The Charter School of San Diego has to be one of the best schools I've ever seen. The teachers are dedicated to making their students know that they have 100% support and the resources to succeed. My teacher, Mr. Agnas has been an excellent teacher. He pushed me academically and as a result I am graduating a year early! The teachers make sure that the environment is greatly well for every student so the students can truly focus on their schoolwork. Despite this school having different learning techniques and environment, choosing this school for high school has been one of the best decisions I've made for myself. I 100% recommend this school to everyone who is looking to achieve their goals.

I always struggled with school feeling unmotivated, but this school helped me earn my high school diploma. I didn't give up and worked hard at completing the course work. I was able to finish my classes with the help of the Northgate staff, especially with the help of my teacher Mr. Agnus. 10/10 highly recommend this school.

I enjoyed my time at The Charter School of San Diego. It was sincerely a good time, and I went through multiple teachers throughout my time until I landed with Ms. Salazar and Mr. Arriaga. They are very laidback teachers but very professional when it comes to certain matters. I wasnÂ’t always doing my best, but when it came to it, they believed and pushed me to do better until I eventually graduated. ItÂ’s hard to move on, but I was taught to preserve under difficult conditions until they are not so difficult. It was, and still is a great environment for independent study. A place in where I felt safe and secure. Whether communicating with my friends, or communicating with the teachers. All I know is that Mr. Arriaga and Ms. Salazar are astoundingly great people and teachers.

My experience at this school was fantastic, in particular the one-on-one work environment that is very flexible if you are working or participate in extracurricular activities. Additionally, the information and help the counselors and teachers provide for you for any route you decide to take after high school. I would describe this school as flexible overall, allowing you to take a break when needed or in case of emergencies, doing work at your own pace if you are independently driven and most important help you take care of your mental health. I highly recommend Mr. Agnas at the Northgate San Diego Charter School location, his love and passion to help students is very evident in the way he carries himself out through the help he provides. Overall, I would definitely consider this school for your kids, cousins or friends especially if you your self driven and seek to get ahead in your academic goals.

My son's experience was excellent, from the teacher component to the content. Not all students can thrive in "traditional" high school settings. This school allowed for my son to have a place to thrive, a place where his emotional needs were just as valued. I cannot speak highly enough about the personalized attention. As a parent, I felt I had support at all times; I knew I could always reach out to his teacher and have help. Defintely 5 stars!

Posted: August 14, 2020

The teacher works with the student to ensure homework is being completed and is appropriate. Accomdations are made as necessary.

Posted: August 14, 2020

My son's teacher (Macy Vedder) went above and beyond to make sure my son was on target, reached out to offer support, clearly communicated expectations, and developed a positive relationship with my son. Research clearly shows that student/teacher relationships have a high efficacy in student success.

Posted: August 14, 2020

Because the teacher demonstrated integrity, compassion and respect for my son, this was therefore modeled to my son and in turn, his character was affected positively. I cannot say enough for the compassion demonstrated for my son, who had a lot of personal challenges.

Posted: August 14, 2020

Posted: August 14, 2020

My son has a Section 504 plan in place, and his accomodations were addressed and adjusted as needed. Learning was tailored to him.

Posted: August 14, 2020

This was not an issue, as classes were mostly completed independently, but I believe it would have been dealt with, had it been an issue, based on the integrity of the staff.

Feel privileged to be here. The Charter School of San Diego is literally the school of chance and hope. I am certain that there's no other schools out there that would literally have the patience for a student. I consider myself very fortunate and very great-full for having me kept despite the prolong wait i created for myself to actually buckle down and graduate. I started 2013 graduated 2019 at age 20, why so long? Because I chose this upon myself and though its time I wasted and time will never get back in life, the Altus Charter School of San Diego and their awesome teachers never gave up on me. I had a total of 4 teachers and it's an honor to have witness been graduated by Ms. Salazar. Though I am not someone who expresses how they feel in person, Ms Salazar is an amazing person as she is a teacher. She has shown far and beyond care for a student. She not only pushed me to graduate,, but she literally helped me out with my immigration status by recommending me good consultations, as well as trying to settle me down somewhere where I can pursue the career I want as an electrician. She has shown great concern and importance for not only me but her students. Im very great-full to the Charter School to have such great teachers like Ms Salazar. Thank You Ms Salazar and Thank You Charter School of San Diego. I will never forget what you guys have done for me.

