The Childrens School continues to exceed our hopes in every way. After four years, our daughter is still beyond elated to go to school each morning, and never wants to leave campus at the end of the day. This incredible school is a place where each child is treated with the same respect paid to fellow adults. They are made to feel loved, cared for, seen for who they are, and celebrated for the uniqueness they each bring to the classroom. Most importantly, the way the curriculum is woven into each grade is fun, tailored to their interests, and teases their curiosity in an entirely collaborative environment. They are truly fostering life long learners. In addition to nurturing their intelligence, they focus on the whole-child. We are so proud to see an evolution of such empathy, care for others and inherent problem solving skills ingrained in our little girl, which we attribute largely to her TCS education. We are daily indebted to the talented and long-tenured Teachers, smart and attentive Administrative staff, and picturesque campus. TCS offers a magic thats better felt than explained!

We moved to The Children's School from public school last year, because we wanted to see if different school environment would work better for our son. Looking back, it was the best decision we have ever made, for our son and for our family. Children's school is a magical place, not just for its beautiful campus, but something that is much more important than that. What this school does is bring out the best in each and every child. Combination of a small class size (12 kids), amazing teachers and leadership work together in a beautiful harmony to make this happen. They find in every child something that is unique and then they foster it, which is one of the most important things an educational institution can do. Simply put, children there are taught to be become overall good human beings on every level. They have outstanding academics, while installing this magical ability to make kids feel empowered to pursue their passions in life. Teachers know that each child has different learning style and they incorporate various teaching methods that suit each child and that is one of the reasons why children thrive. If any disagreement were to happen between the kids, they are taught how to resolve conflict, teaching them invaluable life long learning skills. With that said, I have not heard of a single case of bullying or problematic behavior, as children feel safe and understood there. Another thing that speaks to TCS's success is that after graduating from their middle school, the students almost always get their top choice for high school, including some of the most competitive private schools in the area. This school has exceeded our expectations on every single level!

My son has been there 3 years now. He looks forward to each day, wanting to go early for Kids Club- a before and after-school time where students can play and do arts/crafts, read with the staff, play games while parents have to get to work. The staff before and after school is lovely and make kids feel part of the rooms.

I love how well known he is by his teachers- 12 per classroom the last two years. The kids learn to relate to each other in expressing their needs or in solving conflicts. Teachers will gather kids in conflict and have them talk until they can resolve their conflicts. They are patient and experienced. I think that is the most impressive part of the place. The faculty is innovative, playing off of student choice, and yet experienced. It's like the administration understands the importance of hiring experienced faculty who stay for years. You see it in the routines of the teachers, in the conferences and reports they write, and in the fact that their own children go to the school and are lovely kids. Teachers know his gifts on Day 1.

The school has some events in the year to bring the community together. Each Friday the parents can come to Community Meetings for the school and hear from a different class about what they are learning for the year. Kids lead the meeting, and they do the speaking throughout. Great Artists being the most impressive. Every classroom and grade studies a different artist and creates art inspired by him or her for a month. They have a night in April to celebrate in which every classroom becomes a room of an art museum with a different artist. They take another month in music to rehearse and perform songs for a whole school event in February.

My son has really progressed in reading this year and the math seems ahead of his public school friends. They recommended speech therapy for him early on, and he has been able to fix those issues with the right help. He also gets art, music, PE and Spanish and Science classes during the week. He does a couple after school activities with the school and loves the Kids Club if we can't get him at 3. We were lucky to stumble on this school when the public schools shut down. Even now the difference between this school and his larger local school otions is huge. The parent community is highly educated and fairly affluent, and they have been wonderful to get to know. Families I have met are from Poway, Del Mar, La Jolla, Clairemont, UC, La Mesa. Good people.

