They even have Learning Coach Classes that cover everything from learning styles to dealing with a difficult child in positive ways. I recently learned about advocating for the child with special needs through CAVA.

Bullying is so not tolerated. The virtual classrooms are very well monitored by Teachers as well as all in person outings and functions. My child is most safe from bullying as she learns via computer from the safety of our home.

My daughter is in her 10th year with CAVA. I feel she really benefited from starting in kindergarten with CAVA. Most important to me is her safety. She thinks school is great! I want her to enjoy learning and to see her education processes as positive and beneficial for her. She is very challenged by the awesome curriculum provided by K-12. Over the years I have researched other schools and other curricula and I have yet to come across a better package than K-12. We started mapping out her college plans in 8th grade with support and information provided by CAVA. She's involved in fun extra-curricular clubs with other CAVA students. She enjoys meeting and hanging out with other CAVA students at routine "outings" provided by CAVA and supervised by CAVA Teachers. My daughter joined the National Junior Honor Society in 6th grade. I am more involved and have a better understanding of my daughter's abilities and potential because of her attendance at CAVA. Her state testing scores are great. The first time she took the State Science Test, she scored super high. CAVA offers Science from 1st grade on. I just can't say enough about how happy I am that my daughter attends CAVA - Sonoma. I have 7 other children, all grown. The older kids all went to public schools; brick and mortar. Two went to a K-8 Charter School for a few years but graduated from the local high schools. I wish they all could have gone to CAVA.

Students are able to work at their own pace. That means that if they need more time or less time to complete a lesson, that's fine.

Teachers go out of their way to provide additional support. If a student needs intervention/support services, CAVA offers individual and group support per subject for as long or as much as the student needs.

From kindergarten through high school, students receive encouragement, support, lessons, and engage in class discussions concerning respect, academic integrity, personal responsibility, etc. Teachers monitor behavior in virtual classes and address inappropriate behaviors promptly.

Parents and students always know who is who and even have ongoing contact with Principals, Directors, and other Admin. staff. For instance, the Principal sends out a newsletter and periodic praise reports re: Teachers, Students, Specific Class Projects, etc.

I don't think there really is any. As soon as your kid is enrolled, you don't hear back from anyone except the assigned teacher.

Not applicable for this program. The kids never met one another and I had to rely on other methods to find homeschooled children to socialize.

Our teacher provided no real support. He had over 50 students. He wasted our time on "Class Connect" every week by spending the majority of his time checking himself out on the screen while talking about his band and other irrelevant subjects.

Abysmal.
I previously homeschoolef and had massive amounts of help through our local charter. We moved, so I let the kid enroll in that local public school for a year. She fell behind. I decided to homeschool again to catch her up with the "individualized curriculum" they tout. It was a crock of bologna. NOTHING was ever done to help. I was repeatedly told just to give her answers so she'd "master" the content according to their computer system. Now everything is worse than ever.

I started begging for help for my child before school began. I was told the curriculum would be tailored to her needs. That was an outright lie. NOTHING was done to support her learning nor my "coaching". The teacher kept telling me to just keep spoon feeding her answers because it would eventually "click". She's now further behind and more frustrated than ever.

This is a response to the most recent review. K-12, Inc., is the corporation which provides all K12 online schools in various states. While CAVA is considered a public school, they are NOT representative of the CA public school system. CAVA could possibly lose their state funding if the API does not improve. Their test scores are abysmal. I do not recommend anyone enrolling their child in K12, Inc., schools. They are a right wing corporate owned organization based in Virginia--their only interest in the education of children is to make as large a profit as possible.

CAVA--San Joaquin. DO NOT SEND YOUR CHILD TO THIS HIGH SCHOOL. This "school" does not inform parents upon enrollment that their child's courses will not get them into California state universities. We moved to CA from the east coast two months ago, enrolled our child in CAVA, and just discovered these requirements on our own. We are now removing our child and enrolling in another school. And though our child has spent time earning all A's and A+'s at CAVA, our child now will start the year over so as to remove these useless classes from our child's transcript. If this school is representative of California's public schools, the system is a joke.

DO NOT SEND YOUR CHILD TO CAVA OR ANY OTHER ONLINE SCHOOL IF YOUR CHILD HAS GOALS TO ATTEND A UNIVERSITY STRAIGHT OUT OF HIGH SCHOOL BECAUSE THEY ARE NOT A-G APPROVED. FOR CA STUDENTS, CHECK DOORWAYS WHICH LIST SCHOOLS AND THEIR COURSES THAT ARE QUALIFIED FOR UC AND CSU SCHOOLS. MY SON TOOK BIOLOGY AND WORLD HISTORY. THESE COURSE ARE WASC ACCREIDTED AND GOOD FOR HIM TO GRADUATE HIGH SCHOOL BUT NOT FOR A UNIVERSITY. ITS WORSE WITH INSIGHTS, THAT SCHOOL ISNT ON THE LIST PERIOD. CAVA AND OTHER ONLINE SCHOOL WORK GREAT FOR HIGH SCHOOL GRADS ONLY. PLEASE DO YOUR HOMEWORK MOM'S AND DAD'S. GOOD LUCK, MOM

Poor tech support, too many issues with K12 software. Do not use this school if your student has special education needs and is attending the high school program. School should not label itself as a full inclusion school as they are unable to consistently provide appropriate special education services. Ironically the vendors they use for educational support have more cohesive curriculum and fewer tech issues.

We've been learning at home with California Virtual Academy @ Sonoma for about four years now. The curriculum is fantastic, the teachers are fabulous. While I wish the API was as high as our neighborhood school, Sonoma Mountain Elementary, test scores are not everything just as learning in the home environment might be great for some and not for others. If you are considering teaching/learning at home, CAVA @ Sonoma should be at the top of your list of choices for that endeavor.
