I am writing this as a substitute teacher and I would like to say that this school lacks proper control of students and classrooms. Students get reported for terrible behaviors and nothing gets done. Educators are constantly disrespected and berated and students who are willing and capable of learning are not able to do so. I personally as an educator do not feel safe nor able to teach at this location. Teachers are expected to share classrooms and use cellphones to call the office. Major changes need to be made.

I am very disappointed with how the new administration has handled things so far, beginning with the student orientation that happened today. The meeting was planned to start at 3 PM, however I waited for nearly an hour until they let us in at 3:55. This was only the beginning of the issues as once we were all in we weren't allowed to unmute ourselves to ask any questions, and the questions that were asked in the chat were not addressed during the meeting at all. The meeting itself ended abruptly without the opportunity for people to ask questions at the end and the new principal was not even present as he was on vacation. Prior to the orientation, It was highly encouraged for everyone to attend the virtual orientation To try and address issues related to the pandemic and as a result many experienced these same issues.

I would definitely recommend magnolia 1 to everyone, but especially if your child has an IEP! They work with you and your child to make sure they have all the help and resources at their disposal in order to succeed! My oldest kid graduated 2020 and is attending college , the school works with their high school students starting 9th grade to get them motivated for college and also classes to help with taking the SAT’s. I also love the school because it’s small and you get to know the staff and they get to know your kids as well.

Posted: January 24, 2019

Some teachers better than others. Many of the teachers don't have respect to their students when they talk to them.

Posted: January 24, 2019

Principal needs to have more boundaries and rules with teachers and staffs.

Posted: January 24, 2019

Most of the teachers don't comply with special ed accommodations.

Posted: January 24, 2019

Posted: January 24, 2019

As a parent is an emotional roller coaster, to expect the teachers to care about your child's education as much as you do.

Posted: January 24, 2019

Some teachers do have the right approach other teachers need to have their approach recheck.

Posted: January 24, 2019

Some teachers need a lot of social skills not only with the students but with parents, specially new teachers.

Great school! Highly focus on education. The school provides extra support for the college preparedness. My son is in 12th grade and he is accepted all the UCs he applied. He decided to go to UC Berkeley. Without school's great support, he will not be able to go there. Robotics club is a great oppertunity for the students. I highly recommend this school.

After school tutoring is a great help.

Posted: April 21, 2017

They are professional and very helpful. They are willing to work out of the box.

Posted: March 28, 2017

My son has a strong sense of responsibility and respect. I believe these traits are learned both from home and school.

Posted: March 28, 2017

The principal is very involved with the parents. He has a proactive approach on parent's questions, suggestions, concerns.

Posted: March 28, 2017

I've seen the school administration involvement in helping parent's concerns with kid's learning difficulties.

Posted: March 28, 2017

We have not experienced this issue, therefore I cannot comment.

Posted: March 28, 2017

My son has daily homework. The after school program is very helpful in helping him complete it.

Posted: March 28, 2017

The school staff has been very helpful and approachable when I have concerns/requests.

Posted: March 28, 2017

My son enjoys attending this school. He is learning alot, he is doing well. It has been a positive experience for us.

Posted: April 27, 2016

Teachers are cool and work hard, also students are kept to a high standard. One example is that students are rewarded for positive and negative points in order to help ensure students understand where they are behaviorally.

Posted: April 27, 2016

MSA1 is a great place to work for. The admin is on the ball, and you can tell the teaching staff tries hard, are not burned out and will make sure that they are doing what they can do the best of their ability to instruct students in the newest and most innovative pedagogy strategies today. One particular novel approach that I haven't seen at other schools is the concept of home visits where the staff does at least 10 home visits each year to ensure a positive connection between teachers and parents. Also the coffee with the Admin that happens every month that ensures that same positive relationship between Admin and parents. You can tell that MSA1 favors a positive parent forward approach that also extends to students.

MSA1 is agreat school for everything education, staff, communication and ..... I am so happy that my daughter is one of the student of this school.

Posted: January 25, 2016

Students are respectful and interested in achieving, parents are supportive and involved, and faculty is professional and warm. A rigorous curriculum challenges all students to meet and exceed standards. MSA-1 offers intervention and support for struggling students to ensure success for all.

Posted: January 25, 2016

My daughter has alway gotten help when needed. Has attended MSA1 since 6th grade. My daughter looks forward to her senior year and college.

Posted: January 25, 2016

There is room for improvement, just exactly as there should be. The role of the teacher is not to reach a point at which they no longer have anything to learn. Therefore, what actually defines teacher effectiveness, is their ability to reflect and then apply what they learned from reflecting. The teaching staff here is dedicated to their professional development in their effort to better serve the entire student body in all applicable areas.

Posted: January 25, 2016

Homework gets a bad reputation as being this thing that is too much (no matter how little you give). However, it is important to remember that the modern student usually spends an obscene amount of time distracting themselves with so-called "social" media. In my experience, the homework load would be something handled in a couple hours time (maybe three on a particularly heavy day) if students simply had their technological devices such as smart phones and tablets taken away during that time meant for homework.

Posted: January 25, 2016

Developing a strong moral and ethical code among the student body is one of the highest priorities of the entire staff.