When our first child was about to start school in 2009, we sought a school that would be a home away from home for her. We wanted a school that values and espouses community and connectedness. We were elated to have found The Childrens School. Today, 15 years and 4 children later, we are so blessed to still call The Childrens School our childrens second home. All four of our children began The Childrens School in the Toddler program at two years old. Thus far, two of them graduated at eighth grade and were primed and more than prepared to attend the high schools of their choose. We are so happy to have two more children still attending The Childrens School. Nestled in the heart of La Jolla, the Children's School embodies the essence of Reggio Emilia-inspired education, fostering a vibrant community where connectedness, creativity, and child-centered learning flourish. Hosting a drive-in movie fundraiser this year was the most memorable moment I have had at TCS. The fact that my class was able to propose an idea to faculty, get it approved, and have support throughout the community is a part of this school that is truly amazing.

I am looking forward to making new friends, trying out different classes, and challenging myself in high school next year.

TCS has taught me to always challenge myself academically and to be generous towards others.

I am extremely grateful that I have had the chance to go to The Children's School, not only has it prepared me for high school next year but it has also created an environment where I have learned to create and cherish bonds with my peers and teachers.

TCSLJ has devolved in the past five years.

The child-led curriculum lessens as children enter middle school. In fact, kids are given less autonomy, fewer choices and curriculum is less focused on social emotional education just when more social-emotional issues arise.

Leadership is defensive, controlling, rejecting collaboration from students, teachers and parents. The head of school shapes the school and it has become less creative, provides fewer opportunities for individual expression. He sorely lacks knowledge of middle schoolers development and their respective challenges. Tween/teen mistakes are met with shaming; conversely, blatant cheating is ignored. Expectation, encouragement & warmth disappear in 6th grade.

Look closely at the specialty teachers, teachers hired from outside agencies, and in particular, the so called social-emotional curriculum. Ask the older students what theyve learned, actually learned, without parroting the schools prescribed talking points. Ask about students relationship with teachers. Ask about teacher turn over. The school unravels at a certain point.

Hindsight, I would have chosen another middle school experience for my teen.

The Children's School has an incredible atmosphere. They have been nothing but accommodating during this otherwise complicated year. They have a dedicated Distance Learning liaison to help families transition from in-person to distance learning in a smooth manner and are understanding of each family's personal needs and concerns. (Which is proof of their commitment to learning)

We just completed parent/teacher conferences, and let me tell you... While most teachers at other schools will check boxes to determine how your child is doing, TCS has teachers write full reports on your child. They go much deeper in the understanding of your child as a whole. The teachers almost know my own children better than I do! I was so pleased to hear that they encourage their strengths and help them overcome their weaknesses both academically and socially. This is truly a unique and wonderful school. How many other schools can say that their Head of School knows each child by name?

If you're looking for top notch education and a supportive community, this is the place to be.

The homework policy is totally inconsistent from class to class and grade to grade. Some teachers are very 'old-school' and give packets of worksheets, other teachers hand out quality, project based assignments, while others give no homework at all.

Our 2 boys have spent 1 full school year (preschool and preK) at TCS plus summer sessions and we could not be happier with the experience. My older son dreaded going to his Montessori preschool so I was beyond pleased at how quickly he fell in love with TCS. Both boys are eager to get to school and do not want to leave at pickup. The teachers focus heavily on social and emotional development, weaving learning into everyday play and activities. There is a consistency to messaging regarding social development. The kids are encouraged to be themselves, to be creative and kind. The classrooms have various play/learning areas and have a relaxed and comforting vibe. So much art is created! We just could not be happier.

This is the best school available for young kids. TCS has created the most wonderful environment for my 3 children. The Childrens School is the best. As a new preschool student, my child loves her teachers and is beyond excited to go to school every single day. The teachers are experienced, calm, patient and nurturing. The indoor and outdoor environments encourage play and exploration. The community has been very welcoming to our family. Even though we are a preschool family, we are already eyeing the elementary and middle school programs. This feels like a place we want to be for the long haul.

Exclusivist, classist, and by no means a diverse population or pedagogical approach. Favoritism and arbitrariness of decisions is rampant at this nearly all white school of the richest kids in SD. Do NOT borrow money to send your kids here. You cannot buy your kids way into a class to which you dont belong, and you dont want to. I learned this the hard way.

