CHAMPS is a great chapter school for the creative student and especially for students who don’t fit the standard CA public high school model. I highly recommend CHAMPS for any student who is interested in the theater, visual arts, film, robotics, or design because CHAMPs has an extraordinary selection of arts related courses in addition to the A-G standard requirements. CHAMPS will make sure your student has a good education but even more so a more diverse one than is available at many Ca public high schools.

My daughter is a senior at CHAMPS and my older daughter graduated from CHAMPS in 2018. We feel so fortunate to have found this school and it's incredible teachers and staff. Students are able to explore and enhance their talents in the many academies, including theater, dance, music, robotics, media, and written arts. Academics can be challenging as CHAMPS offers many AP and honors classes, and teachers understand and incorporate the creativity of their students. If you're looking for a school that is inspiring, diverse, academic, and innovative, then you should visit CHAMPS.

I have both a 9th and 11th grader currently at CHAMPS and we’re really pleased. I wish I’d had the opportunity to attend a school like this that values the uniqueness of each student - from those who already have a passion/talent and have experience to those still exploring and figuring out what their talents and interests are. It’s also been a good school academically and offers several AP classes. The college counselors seem helpful and are apparently doing a good job, as we attended a talk at the end of last year where CHAMPS seniors going off to college gave tips and advice. This particular group included students going off to Stanford, Duke, Brown, Point Park, UC and CSU schools and others. Several dance students have gotten into top dance companies and conservatories. My 9th grader just started in the school’s renowned dance academy and loves it. The student body is a talented, diverse, accepting group of kids and the staff, teachers and counselors have been extremely helpful and supportive. I’m a huge supporter of school choice and feel very fortunate that we discovered this school. (By the way, it’s not just performing arts - other academies include award-winning robotics, media arts, global impact and more.)

This school is wonderful. Aside from the forward thinking and "outside of the box" curriculum, the staff is very supportive in assisting students with issues outside of academics. Everyday there is feedback from the principal via voice mail - and the talent of the student body is amazing. My child attended 3 years and I am so glad she was at Champs. This school is great and the shows are amazing. I recommend this achool!

Administration just doesn't address the problems. It doesn't mean problems don't exist or take care of themselves. giving 0 points to leadership. The administration staff is heavily overstaffed, but problems like drugs, shooting, fights are not being addressed. Administration is non-responsive. 0 supervision.

This was by far the worst year of my child's life and the worst parenting decision I've ever made. Drug use is rampant here. Fights happen and both the instigator and the victim are punished -- usually the victim is treated more harshly than the offender. Teachers are mediocre at best. Do not send your child here.

This school has some great teachers (and some amazing new young teachers). They have talented kids. The administration that is left (the turnover this year has been very high), doesn't effectively interact with the students. If you are looking for a school where the Principal greets students, has a rapport with them, knows their names, and encourages them to be the best they can be, you won't find it here. Mediocrity seems to be the norm from the left over admin. If you are looking for an administration who supports the arts and understands the unique challenges, you will be disappointed. The arts faculty are enthusiastic and dedicated, so, if you are an artist you will feel supported and will be encouraged by these faculty. No school is perfect, but parents should be well aware of before making the choice.

It is hard to develop character when you just want to add and keep bodies for their dollar value. You attract students with character by presenting and acknowledging the character of your students for the greater community to see. It is the law of attraction. It's not just having required community service hours....

The administrative turnover at the school this year has been high. The Executive Director, 2 Assistant Principals, the Director of Student Services and the Communications Director all resigned this year. The leftover admin now has very little diversity. They tend to over promise and under deliver. There seems to be a leadership vacuum at this school.

This school does not put all the students into one learning bubble out caters to each individual helping them become their best versions of themselves - art is incorporated in all classes as well making the journey of learning more enjoyable for the student - my son graduated from champs with honors and is now completing his first year of college at CalArts University granted full scholarship with HP's - he struggled in school his whole life until Champs. My second son is starting this coming year and i cant wait for his journey to begin the teachers are unique and wonderful A+++

My daughter just finished her first year at CHAMPS. She chose the school after we toured and noticed that the students were happy, engaged and proud to answer our questions. We found the teachers to be passionate, engaging and reasonable. We encountered students being treated with respect, autonomy and high expectations. Some students are mature enough to handle that, while others (often those fleeing traditional, punitive focused public schools) arrive with a chip on their shoulder and aren't ready to take their education seriously. Fortunately, we saw those students self-select out. If your child is dedicated to a performing art, writing, robotics, or one of the other academies, than this is a school where their passion will be taken seriously and where they will thrive. If your kid is just looking for an easy ride or to escape your neighborhood school, probably not the place for them.

This school is one of the charter school in CA, ever since my son has been in this school he has been getting good grades an every day he comes back from school i see his growth in being a smart kid, not only is this a great school, it also includes the ARTS curriculum in the students , from media to music, all students enjoy having the arts in the school. 5/5 champs KEEP IT UP, :)

Our daughter is a sophomore at CHAMPS and we couldn't be happier. The teachers are dedicated, skilled, creative and innovative, providing multiple approaches to content allowing the kids to learn in ways that work for them. The school's production of In the Heights just concluded and these kids were amazing. Opening night was Broadway quality and it was inspiring to see the Academies come together to produce a show. Our daughter was honored to be part of this cast of hardworking, talented kids who rehearsed for 2 months and it showed! The facilities could be better and the governance council and PTSA are working on that aspect. PTSA annual giving drive is underway which will provide funds for all Academies. It just goes to show, it's not the facilities but the people who make or break the success of the school!

