I attended Lawndale High School as a freshman during 2023–2024, and leaving was one of the best decisions I made. I experienced bullying, witnessed frequent fights, and often felt unsafe at school. I also noticed how socially segregated the campus felt. There was a large Hispanic and African American student population, while White and Asian students seemed much less common. In my experience, many students mainly stayed within their own racial or cultural groups, which made the school feel divided. I also encountered students who appeared to have connections to gangs or gang-affiliated groups, which added to the atmosphere I experienced. Many students also seemed to come from outside Lawndale, including areas deeper in South Los Angeles.

In 2024, I was fortunate enough to get approved for a district permit to attend Redondo Union High School. I am now a senior, and transferring was absolutely the right decision for me. I genuinely enjoy Redondo Union and find it much more welcoming…

I am very concerned for mine and any child’s safety at this school. My child got bullied, called racial slurs and was harassed by the soccer team. I am very disappointed in the school system not protecting my child in need especially when reaching out for help. There needs to be repercussions for the actions of the soccer team. Parents please keep your children safe!!!

If you're genuinely concerned about your child's education, I strongly recommend considering nearby schools like Mira Costa or Redondo Union. Unfortunately, this school lacks diversity and is predominantly made up of Black and Hispanic students, many of whom misrepresent their residency. A significant number come from Inglewood after being displaced, and there are frequent fights on campus. Additionally, some security personnel seem to have personal connections with students, which can sometimes protect those involved in harmful behavior. The overall quality of education and the school environment leaves much to be desired, and the Lawndale School District and Centinela Valley have a lot of areas in need of improvement.

My son had the opportunity to go to an elite private school for free in Los angeles. We chose to go to Lawndale High School for their academies and their Sports program. We are so happy that we did. The academics especially in the honors and AP classes are excellent.

absolutely horrible. the staff here is so unprofessional and mean. not all of them are this way but definitely more than half are. most of the teachers are not fit for their jobs and should retire or be fired.

WORST SCHOOL EVER
All the staff friend each other to keep themselves out of trouble even at the cost of making students feel very terrible.
Many student do not trust the staff or teachers. Personally I caught teacher speaking very negatively about their students even when they are well behaved students. sometimes the teachers would trust a couple of students and tell them the rumors. Then when it gets to the student that they were speaking negatively about and the student approach them about it, they would tell them they are young adults and that the world is not fair and they have to grow up and deal with it. The only way you can ever get a teacher to help them is by saying you are willing to file lawsuit. Parents cant even get involved because just much of a mess and very disorganize school it is.

Too much work and so little to actually understand. Most teachers put on videos that briefly explain the subject then when work is assigned teachers refuse to help most common reason why is "You should have pay attention" so they make other students try explain then everyone in class doesn't even know then the teacher becomes upset and then pressure students and humiliates them.

There's only a couple of good teachers at this school while most are just there to get their check and sit down on their desk and watch Youtube or Facebook. They expect too much from students and give very little teachings to students. They don't make sure at least most of the class understand concept. Then if we speak about electives not every student get the opportunity to learn or experience even when they are placed in the class to "learn".
This is why you will notice most students in this school have terrible grades and will have negative attitude towards teachers.
They don't care unless you are in a sport team because they would make your grades look good even if your not doing good and reason they do this is to make the school look great when it really isn't. The most shadiest school honestly. No clean work here.
Also one teacher told me that they have a right to refuse to help students because the are not obligated to by law.
So personally I missed 90 days of school in my senior year and still graduated, that how poor the system is.

With all the negative things happening at the school then on top teacher refusing to even help or even give student printing paper at least students grow up being very rude and selfish. Many students after looking for help with the teachers when they have issues at first and the teachers refusing to help the students would take matter into their own hands. That why there is at least 20 fights every single day and police have to show up three times every day.

Teachers would humiliate, bully, exclude, and yell at these students a lot. Then the whole class would laugh at them including the teachers when they make mistakes. Then its also encourage to look down at them. The only pro is that they are promised to be given A's even when the work is done wrong.

I am a Lawndale High alum. Lawndale is a great school for those students who are motivated and involved. Lawndale also has one of the best teachers who genuinely care for their students. As for academics, the school puts in their effort and the students should also put their fair share. I went to Lawndale High, and now I am at an Ivy League institution. If I did it, others can too. The administration is a bit ehh though.

This school used to be good but no the school is bad. This school has no school spirit and I can see why. The school is SO CROWDED! They accept like every student now, barely any room in the lunch line and when you go to the L's(science rooms) theres like a million kids coming out. The teachers are ok but some just do not care about the students and some don't even teach that good they just talk and let students sleep and listen to music. And when the first day of school comes they mess up the students schedule, this happens every year. It was so bad this year it took 4 weeks to fix the students schedule and during the 2nd week of school you can see a bunch angry parents complaining to the counselors about their kids schedule.The students are down right rude and care more about their looks then their education, not all though but still. The school is dirty too. Anyways don't bother coming here its better if you go to a school like leuzinger. I here that school not so bad after all. Rant over.

In the 60's and 70's it was a great school. Now I would rate it at average or below. Am totally unimpressed with the 13 year plan. Great new facilities does not translate to good students. And hoe does a "Broke State" get the finances. Lawndale is now a lower middle class area. Improvements have to be made, ot's true but not a new scholl that resembles a college campus. Academics, administrators, good teachers, and good parents make a school worthwhile. And not leaving any vestige or building ans sayin one will not recognize it in the future, is cruel to those students who started the school, and the teachers who taught there. I don't want bragging rights, I want good students, teachers and citizens.

This school was very good during the 2009-2010 school year. The teacher all seemed to genuinely care for the students.However, the superintendent, who also oversees the substandard perforning Hawthorne and Leuzinger High Schools, decided to move some of the great techers to these low performing schools in exchange for teachers that were not doing so well. The change was obvious on day one of this school year. The expereince with some of these new teachers has not been favorable. I do not see the drive and motivation to help my child. My child tells me the students have the same perception. My son went over two months without a history book and was failing his class. Yes, he was expected to complete all his assignments without a tectbook (the only student without a book in her class). I hope this superintendant realizes his mistake or gets replaced by someone with a strong business philosophy.
