe from the students as they make their way around campus.

Our daughter's experience at Grauer has been beyond exceptional. We have been impressed time after time with the school's organization and rigor that is balanced with unique and enriching experiences that incorporate life skills, community outreach, expeditions, and fun! The teachers are top-notch and responsive to students' needs and parent communication. The after-school/extracurricular activities are engaging and entertaining, so much so that our daughter wants to stay at school late nearly every day of the week. Likewise, the athletic program is run with an equal balance of competitive sport and team spirit. Overall, we could not be happier with Grauer's incredible teaching philosophy that goes beyond academic achievement. Personal integrity, character, compassion, aptitude, and passion are all a high priority, and this emphasis, which is delivered by competent and caring teachers, yields incredible results and instills an innate love of learning.

Grauer inspires kids and the staff is so warm and welcoming. You have the ability to connect and be intrigued in subjects that would not be possible in a 40 person class. The arts program is something that engages even those who never played to pick up an instrument.

Leans hard on teacher/parent relationships and that made all the difference in my kid's approach to school and life. Somehow gets the necessary educational aspects through in a very unstructured manner so that kids find confidence in their own way. It's a pretty kickass school.

They genuinely care about each student. I know it sounds trite but I assure you it is authentic. They use creative ways to teach, to encourage peer review and peer explanation, relevancy in current life and adult life.

Real Integrity is doing the right thing, knowing that nobody is going to know whether you did it or not. These kids are raised knowing that every action is a reflection of who they are, their character and who they want to be in the world. From helping their junior classmates, to the environment; these young people learn that every thing they do has an impact-- and that each action should be purposeful and authentic.

Look no farther than to see the faculty who have been here for DECADES; when they could go anywhere from here. It is the investments made by leadership to provide a wonderful environment, with goals but not micromanagement.

There are things for EVERY Student. Because it is NOT a cookie cutter education. There are State of CA requirements and standards necessary for graduation and/or college-- but not every student will be successful every subject. My child had a terrible foundation for high school math from her previous schools, and the math department teachers; not just HER teacher, but also the DEAN, developed different approaches to learning and using the material to ways that clicked with her particular learning style. She is NOT a STEM student, but for the first time in 11 years, she is not afraid of math or science. Because of GRAUER.

Coming from a public school where our kid was bullied mercilessly; we almost didnt expect there to be a difference. But we were wrong. Classmates are valued-- not material items, or sports prowess. Kindness is the number one foundation here and it shows. They never say anything negative about others, even their arch rivals. The students are taught to be rigorously honest.

Homework is an adjunct to the lesson taught, not just busy work. It is cohesive, consistent and follows logically with the class day, the unit, and underscores the lesson, not busy work nor frustration work. Students are encouraged to work with the teachers to get the concept and process rather than just simply "producing a correct answer." Homework supplements the education not replaces it.

Grauer SAVED MY CHILDS LIFE. Literally. It is worth more than all of the things I could ever want in the world. It is worth every moment and every dollar we spend here. She went from being scared, shy, depressed, insecure to confident, curious, loving, compassionate, and engaged. I only wish we knew about it sooner.

Our son is absolutely thriving in his high school experience at the Grauer School. When anyone asks him how high school is going, he honestly tells them "I love it". The smaller class sizes work well for him, the teachers are wonderful, the classes are rigorous and interesting, he has made some great friends and on top of it all, he can take surf PE! We are verry happy to be a Grauer family.

My son started going to Grauer this year and he is thriving beyond our expectations. His fellow students are some of the brightest, kindest, most talented teenagers I have ever met. As a parent, I have peace of mind that this is the environment that my son will have as he goes through his teenage years. The staff, and leadership team are equally phenomenal. Continuously engaged and genuinely caring, the teachers go above and beyond to support the students. A unique and exceptional educational experience.

Honestly, there's no school like Grauer. Our daughter loves her teachers, loves the curriculum, loves and appreciates how all the kids get along. It's amazing. The teachers truly connect individually with the students, and they support and guide them through these complex years. At the same time, the kids are encouraged to be independently resourceful, a core value that is so necessary for college success. The curriculum works out-of-the-box with its varying hands-on and creative projects and experiential trips, yet also includes more traditional schooling work such as worksheets, quizzes, tests. It's a great balance. The English program is amazing--these kids write, write, and write! Science involves a lot of hands-on labs and critical thinking. The school encourages kids to be vibrant, creative, entrepreneurial, connective, thoughtful, confident thinkers and people. Self-advocacy is another encouraged core value (along with compassion, intellectual curiosity, etc.), meaning the kids learn to speak up and take responsibility for their work, self, questions, organization, planning, etc. Music and the arts are incorporated with substance, rather than sidelined. A wonderful, magical place to be.

I'm a new student at the Grauer School and I've never been to a school where kids love it so much. The teachers are really awesome and the community is really close.
