Santa Fe Montessori School

A previous review stated that the school is under control by a family who is not local. Another reviewer complained about the administration. Well, those concerns are no longer an issue. Santa Fe Montessori will cease to exist after Summer 2015. The owners have sold the school to a Montessori chain called LePort. The LePort staff just had their "open house" on Saturday (April 18) to introduce the new faculty and administration which will be running things when the school opens as LePort in Fall 2015. So far, so good. I've enrolled my son, and am looking forward to seeing how the new owners & staff run things.

Santa Fe Montessori is no longer the great school it used to be. It used to be nearly impossible to get into this school because the waiting list was so long, but now 1/3 of the seats are empty, and when they tried to hire a 4-6th grade teacher with no Montessori training all of those students left, too. Now the school only goes up to 3rd grade (although if you ask I'm sure they will tell you that they go up to 6th, and will place your 4-6th grader in the same classroom with the 1st-3rd graders). The school and the board of directors are under the complete control of a family who lives thousands of miles away, and they've fired every board member and employee that threatened their financial interests, replacing them with puppets. There is a handful of really fantastic teachers, but they have little support from the administration and it's only a matter of time before they leave. It's a very sad situation.

The Junior 1 elementary program at SFMS is a joke. Half the kids in one of the classrooms have disabilities. The other classroom is staffed with teachers who are basically glorified public school teachers. You'd be better off saving your money and sending your kids to a public school. They'll learn more and will be with normal kids. They should stop calling themselves a Montessori school. They are not! Not once the whole year was my child given a presentation with Montessori materials. It's all math etc. from workbooks. Heck, I can teach my kid from workbooks at home!! This is place is second rate.