Excellent! My daughter was not comfortable in the local public schools during her high school final years. She opted for the Charter School of San Diego. She had a GREAT experience there, learning one on one, working closely with Ms. Julee Guerrero, and learning to be responsible for her own work and efforts toward completing high school credits and applying to colleges. She was accepted at SDSU and several other universities. CSSD was very supportive in assist to move her to the next steps toward graduation. What I truly enjoyed about the school was minimal Administrative time and maximal time spent teaching and working wiht students academically. The CSSD reward students for LEARNING and not for just sitting in a classroom. The CSSD is REIMBURSED depending on the WORK COMPLETED by the STUDENT and TURNED IN, so both the CSSD teachers and the students have a MUTUAL GOAL to get the work done and complete and turned in... b/c both the School and the student receive full "credit" when that occurs.

Posted: February 5, 2019

The school makes the student responsible for their own pace of progress through the academic material. it can be adjusted so that students can progress quickly or slowly depending on their own individual abilities.

What is GREAT! is that the Homework is graded based on COMPLETION by the student.

Posted: February 5, 2019

The teachers keep the students on-track with their class and credit requirements to graduate from high school and attend various colleges.

Posted: February 5, 2019

Students need to be accountable and responsible to complete their work and make progress toward graduation.

Posted: February 5, 2019

I was not clear about the leadership (administration) of the school. There was a true focus on teaching and academic leadersihp to support the students so they graduate from high school.

Scale from 1 to 10 I would say 10 it was the best experience especially with my teacher Mr. Domingo Agnas. Grossmont Secondary School taught me how to persevere, get things done, and take responsibility. Everything that I did during my four years here was because of my own work and scheduling. I will be able to stand on my own two feet in the real world now. The electives that they offered are EXCEPTIONALLY relevant to transitioning into the workforce, financial world, and whatever anyone wants to do. I never felt neglected because teachers are always kind and involved in your work, I donÂ’t know how they do it with everyone. Thank you so much!!!

My experience at The Charter School of San Diego was amazing. I received the individualized help I needed to better understand the course work assigned and prepare me for college. The teachers at both Mid-City classrooms are supportive and caring. I would recommend this school to anyone.

Students must mastor the class to go on. You can't just get a D, you learn the material

Posted: September 25, 2017

My daughter was on the gifted program at the local school. She was stressed because the teachers would all give their big assignments at once. At this school she could really concentrate on something. I think their education is superior. Dont let the graduation stats fool you. Some kids go here because they have problems elsewhere. They get back on track, then want to "graduate with their old friends". ...a ceremony where their name is read off. The Charter School has a beautiful ceremony at Balboa park, much nicer and more personal!

Posted: May 5, 2017

They do not give up! When all the others fail they teach us that you can still reach the goal.

Posted: May 5, 2017

Posted: May 5, 2017

Leadership in this school is effective: I personally would say yes! It requires leadership and passion to achieve a goal and they propose it from the first day of school.

Posted: May 5, 2017

This school effectively supports students with learning differences: my personal story is an example of my son with severe depression and his teacher always encouraged him and sought ways to help him.

This school offered my child curriculum that didn't really teach her anything of significance. I felt that they tried to teach to the test just to boost their ratings. My child complained about no support when she would go to the classroom because they would be too busy. When I called to follow up with her grades, I mostly got the answering machine and when someone did answer, the teacher was not in the room or available. I even reached out to the administration staff and they seems like they were too busy to care about my concerns. I just felt very neglected there, as did my daughter.