This is my first year at CHAMPS and I love it so much the teachers are amazing like no other school I've been to or will ever go to. They take your personal needs into consideration and theres many teachers there that are just amazing, indescribable. The counselors/teachers have helped me try to accomplish my dream of theatre tech and college, something I'll always be grateful for. The atmosphere is amazing, no one judges you and it's a very nice, comforting environment to learn in an everyday basis.

Don't just read the reviews ... bring your student for a tour of the school during session ... you will see the encouraging, charismatic learning environment and student engagement for yourself! Another parent wrote this in their review ... but this is how we came to choose CHAMPS. My daughter and I visited three schools during her 8th grade year, and she chose CHAMPS as a result of what she saw during our tour. We weren't disappointed! She loves school for the first time I can remember. Come and visit ... you'll see, too!

I was a bit skeptical after transferring to this school a little more than a month after starting sophomore year. Having come from a poorly managed LAUSD high school that failed to address my needs - both socially and academically, I applied to CHAMPS in a last resort effort to salvage my high school experience. Hearing mixed reviews about the CHAMPS experience since my middle school years at the Walter Reed IHP, I wasn't too sure if it was the right decision to make such an abrupt change. Thankfully, I went with my gut instinct and transferred - proving to be one of the best decisions of my life. Though the school isn't perfect, I have been provided with the opportunity to take several rigorous AP classes, play at the House of Blues with the award-winning jazz band, and more recently be a part of the renowned debate team. Though kids at the school can be rude and cliquey at times, I have made far more meaningful social connections then I would have at my previous school. If you're a parent or student who is interested in a unique high school experience, definitely consider CHAMPS. College acceptance rates are eve on par with most LA private schools. Only downside is the campus..

We have a new principal at Champs that is continuing the great work of our previous principal with her own spin! She is helping to bring new programs to our school to benefit the parents and students. We have been having Parent ed type programs aimed at teen issues all parents need to be aware of. Looking forward to more new additions to this wonderful school. Come check it out!!!

My son is a freshman in the jazz band and he could not be happier. He had a tough time in middle school with his peers. The environment at CHAMPS harbors students who support one another. The curriculum is rigorous! This school is definitely for the more motivated student. New principal is very present and involved. School needs more parent involvement. There is no PTA/booster club president so meetings have been cancelled.

My daughter has thrived at Champs since she transferred here several weeks after starting 9th grade at another school. The teachers, for the most part, are young, enthusiastic and creative in their approach to teaching. They're not jaded like many LAUSD teachers who are just waiting for their retirement package to kick in. These teachers WANT to be here and they want to make a difference in their students lives. I'm not saying this is true of every teacher, but a good percentage of them fit this description. It's a great school for kids who don't necessarily want to be in a typical academic environment. There's much more room to express individuality and creativity. The new principal is a bit on the old-fashioned side and I hope she eases up on the strict rules she's imposed, like dress coding, since she started this year. She needs to have a more compassionate understanding of her student body. But overall, I couldn't be happier with the education my daughter is receiving at Champs.

CHAMPS young enthusiastic teachers. Changes this year at the administrative level are troublesome and confusing. It seems a little too top heavy with a principal, assistant principal, E.D, Etc. Weekly info from the school has declined. VERY limited sports. No orchestra, but there is great jazz band. Performing arts is strong, with multi media being 2nd. Robotics used to be very strong, but have not heard this year. Honors and AP classes.available. The college guidance team: If you want your kid to get into a college that is a good fit for them, Anne and Yasmine will make that happen. They are knowlegeble, passionate, and really like and understand teensagers. I overheard one mom say, "when Anne gets up to talk to the kids at meetings, she is greeted like a rock star" and that is true. There is a BOD, .I don't know what they are doing. They don't seem forthcoming. They seem to want to put more kids than can fit. (my opinion) because more kids=more money. And while that is true a lot of people like CHAMPS precisely because it is smaller. There is no PTA. There is a governance council, and booster club. My student agrees that the kids get along better than at most schools.

CHAMPS has made major, major headway in recent years. They have a college acceptance rate that rivals many of the top private schools. The college counselor Anne Cochran has been named national "College Counselor that Changes Lives", 2013 "YALE Educator of the Year" and is a correspondent on college success for FOX NEWS. Many of the educators at CHAMPS have many years of experience in the entertainment industry and continue to write, produce and direct professional theatre and film. There are several award winning teachers and the performing arts specialists are at the top of their game. Many arts educators at CHAMPS arrived from major universities, THE MUSIC CENTER and schools like LACHSA and Juilliard.

We love this school. The teachers and the staff are very committed to the students. My daughter has been really happy so far. The only downside of the school is the location. My daughter is okay with it though.

I love CHAMPS! I am a sophomore and I love it here. The teachers are amazing and they are all very supportive and understanding. The staff is amazing and friendly. Overall CHAMPS is awesome.