What a great school it is!
Early childhood education is the crucial foundation for life. So I toured 10 preschools for my 3 year-old girl before preschool enrollment.
Finally I chose the school. It has excellent social program with stunning academic learning. Additionally the school is play-based.
Every weekends my daughter missed teachers a lot and enjoyed so much for whole school year.
She was a kind of shy kid but after preschool she totally changed! She has leardership and good social & communication skills even though she is a little girl.
As only one child mom, I had worried about her shyness. But now I don't have any concern about child development for my girl. The mentor family and elementary buddy system is very good !
The preschool director, Denise, and the curriculum strongly help to develop self-esteem, self-knowledge, respect and empathy for other people.
Additionally academic approach with play-based and hand-on experiences promotes children's learning so much.
Every school staffs is very nice, warm, and friendly themselves. The community mood is supportive and encourage all together.

Also the head of school is great. If you talk to him about your kid, any education concern or academic information, he know very much and help you a lot beyond your expectation.

In the last four years, this small school has had 7 kids make it to the state science fair finals, 4 kids make it to the state history day finals, 12 kids participate in math counts competition (winning best new team award!) All of this was achieved in a super low-key, positive and warm environment that respects the needs of each student. I can't say enough about TCS- especially now that my kid is confident and thriving in a rigorous private high school.

My son and I attended the Toddlers Program together for two consecutive years. He has a wonderful foundation to grow socially and academically. His first experience with school has been so positive that he loves going to school and learning. He also transitions well at drop off and between school activities, which is a testament to the Toddler Program.

I have attended the program with my two older children as well. I fondly recall the magical time that I "went to school with my kid." When else can you do that?

My kids had an opportunity to attend this excellent school while we were transferred to San Diego. They had a great experience and enjoyed every second in TCS. Staff, management and parent body were welcoming which made transition straightforward. Looking back, kids made many good friends, were happier and developed a stronger personality.

"Mommy, I love school." Such beautiful words to hear from a 2nd grader. All three of our kids started in the toddler program and have been part of the TCS family for the past 6 years. The campus of TCS is warm and inviting. TCS provides a place where each child is respected as a person and as a learner, and a place where parents can be involved with their children's learning. Teachers Teachers at TCS offer an environment that is caring, nurturing, and engaging. Through project based learning children are empowered to not only learn, but to be excited about learning. TCS also teaches each and every child to be a great citizen through respect for others, communication and problem solving. New Head of School Mr. Fowler is engaging with both parents and students. Mr. Fowler has taken the time, out of his busy day, to call me and let me know about a conversation he had with our first grader. What a great addition to TCS. 1 Star Review? Be real! You didn't get your personal agenda listened to, so that deserves one star? If TCS is such a horrible place why come back each and every year for ten years? Fundraising - TCS is a non-profit that survives on fundraising.

The faculty and administrative staff work as a team to nurture each student's personal development in becoming not only life-long learners, but also confident and self-respecting individuals who see their community and world as a whole. As independent thinkers, Children's School students and graduates discover how their roles in these 'bigger pictures' can be positive and effective. Like all schools, The Children's School has gone through many changes over the years. Whether it be the addition of the middle school, staffing increases and changes, or the myriad of incredible outdoor environments, the one thing that has always stayed constant is the school's devotion to making sure the students always come first. No one can contest that the students' education, development, and success have always been and continue to remain at the top of the school's priority list. Many members of the faculty and administration have been at the school for over a decade, if not two. It's a testament to the school that so many employees have found a second home at their chosen workplace. And every year the class and school projects get even more amazing. Change is hard. The poor Childrens School has had three inexperienced, short-term heads of school in a row and my family is not impressed with the newest one. His staffing decisions are questionable. Some incredible teachers and staff people left this last year because of budget cuts or disagreements with him (a couple of terrific people left in the middle of the year). We have a head who has made it clear he does not want anyones input, a rude and unhelpful business office, a communications manager who can never get us publicity even though we have great stuff going on in the classrooms (we just found out he promoted her to development director even though she has no experience), an admissions director who cant fill all the open spots of our declining enrollment, and a middle school director who is a tech guy. This school would be so awesome if we could just get the right head. Our kids love their teachers and coming to school, but it gets harder each year to justify $20,000 per kid when we are dealing with such an inexperienced administration. We will be moving our kids next year if things dont get better.

