Our family absolutely loves Oceanside Adventist Elementary School. The teachers are truly amazing — caring, dedicated, and genuinely invested in each child’s growth both academically and personally. You can tell they love what they do, and it shows every day.

The school has a wonderful sense of community, and our son feels supported, encouraged, and excited to learn. We’ve seen such positive changes since enrolling him here.

Honestly, our only regret is not finding this school sooner. We’re so grateful to be part of such a great environment and highly recommend Oceanside Adventist Elementary to any family looking for an exceptional school with great teachers and strong values.

This school is not what it seems like, People bully a lot and one time my friend got beat up by girls, 2 other girls got caught vaping in the bathroom, people curse and say the n word to other kids (they got suspended fortunately) This school can do way better. I enjoy my friends, but teachers seem to have favorites towards the girls and smart people. I have seemed to be picked on by teachers by not listening to my side and usually assuming they are right. OAE, you can do better.

the school was ok I was a student there but I was bullied saying I was short and puny and weird. (I was 4'8 at 9) now I'm 5'3 anyways they always bullied me and I hated going there. the teacher was nice but overall I really disliked the school.

I really loved the small Christian school. My children were integrated immediately into their classes. I feel the teachers worked closely with them having a manageable number of kids in the classroom. I like how the older kids were connected to the younger kids in some activities and how my kids were given responsibilities that would help them become leaders.
I would highly recommend the school.

I love OAE! This school has a dedicated staff and exciting events like their annual Thanksgiving Feast and Christmas Bazaar. This year the 5th - 8th grade had an Author's Night. Students read their books to an audience; it really made their writing meaningful. Students have the opportunity to gain confidence in public speaking.

Our two students have enjoyed their four years at OAE! They love their friends and teachers. Their learning is paced appropriately for their age and developmental levels. We see noticeable growth in both of our children. We appreciate that there are fun social and spiritual activities for the entire family, and we have all made lasting friendships by being a part of the OAE community!

Since our first daughter started Kindergarten, we have appreciated how OAE has welcomed our family and helped our kids blossom as they enter school. The teachers and staff are incredibly caring, and we feel confident that our kids are being challenged academically as well as in all other areas of a well-rounded life. They have fun and love school! We are so thankful for this gem of a school in North County!

At Oceanside Elementary, everyone's treated like a star, and not the kind that requires three hours of makeup. We're talking genuine, shining-on-their-own-merit kind of stars. It's like the school is the nurturing director that brings out the best performance in every kid) I've been sending my two daughters here since pre-k and it's been one of the best decisions we made for their education. There is great opportunities for parents to be involved and the teachers are awesome)

This review is for their handling of Covid 19. The principal listened to parent concerns regarding the Virus and developed an safe and effective solution to allow the students to continue their education. Classrooms were equipped with cameras so students could choose to stay home or attend in-person. The teachers were extremely accommodating and worked seamlessly with families choosing to stay home as well as teaching regular classes. They enacted consistent safety protocols which have allowed the school to remain open and have prevented any outbreaks of the virus. This school should have been a model for other schools attempting to open. I couldn’t be more thankful for the reasonable and common-sense approach OAE took to ensure continuity of education for our children. I’m so grateful for the administrators and teachers of this precious school. The teachers possess such positive attitudes and provide such a loving environment for the students. Fine values and character are modeled and reinforced at OAE, we are very lucky to have this as an option to pubic school.

I love that my kids don't have a ton of homework. I think it's important to give kids time to decompress after school and not be bogged down with busy work. My kids have up to an hour of homework a day - which is reasonable to me.

Posted: December 16, 2019

Teachers are so flexible - working with kids at different skill levels. I love that they are so hands-on and provide different working styles to suit the kids. I feel like my kids get way more attention at OAE than they did in their former Montessori school.

Posted: December 16, 2019

OAE focused on Christ-centered values, which I absolutely love. My kids are taught and encouraged to be compassionate, understanding and loving. The big buddies program is a perfect example of this. The 7th and 8th grade students meet up weekly with K and 1st grade students for reading lessons, art work and even help on field trips.

Posted: December 16, 2019

Very happy with the principal and the staff. They have been fantastic at communication, keeping parents informed, and helping to progress the school forward.

