Bear Valley Middle School

This school has potential. Overall it lacks interest from its students and terminal disappointment from overworked and underpaid staff. Since the pandemic, teaching in a public setting isn’t the same. Almost a complete loss of interest coming from staff. Unfortunately it all makes sense why.
I think the only option is to homeschool your students and find viable healthy social engagements for them.

I graduated from 8th grade at BV and this school sucks. Teachers aren’t the best at teaching and when it comes to violence or drugs the school doesn’t seem to care for it. The principle is a well known friend in my family but doesn’t do the best at his job neither do the assistant principals like the 6th grade assistant principal. Fights happened almost every day and some gang folks went there. Teachers are very strict on what girls wear and not about what boys wear. If a teacher sees you wearing a tank top than they will automatically send you to the office. The kids there were annoying but some of them were enjoyable like my friends but a lot of snitches go there. Overall don’t go there.

New principal this year, gate program is back and they offer advance math classes. This school is doing great things.

School provides a supportive environment for learning. Elective offerings are great, especially robotics and computers.

Light homework, not every day, and shows effort too. I come home with homework maybe 2 days a week.

With the new principal I think that the schools really stepping it up, most of the teachers are great, expecially the band/chorus teacher. They offer great spanish, art, music, and robotics programs. The school has had a new start and I have really enjoyed my 7th grade year!

We were new to this district so this was our first year at Bear Valley, and after reading some of the reviews I was a bit nervous that we would have a bad experience. But fortunately that was not the case, and me and my child both love the school and staff! They have an awesome robotics team that has won a lot of competitions, (there is a huge yellow trophy made of Legos in the office that they won at Lego Land) and they have BVTV where the students learn about production and make T.V commercials for the school. From what I hear a lot of districts are really wanting BVTV at there schools because it is such a great program. They are getting an awesome new principal for 2014-2015, and the PTA is really great and helps out so much! I am expecting nothing but great things to come for the remainder of my child's time here.

This a terrible school. I am currently an 8th grader, and you have no idea how relieved I am to get out of here. It has been three years of pure torture and it feels like it never ends. More than half of the school is failing all of their classes, and when teachers say they care, they don't. There is only about seven good teachers throughout the whole school and staff. It is a terrible learning environment and why come here when there are so many more high level schools close by. This school has barely any funding and will not improve your child's worldly knowledge. Whatever funding they do have, they spend it on unnecessary projects that do not contribute anything to our learning. If you actually want your child to succeed in life, do NOT send them here!

Last year I removed my child from this below average school. My child was behind due to multiple factors, bullying was a big one. One year late I'm happy to report that she has completed 2 years of math with in 10 months. Not just completed, she has mastered it. In addition she has increased their reading level by 4 years. The school, district. and staff did nothing to help her. As a matter of fact their neglect( refusing to provide an IEP) and abuse destroyed her self esteem. Today I am happy to report that she is thriving. I am so grateful we left the Escondido Elementary School District.

My student was stuck in a one room class as an experiment that they say prevents divorce later in life. My non-religious student was preached to by the teacher about how god wants him to do his homework. We were hassled about his number of absences when he was battling a serious health condition. I feel I was not treated fairly since he was a transfer student from the other side of town. Glad these people are not part of our lives any longer....

Bear Valley MIddle School is not a bad school. I am tired of people saying that it is. All of my friends are here, and I love life with my friends. Poway is not teaching harder stuff, everyone just thinks they do, so they give them more money, for GATE program, and no one gives BVMS money donations.

this school is ok and fun at times and the seventh grade math teacher lady teaches too fast she mean sometimes and i understand wen she teaches slowly and everybody nedds help in that class cuz she teaches to fast and ya