First, the teachers are incredible and my children love being in their classrooms. The big problem is the leadership. We are on our 4th head of school in five years and this one is not collaborative and he is driving great faculty, staff and families away. Anyone with an opinion different from his has been forced to leave or has been quieted in fear of losing their jobs. The teachers are very unhappy with the leadership.

A friend is on the board and they have been asked to post positive reviews on this site as part of their board service and we think that is misleading. When we started here at the school, there were more than 250 students and we are down to less than 200. More and more families are leaving. The school board is too weak to discipline the head. This could be a really great school.

TCS has been through a lot of changes in terms of their administration. There is yet a head of school that has been fully invested in this school. The new head along with the past two have had no headship experience. TCS needs a head of school who is invested in the school, the culture and the educational philosophy. Not heads who are here to gain experience and move on. Like someone else posted, the new head didn't move his family down as per his contract. What does this say about his connection with the community. The reason why TCS is so special and students love going and learning is because of the wonderful teachers they hire. Students aren't connected to the head of school, but rather the amazing teachers. It was sad to hear at the end of the year that some beloved and integral teachers left or were asked to leave due to the lack of communication, decision making and professionalism of the new head of school. TCS is a great school but if the headship continues like this, I fear what will become of this wonderful school.

The Children's School has a really strong, broad based and varied curriculum with an excellent focus on social and emotional development where children practice tolerance, kindness, assertiveness and negotiation as part of daily school life. We've very happy with the headmaster and his approach to both learning and the children's social / emotional development. He is a quiet and unassuming person but commands great respect from the children and seems to run a well organized campus.

We are extremely happy that we moved our children to this school last year, out of the public school system. They absolutely love going to school each morning and are vibrant and full of life when describing their day, each evening. They have more passion and enthusiasm for what they're learning and can go into immense detail to describe what they've been working on.

The Childrens School has great teachers and a beautiful campus, but the new head is making things worse, not better. Parents who have been very involved in the past have pulled financial support and are leaving in droves. He did not enroll his children or move into the community as he promised during the interview process. Enrollment continues to decline for the fifth straight year. The new head is cutting programs and teacher jobs, and is promoting unqualified people into key positions to save money. This school has a lot of potential, but bad leadership is continuing to keep TCS from being great. We hope that the new head has enough integrity to admit that he is a bad fit and moves on so the school can change course.

Wonderful teachers and parents, and the new headmaster has settled in well and gained confidence over the course of the year. Our kids love going to school each day and the oldest is now excelling at Bishops thanks in part to TCS.

If seeing your child grow up to be emotionally well-adjusted is as important to you as his or her academic achievement, you will find both goals are met with a TCS education. In our family, we have two older TCS alums who chose Duke University and the University of Chicago for their college years. We are fully confident that our current TCS student will have the same opportunities for higher education available to her. With experience at 3 different private schools over the years, we have seen disgruntled parents at all of them. Some with obvious good reason, others who may simply be gauging their child's progress against a set of priorities that differs from the school's. In today's world, people who have learned how to work collaboratively, who exhibit respect for themselves and others, and who find a real joy in learning will be the ones who are sought by higher education, and who will find the greatest success both professionally and in their personal life. For us, a TCS education through 8th grade is the surest way for our kids to get there.

The teachers are great, the campus is beautiful, the class sizes are small, the kids are phenomenal. The big problem is here is a total lack of trust in the leadership. The Board doesn't hold the Head accountable, and the new Head is quickly making enemies of the parents. Such potential here. Sad to not see it realized because of a lack of real leadership.

