I agree with the review from 2024 that emphasizes this school's dedication to college-preparatory work and is not ideal if you are a student who wants to prioritize a social life. It all depends on what your priorities are for high school. As a first-generation low-income student, my priority was academics. While we do not have many AP classes and SAT prep is not available (something common among other schools in the area), when done correctly, the proximity Middle College has with Los Angles Southwest College CAN put you ahead of the game for college and scholarship admissions.

Sports are easy to join. Because we are a small school, sports are not as competitive as larger schools but you still have fun and build great relationships with your teammates and coaches. I played on the school's volleyball team for 3 consecutive years with my friends and we can confidently say that the relationships we built with some of the teachers and coaches are some that we feel we can go back on years after graduating.

Getting close to your counselor is also easier because of the school's small size. It's one counselor for less than 200 students. Sometimes you can walk into their office without an appointment, other times you can find them during your lunch break. There isn't a large communication barrier.

As a student, it is true that we receive good quality education. However, in any addiction outside of education, this school is s horrible fit. The main incentive to attending this still was the college classes, electives and enrichment classes pre-covid. As of now, we have strictly core classes, ap classes, and zero enrichment classes. Our elective classes are okay, and our core classes (STEM+) are barely okay. A lot of the teacher’s teaching styles aren’t great. Some staff can be unsupportive and quite frankly, straight up rude. All students can agree that this school is strictly for students interested in education ONLY. If you’d like your child to receive a high school experience with nice events, activities, maybe even socially, this school is not a good fit at all. And please do not factor in college classes as an incentive to attend this school because you can receive college courses from LASC at any school through the Talent Search program. Please don’t send your child here.

Middle College High School, is one of the best school in L.A. There has been many students over the recent years that were able to graduate and also obtain and AA degree from LASC. The school also gives students easy access to many extra curricular activities, for example sports. If you want to play a sport there are high chances you will be able to play. Middle college is no walk in the park, most of the work that was done in my English classes were readings that were preparing me for college level work. I can easily say the same for science. Math, its got to be worked on but everything else is good, and now that the school finally opened up its new building, its a major incentive to go here. Going here will also cut your number of years at a four year university, you just have to sacrifice some of your time and you can potentially save thousands of dollars!!