Posted: November 1, 2016

I saw a a couple of boys get into a fight while I waited in my car to pick up my daughter. They looked like they were students at the school but appeared to have stepped outside into the parking lot in the shopping center to fight near where my daughter's school was located. I didn't see the teachers respond or try to mitigate the situation even though it was in plain view of the other students. I was scared for my own child.

Posted: November 1, 2016

I truly believe that the leadership at this school are focussed on only one thing- money. They claim to run the school like a business and in my opinion, it is at the detriment to their students. They will do anything to enroll your child but then they leave the hanging- at least that is how I felt. I got a very negative impression from the leadership at charter school of SD. They were very condescending towards me and didn't show any sensitivity or willingness to help. I felt snubbed because they were very cold in the way they treated me and very insensitive to my concerns about how my child was being treated. The administrator I met with, in my opinion, dressed very unprofessionally. What I saw her wear shouldn't ever be worn in a school setting. Shouldn't leaders of a school be modest and not wear super short skirts? I think they should.

Posted: November 1, 2016

My child was disappointed in their progress because they didn't seem to receive any support at their classroom. Their teacher was barely ever in the class and was always so busy with paperwork or on the phone to help her. I yanked her after 6 months of wasted time.

Posted: November 1, 2016

My child's teacher was an English teacher and didn't know how to teach math to my daughter. The teacher (i'm not mentioning any names) didn't know how to solve a simple trinomial equation. I found that so pathetic!

Posted: November 1, 2016

A horrible school...speaking from first hand experience. Trust me- Don't enroll your children here. They were dishonest to me about their teaching practices and I got the impression that they really don't care about kids enrolled in their school but rather, the funding they bring.

They take the time to understand the student to help them achieve their full potential. This would not happen at a regular public school where there is not individual attention.

Posted: October 12, 2016

Posted: October 12, 2016

They take the time to work one on one with my son who had trouble working in a normal classroom setting. The school takes the time to understand the student and work according to the student's strengths and help to encourage the student to work independently.

If you like a blank white wall with a few cheesy motivational posters breaking up the unsettling blankness then The Charter School of San Diego is the place for you. If you cannot stand the company of others or like not having any friends then The Charter School of San Diego is again... the place for you. This school is very interesting. The Charter School of San Diego has many locations across SD. However the location I go to is directly under a large parking structure and every time a car drives over the classroom it shakes and it reminds us a small earthquake. But do not worry the cheesy motivational posters remain unmoved from there haunting positions on the wall. Being in North Park we have a lot of Hipsters that like to speed down the sidewalk on their bikes on their way to a yoga session or to a grass fed burger or even a vinyl record store. But besides all these things that make the school standout almost in a negative, its the awesome Teachers and Classroom Assistants whom make you want to stay and learn. The Charter School of San Diego is a great school and I am very happy to have been apart of the 2016 class!

This school is excellent. I have never liked my previous schools, in fact, I hated them. My teachers always managed to confuse me even further, and the homework came in enormous, fat binders with little organization. This school has been a life-saver. Anybody who knows me knows I would never speak so well of a school unless I truly, in the truest sense, meant it. The teachers are incredible. Not only do they know what they're talking about, but they're sweet, and never make you feel ridiculous, foolish, or annoying. Communication is marvelous. Their system is perfect for me and makes homework a breeze compared to previous schools. These teachers truly care about you and your progress (yes, I know every school site in the world says so, but I really mean it) and help make school fit your learning style and needs. The actual school building is safe, peaceful, clean, and comfortable. I have never been in any kind of unpleasant situation with a teacher or student. Everyone has been kind to me, and I have never witnessed any unkindness between anyone else. Overall, this is a great school that allows you to learn and live your life at the same time. I would recommend it to anyone.

I am a specialist in Professional Development (PD). I had the pleasure of teaching a group of 30 teachers from the Charter School staff. This is my 5th decade as an educator and presenter of PD programs and I must sincerely say that this group of exceptional teachers are amazing! They are very intelligent, amazingly hard working and competent educatiors who extremely dedicated to helping all their students complete the program to earn a high school diploma and be able to access to a wide variety of post-secondary career development opportunities, including admission to college.