TCS is a poor excuse for a school. The "progressive" approach really only works through second grade, and even then it depends on whether you get the "good" teacher or not. The upper elementary and middle school are a hot mess and it is around this time that panic among parents sets in. There is so much uncertainty about what is happening and what is going to happen next (is my child receiving a solid education? why are the children losing confidence in themselves? why are there so many behavior problems at this school? why is there so much turnover in admin? why are board members pulling their kids out? are we really going to do this through 8th grade? what's wrong with this picture?). Parents are nervous and they should be. Listen to that voice inside - the one that keeps you up at night worrying, the one that makes you question everything. There are far better schools in the area and many of them don't cost tens of thousands of dollars. This is an overall poor choice because even if you have a few good years in the early years, you will have to uproot your kids and make a change in the middle of elementary school. The only thing certain about TCS is uncertainty.

This is a school that most people dream of - a 6 acre campus with ocean breezes, a dedicated, highly intelligent and caring faculty, small class sizes, project-based learning and happy, confident and smart students. My husband and I looked at many schools before I toured The Children's School and fell in love with it. Our family has been at the school for 5 years and the growth I have seen in my children is incredible. The school's Toddler program is unmatched and I have been wowed by every year since. While the children in the early years think they are playing and doing projects, every piece of the curriculum is there for a very precise reason. That reason is clear now that our daughter is in Elementary school and is out-performing her peers at other schools (while still enjoying and loving school). The students in Elementary school have amazing teachers (with masters degrees in education), access to a state of the art music lab, a speciality science teacher, technology, art, PE three times a week, library, the list goes on and on. I cannot say enough good things about this school. We love it!

The Children's School does an excellent job of living up to it's mission which is " to INSPIRE each child's unique potential and desire for life-long learning through a strong Academic, Social and Environmental curriculum. The Faculty thoughtfully and creatively teach material and skills relevant to the 21st century. The children approach learning with joyful anticipation.Children learn for the material, not the grade. Performance milestones are described , giving a more thorough and precise assessment. Given this, cheating is not learned and therefore non-existent. This was a big draw for me as it appears a huge problem elsewhere. Mutual respect is a value that resonates throughout the community. Children from the start learn how to get along with others. This is the foundation of future success in high school, college and career. As a parent of an Alumni I can attest to how my child's education at The Children's school has impacted our lives. My child is a happy, confident life-long learner who is ready for the next educational hurdle . It doesn't get better than this. But for those who can't think past the grade, yes, there are plenty of A's :)

I'm exhausted to read the reviews by the one parent with an ax to grind. This is a fantastic school that has gone through growing pains and is on a solid path. The teachers are loving and caring and extremely gifted. We have been at this school 9 years now and it pains me to read these lop-sided reviews that are vindictive and mean-spirited. And I'm offended the reviewer takes issue with current parents saying we don't face the facts. If that isn't a personal attack, I don't know what is.

Our children have attended TCS since 2005 and have never regretted it for a day. The teachers are enthusiastic and talented, and they make sure every student is comfortable and happy, while making progress both socially and academically. Our younger kids love going to school there and our oldest is now attending Bishops which has been an easy transition in every way. We are excited to see what the new head of school birings and are confident that the essence of what makes TCS great will continue for a long time to come.

It is shocking that parents are still sending their children here. Most of the families still attending, are just comfortable, and not wanting to face the facts. Teachers are young and inexperienced, administration is a joke, overall the place is a mess! Good Riddance!!!

A disappointment. Anything above preschool is very limiting in terms of quality of learning. Middle school program is particularly disappointing. Although school claims to support social and emotional learning the school's administration often do not reflect this value in their treatment of parents and children.

We have attended this school for six years, and we love the progressive educational philosophy, and overall our teachers have been excellent. The class sizes are small, and the teachers get to know the children well. For the past four years, however, leadership has been lacking. There has been turnover in administration, a serious lack of communication and transparency, and a combative, defensive stance from both the administration and the Board when issues are raised by teachers or parents. My understanding is that a new Head has been hired for next year, and I am hopeful that this school will once again be able to live up to its potential.