Posted: December 16, 2019

I have a son with mild sensory processing disorder and the teachers have been fantastic in helping him to succeed in the classroom. The small class sizes help so much in giving teachers flexibility in helping kids with different learning styles.

Posted: December 16, 2019

We actually had a bullying experience with my one of my kids at the school, and the staff handled it well. They first worked with the bully to try to help him resolve the issue and find better ways to interact with other students, but when it happened again they asked him to leave.

Posted: December 16, 2019

Overall, we love OAE and I'm so happy my kids have a school where they feel like they're part of the family. That's more important to me than anything else. They focus a lot on building character and teaching values to the kids. The academics are fantastic too - with options to advance if you have kids who need more academically challenging curriculum. OAE also has an art program, music ministry, and extracurricular activities like soccer. My older children have enjoyed the electives that the school has offered the last few years like cooking, woodworking, photography, chess club, and calligraphy.

My kids have been attending OAE for a couple years now, following a friend who had done her research. In the first couple years it was difficult to gauge how much my kids were learning. My oldest is very shy and when prompted, she would have difficulty performing aloud such as reading. It wasn't until 3rd grade when we could actually see results, primarily from the ITBS tests. The test revealed my oldest was at the higher average range. The school overall was just above average. Now my oldest, still shy, has more confidence in her academics. Her current teacher assigns extensive handwriting assignments and I was impressed with the level in which my child was understanding and translating what she learned onto paper and also excelling in math. My younger child is more outgoing and excels in math primarily and I'm looking forward to see how his ITBS scores will be.
Looking back at my children's younger years, I appreciate each of the teacher's unique approach to teaching. The great thing about private school is it is not micromanaged by the government. The principal and school conference decides what will work best in each situation. The kindergarten teacher is loving, welcoming, inspiring, and creative. The first grade teacher is scientific, creative and encourages enjoying the outdoors. The second grade teacher strengthens or inspires any musical talents, community service, writing and math skills. And the list goes on.
Lastly, the church and the school have made substantial sacrifices that have made being able to afford sending our children to a private Christian school possible, so we are truly grateful. This is not a "rich" school in the monetary sense, but it is rich in the happiness, laughter, spiritual growth, love for learning and exploring, and trust in a Christian environment.
My children's academic success and confidence, thus far, is an indicator of how well this small school has slowly built a foundation that children can grow from.

Each teacher gives what is appropriate for their grade level but very aware of the need for family time and off time at home. The teachers are smart and know that learning doesn't just happen with a piece paper and a pen.

There were projects assigned for teaching time management, group projects, and day to day homework of what was not finished in class. I had no problem transitioning to high school after graduating from this school.

Posted: April 27, 2017

As a former student I can personally vouch for how amazing it is to have attended this school. I graduated from here and was very prepared for high school, where I was a member of the national honor society and varsity. I was a student of the current 4th grade teacher, who is very experienced and has her masters in education. The environment is like a family. Every teacher knew my name. Class sizes were small and I never lacked support when I needed it. Now I am a mom and have moved back to the area so that my kids can attend this school. ALL the teachers are credentialed, five have their masters. There are Fine Arts Fridays, small sports tournaments with other Adventist schools, weekly Chapels with student participation, and elective music classes after school. There's after school care available for parents who work. CALL AND ASK FOR YOURSELF! EVERYONE IS SUPER FRIENDLY!

Posted: April 27, 2017

Being a small school, I felt like any situations that arose were recognized by my teacher as they happened or before, she never needed to be notified about it afterwards. She would talk with us, let us cry (jr high girls), and pray with us.

Posted: April 27, 2017

Within reasonable limits all the teachers I know have made accommodations for students with special needs. But they will not hesitate to assist parents in finding outside help if their child needs it. I know several who personally have done this.

Posted: April 27, 2017

Each teacher understands what that grade needs and is capable of. A kinder needs more freedom than intense structure. A 3rd grade teacher understands that the children are more capable of sitting for longer periods... I think the teachers personalities fit their grade levels meticulously.