If I were the parent or grandparent of a teen age student who had lost his or her desire to graduate from high school, I would sign them up immediately for this FREE Charter School Experience. I am proud to say that these teachers allowed me to guide them to their goal of helping all their students re-discover their excitement about learning. Go visit a site for this school asap and you will probably feel as enthusiastic about this school as I .

Parents, please listen up. I was very hesitant to enroll my child into this school. Charter schools have an unusual bad reputation of having troublemakers, and my son is definitely not one of those kids. Turns out, this school is MAGNIFICENT. USDHS, a private college prep school my son previously went to, does not come close to the curriculum here at Altus Institute. He has been earning his credits quicker than ever and has made tons of new friends. If you want to see your child succeed academically and socially, join this outstanding program. You won't regret it. Do not let the stereotypical idea of charter schools get in the way of your child attending the best school in San Diego. They have many locations throughout San Diego.

I would like to take the time to compliment Miss Diana Escandon, teacher at the Point Loma 4 site of the Charter School of San Diego. She is professional, clear in her expectations, and has a very nice manor in motivating our son. Thank you Miss Escandon and thank you Charter School of San Diego for the great experience!

This school really helps with the learning process of a student. They have amazing programs like the Cadet Corps. It's not as time consuming as traditional school and it helps that you take on 1 course at a time. The Cadet Corps is a program I'm apart of we have fun going to events like Summer Camp, Parades, NCO School, and Leadership School. The Cadet Corps is a better program compared to JROTC we are friendly and the commandants are friendly and are great teachers. I like this program because it helps me prepare for the military and shows discipline, and I am glad that I joined this school.

Charter School of San Diego gave our son a "second chance" in high school. Mrs. Chung believed in him and saw his potential. She was more than patient and encouraged him to succeed. Being given the freedom to work at his own pace taught him what he was capable of achieving. He decided to take the CHSPE last October. Mrs. Chung provided valuable advice for taking the test and our son passed it. We are grateful for the opportunities The Charter School of San Diego offered.

My teacher (Ms. Brown) always provides me with helpful study links, school events, and important test dates. She also provides help whenever I need it and this has allowed me to excel in my courses. Overall the Charter School of San Diego is a great school and I'd highly recommend it to all my friends.

I cant express how fortunate my Son is to be in this school. Learning is actually possible here as opposed to traditional public school setting. The Jr High school in our area was overwhelmed with troubled students and understaffed. This left no room for well behaved student to get academic help. I was even turned away by the student counselor when I sought help for my sons failing math grades. Now my son is actually learning and excelling, Thanks to the limitless help and great dedicated teachers.

The Altus Institute charter school at UTC is my favorite school of the ones i've been to, the teachers are communicative and eager to help, the work is interesting and the 1 subject-at-a-time curriculum lets me focus on what i'm learning.

My teacher is also very nice, i'm happy that we have a connection and that shes there for me when im having difficulties. i think transferring to a charter school from a regular school has been the best decision made .

The North Park site at the Charter School of San Diego has helped me out a lot since I first got here. My grades have improved and the teachers were a big help too. I love this school because not only are all the teachers helpful and take their time to work with each student and help them understand but that there's no disruptions so it's easy to get work done faster. I really recommend coming to this school to improve your grades and earn credits faster.

The Charter School of San Diego is one of the best schools i have bin in because not only is it self learning witch shows responsibility and character but it also has a CA Cadet Corps program. CA Cadet Corps is a military based program that not only encourages leadership but also demands school work and grades to be passing if not high than passing.

Posted: September 30, 2014

My school is amazing because they let me be a part of CA Cadet Corps, a military based program that teaches me and the other Cadets leadership skills and military knowledge that will help me if i want to join the military (which I do). I love that the program is so similar to the military and it keeps me physically fit and i get to move through all the different ranks.

I highly recommend attending the Charter School. The students also have computers available and this classroom is stocked with art and school supplies. My teacher and the teachers assistant are also pretty amazing. This school also has an ROTC program available and the teachers have provided me with great opportunities to become a better person outside of school as well as in school.