Great early education program. Perfect nurturing setting for pre-school through pre-K. The grounds are beautiful, the facilities age appropriate, the staff friendly and supportive. Unfortunately this is where it stops. There is no recognizable academic program; after watching our kindergartener make no progress with basic handwriting, reading and counting skills we had to step in and provide these core skills through a tutor at home. There is no cohesive content, no homework and no testing; my child was left bored and unchallenged.

The Children's School has been an amazing academic AND social experience for both of my intelligent and curious children. Both of our children started attending the school in Preschool and finished in the NMY middle school's 8th grade. There are many things we really love and appreciate about TCS's philosophy and academic environment. The school's social curriculum teaches all aged students how to resolve conflicts, be a good friend and be respectfully assertive. My kids learned how to advocate for themselves early on and this really paid off when they got into high school. We also loved the amazing teachers and the mentoring that happens in a small school. All my kids teachers knew and CARED about who my kid was academically and socially. They advised, guided and taught my boys in ways I never got in my public school education as a kid. No school is perfect! But for those parents who have said that there is not enough guidance and too much wasted time in class are very illl informed and narrow minded. As for readiness for high school, both my kids were amazingly prepared and are academically secure. I have a junior in a local public HS and he is getting very high grades.

As a teacher who can work anywhere in our country, I do not regret my decision. I love working at TCS because we have amazing families and even more amazing students.

My school is a big disappointment. It was really good several years ago, but starting four years ago it's gone downhill and I wouldn't recommend it to anyone. It used to have a strong social curriculum but it does not now. It used to have really great teachers but they have left. I don't understand why one parent said all the graduates get into their first choice of schools. This year only one student got into their first choice school, the others got into second and third choice schools, and one person didn't get into any. This is not a good school to prepare you for going to a High School of your choice because it isn't strong academically, and now its social curriculum isn't strong either. If you care for your kids, don't send them here after Preschool. It's a nice campus and well located for people who live in La Jolla. But I can't recommend anything about this unprofessional and depressing place. There used to be a feeling of community but there isn't anymore. Like me, my family is sad and disappointed and so we are leaving. I'm worried if I'm too specific my rating will be taken down so I'll leave it at that. After 8 years, I cannot recommend at all to anyone.

Our daughter has experienced both public and private schools and she loves being at The Children's School. Children are treated with respect, trust and appreciation for their learning styles and individuality. They learn through hands-on discovery and not rote memorization. Their critical thinking skills are developing alongside their social-emotional growth. The campus is a beautiful extended classroom, the teachers are talented and creative and the administration is dedicated and approachable. Parents are welcoming and there are lots of ways to get involved and continuing our own learning through the parent education events. While electives and the fine arts are going by the wayside at public schools, The Children's School has specialty classes (PE, art, music, science, library, technology) that are a part of the weekly schedule. There is even a dance academy and community garden on campus, along with after-school sports, enrichment classes and summer camps. We love TCS, and our only regret is we didn't find it sooner to enroll when our daughter was a toddler!

Graduates from The Children's School are accepted at their school of choice. They are highly successful once they make the transition, even though they have little exposure to "multiple choice" testing or grades. TCS graduates are such confident and proficient learners that they soon master the skills necessary to be successful at ANY school, project-based or not. Our graduates are highly sought after in local schools, and are a source of pride for all of us. Alumni often return to stay connected and later enroll their own children at TCS, having experienced and knowing the value of project-based learning and the social curriculum that it unique to TCS firsthand. Highly recommend TCS to everyone, especially those who wish for lifelong learners.

This has been a wonderful school experience for my son. They treat the children with respect and as individuals. He has learned an amazing amount of core academic skills but more importantly has remained engaged, developed a love of learning and learned to challenge himself. I also appreciate that social issues between him and classmates have been handled quickly and with thoughtfulness to encourage social learning. The small class size has allowed him to get individual teacher attention in areas where he was ready for a special challenge. I know he will be able to succeed in any academic environment with the skills he has learned here. Thank you TCS!