Posted: April 27, 2017

I have sent 4 children to this school. All are succeeding wonderfully in life and I attribute a lot of their successes to the opportunities that this school provided.
Numerous musical performances, art projects and learning in a loving, non judgmental way. They have left this school and even managed 4.00 GPAs in highschool ...which I attribute to the school being academically strong. I personally appreciated the way the teachers each were able to teach them at their individual levels... And finally, the sacrifices the church members, parents and non church members have made, make the tuition extremely AFFORDABLE.... in comparison to any other private school.

Posted: April 27, 2017

Private schools are not privy to a lot of special needs ammenities that public schools get provided them. But, I have seen through the years, accommodations made for special teaching needs... and also, I have seen teacher gently encourage parents to test and link them with specialist and schools for their specific needs...

Posted: April 27, 2017

Infortumatley, the school lost their faithful leader this year and she is missed. But, because they had to go on for the sake of the school and children ...they have and been blessed with the interim principal.. Mr. Harder... which has been a blessing.

Save your money and send your kids to a local school or seek out a public charter schools in North County like Phoenix Learning Center or Coastal Academy. This school is perfect if you are looking for a bible school with lots of scriptures studying all day. There is no technology, no art program, no music instrument, no PE, no science. It does provide a safe, environment for the kids. Hot lunch is prepared by volunteer parents. It's all 100% vegetation meals. They do have the after school day care, but then again, the entire school is like a daycare for working parents. Kids have fallen behind once they leave this school. The academics is not rigorous or challenging at all. It's really sad how this once great school has fallen below sub-par. Only 3 out of 9 teachers have credentials. The 2nd and 4th grade teachers should not be teaching at all. Complete wasted year for my kids. We moved schools and the kids tested way below their grade level. I am so upset I trusted this school to educate my kids. This school needs to do the kids a favor by closing down and saving all the parents the money. It's inevitable that they will close down within the next 4-5 years as enrollment dwindles.

Posted: April 19, 2017

The teachers' approach is to send the kids in a corner to stand by himself.

Posted: April 19, 2017

There is absolutely no services provided for IEP students, English learners, or any kind of learning differences.

Posted: April 19, 2017

There is currently no leadership at this school. The previous principal passed away and ever since then, the lack of leadership drove away all previous love and care for the students. This has created a problem of lack of accountability on the teachers.

Posted: April 19, 2017

Religion is heavily incorporated into every aspect of the school. And if you are not Adventist, it can be a challenge.

Posted: April 19, 2017

My kids never get homework. If homework is sent home, it's worksheets and never writing or projects.

Posted: June 19, 2014

We have attended OAE for a number of years. Our children have flourished and I am watching their character grow with each year. As Parents we all have different standards/expectations for our childrens academia. I also feel as parents we have to be realistic and supplement where we can. Our teachers are amazing, our principal is supportive and listens when we need her to. Each teacher has their special talent grown out of love for these kids and a love of God. If you want your children to have God in their hearts and have strong character traits, This is the school for you! If you want your children to achieve Rhode Scholarship, they may..because these kids are getting the foundations of academics needed ; but you will have to work a little too to make that happen.....The tuitiont is perfect, the parents are great and our Mascot is a Dolphin! What else could you ask for!

I agree with most reviewers that this is a great little school with several outstanding teachers. Unfortunately, I do not believe the principal is skilled in dealing with certain behavioral problems some children may have. Her communication with parents sometimes falls short. Also, her relationship with certain teachers clouds her judgment. In my opinion the second grade teacher has no business teaching. She is a sweet lady and loves music but those are not the credentials needed to teach. I feel second grade was a complete waste for our child and a waste of money. Other than the second grade teacher and the principal, I feel Oceanside Adventist is a fine school. However, a number of parents have changed schools following their experience in second grade. We are looking into changing schools, as well.

I relocated from DC for the express purpose of enrolling my daughter in OAE. The teachers are wonderful and friendly. They challenge the students to excel in their studies and they spend the time helping them understand the subject matter. It is a distinct pleasure to see the kids "want to go to school" because they love the teachers. Besides learning the basics, they receive a strong Christian foundation and a love for G-d that manifests itself in a Christ-centered lifestyle. Besides the basics, they offer musical training on instruments and in voice. I can think of no other school I would want my daughter to attend.
