Average school overall, including academically. It's not a bad school - but it's not a great school. It doesn't stand out. They're great at marketing themselves to SEEM fantastic, but they're really just average. Just another regular school - nothing special.

One geography teacher creates all of the geography assignments for all of the freshmen. His conservative leanings are clear in the homework and he makes the students read Breitbart, from the assignment that I saw. For one assignment, students have to choose one side to argue for, based on ONLY articles that the teacher has chosen (including Breitbart). One side is much easier to argue for than the other, so students just pick that side simply because it is EASIER. Also, with all of the extracurriculars and college prep that students are expected to do these days, it would be better for the school to ease off a tiny bit on their "rigorous hours of homework" policy. Kids need time to sleep so they can grow and learn better!

The math department kind of runs everything, it seems. They don't really innovate or take suggestions. The way things are can be kind of detrimental to students' learning sometimes. Overall, teachers here are like any average teacher at a regular public school.

There is racism and sexism among the students, and staff can be sexist, too (like male staff sitting around chatting and on their phones while female staff work; female staff getting yelled at for making tiny mistakes but the male staff get away with not working; leadership basically letting male staff get away with stuff like this). These things are not good for students to learn from. How are students supposed to learn integrity, compassion, and respect when staff berates other staff in front of them? Or when students are asked to read articles from problematic "news" sites that encourage racism and sexism?

Some staff have emotional instabilities. One staff member had MULTIPLE instances of YELLING at other staff IN FRONT OF STUDENTS about TINY things that didn't affect the students.

There's different programs/ways for students to get additional or different academic support. There's also 504s/IEPs.

The school counselors are a great source of support for students and they actually take action to help. They make a difference!

I have a student currently attending Steele and I am very disappointing. This school is pathetic academically and unimpressive in every other facet.

I have two students, soon to be three at Steele. My two are thriving at Steele academically, they both participate in sports/team opportunities like track, swim, cheer and football. They love it!!!
Steele Canyon has been a positive educational experience for us and I couldn't be happier!!!

The thing we noticed the first time we ever walked into the school was how friendly the students are and how happy they are to be there. Great programs and great kids!

Steele Canyon, or as I like to call it, the definition of Heaven. A place where your child can be himself no matter what.

Over-bearing administration prevents faculty from achieving the success they are capable of. Principal is heavy handed and runs roughshod over the expressed desires of the faculty. Results in a high turn-over in APs.

Altogether the school is great, but lately I've noticed a horrible lack in leadership and the overall family vibe is dwindling down to practically nothing. That being said the school still offers a top notch learning environment and helpful teachers and counselors. Personally I think if the leadership shifted the school would flourish has it did when I went there. I only wish for the best for my former high school. Honestly had the best years there.

I'm a parent and have heard a lot of other parents in the community talking about how bad the new principal is. There is virtually no leadership. The teachers are always friendly and helpful, though, so hopefully they will get a new principal soon!