No accountability, weak academics, so much wasted time. Lack of guidance, support, supervision, or assessments for teachers or students. Attrition rates are very high. Staff and programs are cut while tuition increases every year. Administration is totally incompetent and deceptive. I have a lot of regret and would never recommend this school to anyone.

My three children are students at The Children's School. My oldest child is in second grade and in her fifth year at the school. The school blends real world learning with high academic standards. Students are able to apply what they learn in the classroom into their personal lives and community which allows them to own their work and gives the material meaning. The emergent curriculum is based on the interests of the group so the children are engaged and invested in their learning. The classrooms and school-wide community are infused with joy, compassion, respect, curiosity, and excitement. My children have developed close bonds with their teachers and peers. The school has become our home away from home. I highly recommend that you take a tour - you will discover a magical place.

For two summers in a row, my daughter is enjoying the summer camp at the Children's school. Christy Dunn, the Activities Director, has done a fantastic job, offering a wide range of camps, from performing arts to sports and put a lot of effort into impeccable organization. Camps start on time every single day, the drop off and pick up is smooth and fast. The staff is very professional and helpful. I want to add, that my child has special needs and finding a camp that will be a good fit is tough. But not at Children's school. My child is included 100%, her differences are embraced and the teachers always make sure that activities are modified to fit her needs. Being at this school has been a wonderful, stress free experience. My daughter is looking forward to the next year to come back and enjoy summer with her friends.

Great summer camp! Every two weeks they offer different themes! Love the options to pick and choose from every other week, allowing us to take vacations, etc. The camp director, Christy, is fantastic and the staff are wonderful! Christy went way beyond my expectations. She knew every child and parent by name and made an effort to touch base with everyone every day. She has a wonderful talent for bonding with the little ones! His camp teacher and camp counselor were also fantastic and were a comfort to him when he missed mom! I was very scared and reluctant to let my 5 year old attend the half-day camp, especially since he has never been to a camp away from his school. However, he had a wonderful time! He made friends with a few of the other boys there. We will definitely be back next summer!

In my sixth year at TCS and still love it. ASlthough there has been flux in the Administration, the Faculty is outstanding there. Everyone knows and cares about each child. They work as a team to find and nurture the needs of each child, even when it may not coincide with parents and monetary needs. Dollar signs do not cancel out the best needs of the children. Kids are respected and appreciated for who they are, socially, emotionally, and academically. There is also a phenomenal support and specialty class and offering. I LOVE this school and more importantly, so do my children.

I am thankful for the amazing social curriculum and child-centered philosophy that has definitely contributed to my daughters overall confidence and love for learning. This school has some good qualities (better for young kids), but overall it is not worth the money. Lots of time and effort spent on fundraising and not enough on teaching and academics. Major disappointment.

This school is a treasure. I feel so lucky to have found it. My child loves to go to school each day and loves his teachers. I was blown away at the conference to see how well the teacher knows and understands my child. Everyone at this school is professional, warm and caring. They practice their much touted social curriculum with the parents, students and each other...these teachers and this school are amazing!

We left before the end of the school year as did several other children in our class. There has been significant change in leadership and staff which reflects the significance of the issues this school has been facing. There is no clear direction and no consistancy across the classrooms. Some teachers there are really great and if you are lucky to get the good ones you may be happy. The majority of the parents in our class raised valid concerns and they remained unresolved for the school year. We came from another progressive school and are very supportive of this philosophy. We had thought we found the perfect school for our child and were very disappointed in the reality.

This school has some potential, but just can't quite make it work. The leadership has changed so much in the past few years that there is no consistency. Each teacher has different ways of teaching the "social curriculum" that the school is known for and the school policies change year to year - my kids are smart enough to realize this inconsistency and are affected by it. I had high hopes for this school, but have been disappointed over and over again. There are a lot of differing reviews on here - my suggestion would be to look at other schools, however, if you are still interested in this School go and ask questions. Print these reviews out and see how they respond. Everything looks okay from the outside, but once you sign your contract there is no backing out. Also, be prepared for another change soon, the current leader has made it clear to everyone that she will only stay through the 2013-14 school year.