Posted: January 25, 2016

The school as is, is a good school. A caring and invested admin team is in place, working diligently to provide a safe, well-organized, academically advanced setting. The teachers go above and beyond their contractual obligations to the students, providing a plethora of after-school opportunities and additional tutoring for students at any level in their studies. As the campus continues to grow, adding facilities that will further improve upon what is already offered, the school will most surely reach a consistent, five-star rating.

My two sons are in Magnolia, they are happy in this school, the teachers really care for the kids education and the principal is very active with the parents, he makes you feel welcome everytime you go to the school, the ladies in the office are nice too. My boys feel safe here and that is very important for me.

Posted: January 25, 2016

Every now and then they have a dud, but they are not welcome back the following year. It can make for a long year but I'm sure the next year that will be solved.

Posted: January 25, 2016

Posted: January 25, 2016

They encourage kids to do their work and participate in activities. The staff involves the kids in projects.

Posted: January 25, 2016

The Principal is kind and knows each kid. The Dean Ms. Okamura is a great administrator, Mrs. Victoria is helpful and kind. The office staff is nice and quick. Mr. Ali really encourages the kids. My kids love this school.

Posted: January 25, 2016

I am extremely pleased with the faculty at MSA-1. I've been comutting my kids from Santa Clarita for two years now. Clearly, I would not be doing so if I didn't believe in the this school 100%. Extra props to Ms. Morely!!! :)

Magnolia Science Academy 1 is filled with exemplary and passionate teachers. Teachers conduct many hands-on projects and experiments. Class sizes are much smaller than other public schools in the area. MSA has many AP classes and electives to choose from. Students are well behaved in class.

Great school, smaller classes that public schools, focus on math and science wonderful staff, my oldest son graduated with honors and my two youngest ones currently attend msa1

I hope the orientation is not a little taste of whats in for us parents for the next school year. Very disorganized, didn't know where to go, the school didn't even have the school supply or the schedule for the students.
This school really need to get professional help in how to be organized. CRAZY

Best school in the region. Great teachers ! Very professional and caring staff ! I would recommend Magnolia Sience Academy 1 to all parents that want their child do well and get into top university and colleges.

This school is good with the education but there is a lot of bullying there i don't like it and some kids can be racists, and i cant concentrate on learning when all of the bullying is happening

My son is attending this school and his work improve very much . this school is really competent ... GREAT SCHOOL .

Posted: October 17, 2013

the dedication of the teachers and the entire MSA staff, makes the difference to this outstanding school

Posted: October 16, 2013

I think this school is great, the teachers are friendly and care about the kids and their schooling. When a child drops below a c in their grades they are required to take tutoring in that class to bring it up. They have many after school clubs and sports activities as well as frequent field trips some are just for good behavior and entertainment based instead of merely the requisite learning ones. It is a small school which makes it easier on new students and much less stressful than a big school would be.

So far MSA 1 is great! Its our first year here, we like evything about this school. School safety is awesome, the teachers are great. The best thing ttht everyone wears uniform, the day the students have a free dress day, to me they look weird with out uniform. Overall im in love with this school.

MSA 1 is a safe place for my kids. It's a safe place for smart kids.

Posted: August 16, 2013

This is a great school in my opinion. It can ensure you your child's safety and education. I was here for 4 years and never had any problems with the teachers. All the teachers there are willing to help and WILL teach.

When Magnolia had growing pains (having more than doubled due to lack of good public middle & high schools in Santa Clara), and some parents complained consistently, they were heard. This is a major difference thanks to being a public charter. The management moved swiftly to incorporate parent requests, brought in new leadership and replaced some teachers. This never happened in our old public school.

it is a great school where there is a safe enviornment and great teachers. The classes are great there is always something new to learn. The teachers help the students with the lessons if they dont understand them and make the lessons easy to learn. There are many diferent classes and after school activities for everyones taste. I like that everyone can express their opinion for many topics or school related things. i like that the school wants to know the opnions of the students and pearents in order to improve things.

The school Principal barely knows how to speak English; it is very difficult to communicate with him. The school has a weird attachment to Turkey and the Islam faith. I feel that religion and public education should be completely separate. The building has rat problems there is no field where students can play sport. They have a small square area surrounded by a metal gate where students are supposed socialize, play sports, and eat lunch. At times, there is no security or adults supervising the students in this "cage area". My daughter tells that guys, young and old, drive by and whistle or yell inappropriate comments to the female students. I feel bad that I let my daughter spend a year there just because I thought it was close to our house and she could walk to school. It is very under supervised and the school "cage: is in back of alley where homeless people congregate.

Wonderful school. My kid studies hard to keep up with the best student in her classroom. Competition brings success. Success brings better standards. They also play volleyball, chess many games and activities, picnics. Teachers and students are so dedicated. I am a happy parent.

All I can say is that school is very outstanding... I have been here for 4 years, and I'm enjoying it. Everyone is very friendly and the teachers are always happy to help you! The teachers would sometimes crack a funny joke or story to make us feel at ease. The school rules help us keep delinquents out of the way! The teachers give us helpful notes and study guides to help us prepare for tests. Along with fun, suspenseful review games.