The teachers and staff is very friendly and helpful and shows much concern towards your choice in career and other future endeavors and to kids like me, that means a lot. The Charter School of San Diego offers a great education at a good convenience So it works out with people who run a tight schedule, the only things that need improving are the supplies in textbooks.

This school is awesome! All the teachers are very helpful even if they are not your assigned teacher. You get personal, one on one help and you can choose when the best time for you to come in is. Most people think that this is where all the "bad kids" go but its not. The teachers have great plans to get into the best colleges and get the best in your future. I've been enrolled here for only a year but I already know that I am going to finish high school here.

This school has prepared my daughter for college by teaching her time management skills, how to be organized and by being academically ready through the courses she has taken and successfully completed. I would highly recommend this school to a family that would like an alternative to the traditional schools and would like more attention from the teachers. The teachers are fantastic and really care about each student,

The Charter School of San Diego helps my daughter whenever I struggle through a school subject and doesn't let my child fall behind in her school work. Mrs Macias is a great teacher because she encourages my daughter to be positive and keeps her on track . This is very helpful especially because my daughter has an IEP and needs that added support.

The Charter School of San Diego is a great school for students who want to finish school on their own pace. People may think that this school is for drop-outs and delinquents but really all of them actually care about their future. The atmosphere is friendly and the students I've met aren't judgmental. The teachers are very caring and take time to teach you one on one. I have changed teachers three times but each one help me out significantly. I would recommend this school to any student or parent.

I absolutely love this school! The curriculum is well balanced. The teachers in La Mesa go way out of their way to give one on one time to students. My daughter who already was a great student has excelled in Math and seems to look forward to completing each assignment; this is due to them not giving so much busy work but work that help her build knowledge that sticks. There is so much I can say about this school. The flexible hours work well for us and have been a motivation for my daughter to spend extra time at school working on projects. I think Charter School of San Diego is San Diego's best kept secret. Tell everyone to check it out, it has made all the difference in the world.

The teacher assistant Mrs. Erin is also really nice whenever i need help i just go and ask for help and she helps me. I don't know why theres bad reviews on this school i would definitely recommend this school.

From day one Mrs. Debowski was wonderful. I was so tired of all of the issues with regular high schools. Here, my daughter had one main teacher, who was involved, called whenever there was anything to share (good or bad) and really cared about my child's education, well-being and future. I would highly recommend for anyone whose child is struggling with bullying, overwhelmed by the social aspects of high school or too many classes/ teachers/ administrators/ counselors/etc., to go to this school. Your child should be self-motivated and responsible to be successful in this program, since most of the classes are independent study.

Run away! This is not an "over glorified homeschool". That insults homeschoolers. Audeo, Altus and Charter School of San Diego are ALL THE SAME SCHOOLS!!! Think about it. Kids are supposed to learn from the book at their own pace, do the work, and get out fast. The teachers are there as guides. WRONG!!! There are no single subject credentialed instructors. There are no instructors familiar with the details of any lesson plan at the time the student asks a question. For the two "part-time" multiple subject credentialed teachers there are usually 3 "aides" who apparently are "highly qualified" parents. This might work if they had the proper curriculum. But they are using INCOMPLETE and OUTDATED traditional school curriculum. The lesson guides are so old that the teachers can't do anything but make photocopies of old photocopies. The curriculum there was meant for a portion to be presented by a teacher and the students to have online access, neither of which is happening. Their teachers are really great at double speak, and would make very good marketing and sales reps for an Enron type company. This school is just a way for someone to scam taxpayers and skim off education funding.

I had doubts about the light work load and apparent lack of difficulty of the ind study program but my kid scored off the charts on all the state standardized tests so I guess it must be OK; he's already smart anyway just won't do anything. Anyway it was the only school that would take him after he got kicked out for selling drugs so I am very happy with it; the teachers seem very nice although there apparently isn't actually much interaction....
