My both kids studied at Mission Hill High School, both ended up being admitted to very good reputation Universities. My daughter graduated with a Bioengineering degree at UCSD last year; she is working at Scripps Health now. And my son is in his 2nd-year studying at UC Berkeley in Molecular and Cell Biology. Thanks to all the teachers and councilors at Mission High School for encouraging my kids. I didn't sign them up for any special programs or classes to help or guide how to write the application essays. However, students need to keep high GPA points, take some AP classes, and write a draft (for the UC system application essays) earlier to submit to one or two teachers to ask their opinions.
I highly recommend students sign up for school activities such as marching band and academic league, and do some summer volunteer or intern jobs.

I have two daughters at the school, and both are having a great experience. So far have had good communication from the administrators, counselors, and teachers communicate well directly with the students. Also one of my daughters competes in the soccer program and the head coach, Kino Valdez, and his assistant coaches are very good and it's a very competitive program.

The office has marked my student absent multiple times, even though she attends all her classes every day. I know other parents who have also received phone calls once or twice about absences when their students were present. I don't think they should mark them/call home by a couple of minutes late. It's permanent on their record. The school parking is overly crowded and so many students still roam the campus after the bell. If the student is excessively late, it's on them, but by a minute or two? Especially when they can't control the traffic nor driving the car (in most instances) I feel is unnecessary. Mission Hills is recommended by me only after they fix the system.

My daughter attended 9-12 and had an amazing experience. She was involved in ASB and played soccer and lacrosse. Soccer is very competitive and lots of politics involved.

As a parent, this school has been a disappointment. The first year (2018) the school had a principal that had been in place long enough to establish a structure and show some effective leadership. After the principal left, a new one with little skill or tact took over for one year only to be replaced by yet another principal. Given the change and the negative impact this has had, we will be moving our student to another school

As with all schools, some of the teachers are better than others when it comes to teaching ability. Despite that, most teachers respond to questions from students or teachers eventually.

With ineffective leadership, building character is an afterthought. Students, in general, are left to fend for themselves. As they are young and are lacking leadership, character traits like compassion and respect are hard to come by leaving many students feeling outcast.

Three principals in three years does not lend itself to effective leadership. As high school is only four years, this amount of turnover does not allow for a cohesive leadership strategy to be put in place

As leadership is ineffective, the compassion and respect that should be taught to the student body is missing. This leads to bullying (mostly verbal) and many students feeling outcast.

This school is being great for my son and daughter so far , and I have my other daughter who’s going to be part this great place. The only thing I’m a bit disappointed is on sports, I can’t believe my daughter never make it to play for girls soccer team, knowing she has a lot talent but I guess since she doesn’t play for any local club she’s been excluded EVERY SINGLE TIME THEY HAD TRYOUTS. Seems to me like the couches (have they’re favorites?)

My child will be graduating this year and has had a great experience. The school offers many AP and Honors classes, great sports, and great supports like the AVID program.

Mission Hills is an amazing school. I graduated last year with a bunch of art awards. The person who wrote about the ceramics teacher is far from being right. I had him and those who usually say they don't like a teacher are the ones that don't pay attention and don't like being told they've done something wrong. Thanks to that teacher I had a piece entered into an art show and accepted to be temporarily displayed in the San Diego art Museum. I graduated with the VAPA Senior Award. I've been in almost every art class, and yes MHHS is predominantly a sports school, the arts programs are amazing. The dance teacher became like a second mom, and so did the graphic design teacher. I would recommend this school to anyone. Now about the "jocks" and "rich white kids", jocks will exist at ANY school your child goes to. Any student at MHHS will tell you that there are more minorities than whites, and the 'rich' title is only said because of our new school. Sounds silly, but that's what MHHS is know as- the rich white kid school. No, it's just new. So if you're looking for a great school in San Marcos and can't decide between MHHS or SMHS, I recommend your child become a MHHS Grizzly.

This school is ok. It has great sports and ok academics. It is definitely not run by rich white kids like the last reviewer wrote. My child came from Orange County and Mission Hills has mostly minorities not rich white kids. The curriculum is standard and my child has a lot of free time on his hands. He rarely has homework and is in all honors classes. Not a great school but it could be worse.

I am very proud that my two girls are attending MHHS. This is their first year here (a sophomore and a senior) and they are doing very well both accademically and socially. I have found the staff to be both proactive and responsive to the needs of the students and their families. I am confident that the girls will each leave MHHS at graduation with all of the preparation for life that one can expect from a public high school.

I have had nothing good from my encounters with MHHS. Brad Lichtman has never once repsonded to my many emails regarding my childs needs as they arose through out the past 3 years. . He has his staff (poor souls) try and handle. He could at least reply to me that my issues are going to be addressed. It is email after email-I have to do all the follow up. I feel my childs education has suffered as a result of this schools failure to communicate and take action when it WAS NEEDED. If your child is a self starter and academically sound , you are fine. If your child is struggling-good luck. I find most of the staff harried and stressed. My second child is going to a private school , will be worth every penny.

In a couple months I will end my freshmen year here at MHHS, and all I can say is that this school literally changed my life! PROS: 1). Teachers are amazing. My Algebra I teacher literally saved my math grade (which was awful), mainly because of her awesome teaching. 2). School spirit is times a thousand. Cardinal and Gold, all the way! 3). As I said previously, peers are great. My friends here have made me come out of my shell and I couldn't be happier. 4). Sports/Extracurricular Activities know now bounds. Coaches are awesome and encouraging! 5). The lunch food is very good, and healthier than most. HOWEVER: lines can be long, so you have to get it asap. CONS: 1). Some teachers (rare) are not popular. AT ALL. 2). The school is basically built to catipult you into a California University or College. It's a little difficult if you plan to go *whispers* out of state. 3). Counselors aren't always the best source of info regarding courses, etc. Message to incoming Freshmen: ASK OLDER STUDENTS for the advice too. Overall, I love MHHS and never wish to leave. This school propels you to do the best you can in anything. The pride of this school is solely the students.

MHHS was a great school my freshman year. The teachers were all great, and the students seemed to all get along pretty well. I couldn't of asked for a better first year of high school.

Mission Hills High School is a fairly new school and they consistently exceed their own goals in academics. We moved from the LAUSD and couldn't be happier with the schools in this area, especially MHHS.
