Over the past four years, Ive seen a noticeable decline in the environment at Olympian High School. The surrounding area has changed significantly due to rapid housing development, and with it, theres been a rise in disruptive behavior. On multiple occasions, Ive observed students loitering near elementary schools during school hours, engaging in activities such as smoking and using inappropriate language, with little concern for supervision.
As someone who has lived in various parts of San Diego, Ive seen the difference a safe, focused school environment can make. Unfortunately, Olympian no longer offers the same sense of security and academic focus it once did.
If your priority is a learning environment that emphasizes safety, discipline, and strong academic culture, I would suggest researching other schools before making your decision.

I like the system they have for my grade level child. I like that the my sons teacher is systematic and consistent with her teaching style. I like that the school has strict guidelines to protect the schooled children. The school staff display friendliness and are approachable. I pray that the school staff and management (e.g. Principals and administrative staff) continue a great job and highest moral, ethical and outstanding academic standards!

We moved from Fairfax Virginia outside of the Capital, it was terrible. Both my sons are excelling since moving to this school system and are straight A students. Excellent teachers and coaches work here. The school has year round schooling which makes a big difference where there are not large gaps in attendance.

To give back ground, my child is about to graduate and has been a straight A student her whole school career. They have never been in trouble for anything until coming to Olympian. I boufht my home in this area because this school was known as one of the best schools in the district that focus on education. How wrong we were!
In 2 years we have battled Rude office staff, especially the attendance lady and Front desk personel. We have been called liars when we say we are told something (even when presented them with written proof). We have had teachers that have told their students that it isn't their job to teach the students because there isnt enough time in the day. When the students ask for help are told to look on YouTube! We have delt with Bullying, Drugs, Alcohol and Discrimination all on campus and some of those from Teachers and Staff
Homework: this will depend on the Teacher. Some offer a smaller managable amount adding up to an hour or 2 a day total. While others will give out up to 3 hours for just the one class. My child on Average has 3-4 hours a day of homework.
The mental wellness of your child will be ignored.
The school has potential with some of the staff they do employ that truly care, but the sheer number of those who don't, outweigh the good.
Especially if there are any issues. It will be like talking to a brick wall for your students and you once you decide it is time to step in. Your child will never be believed no matter what is said, the proof preaented and then will be labeled as trouble.
This school needs to be better for thir students and the families in the community. It is clear they have way too many students and they cant keep up with the demand. No one is on the same page and it ahows.

Excellent experience. From the minute you arrive at the main office you will be received with a smile and very nice and helpful receptionist. Everyone working at this school are amazing. My son is truly enjoying his high school years and is learning the skills he needs for the future. The kids in this school are very respectful and seem to be enjoying their campus too. The principal is very nice and he is such a hard worker. I love the spirit the school has and I'm very thankful to have my son as part of this great school.

Always enough homework but not overwhelming, so my son sits everyday at least 1 hour and maximum 2 hours of home work.

Amazingly knowledgeable and very friendly easy to approach teachers. My son has some interesting stories every single day about his classes which tells me how interesting and fun these awesome teachers teach!

My two sons attend this school. They both have loved their experience at Olympian, both are also involved in Athletics. The curriculum is challenging and all students are advised to take AP/Honors/Accelerated courses at least once. The majority of the teachers are very supportive and passionate about their subject. Parent involvement at this school is great. The information sessions and workshops are always well attended. I did have a couple of minor issues trying to get in touch with the counselor; it took her a few days to get back to me. It wasn't anything of much importance, so I didn't make a big fuss about it.
This school is currently the number one in the district and in the top 1,000 high schools in the entire U.S.
As a parent, I like that they emphasize attending 4-year institutions straight out of high school. They offer plenty of workshops on applying, financial aid, and scholarships.
As students, I know my kids do stress about the amount of homework and the Common Core Curriculum. They also mention that many students are disrespectful and sometimes loud in class. I was able to attend Parent Visitation Day a couple of times and did notice a few students disrupting class, but nothing out of hand. Overall I believe this is a great school, if your son/daughter is very driven and likes to be academically challenged, this is their school.

worst school ever ! honestly i don't like olympian high school the teachers are really bad , olympian expects a lot from one to the point where its just to much stress I'm really done of olympian sadly i can't change schools because supposedly its the best in the district yeah its true but its because they stress the students way to much to the a point where its just bad , if you have a chance not to go to olympian don't go because its a bad school theres like 4 good teacher out of like 25 i would say or more , one half are really strict teachers that treat you like college students and will give you 1 packet of 8 pages per day , I'm a freshmen and get homework for each class , then less than the other half are teachers who don't care at all but students, you might think thats good but believe me its not because they won't just give you A they will expect you to do all good even though they don't even teach at all so when it comes to test you are doomed , so good luck dear students who parents think olympian is a good school for you only because its rated number 1 in the district , its not about the school its about the persons who want to succeed in life and be someone in life

We enrolled our daughter here since we came from Hawaii, which she was doing poorly in school, and I am very happy we did. Her grades have gone up and she absolutely loves the school, they have a great program, I love the communication from the teachers and school, they are doing a great job!!

I am currently a senior here and have been attending since sophomore year. This skill is founded on great principles and really focuses on our education. I absolutely love this school and will miss it once I leave. The teachers are always helpful and make learning interesting. It has a great vibe that everyone can just be able to get along with one another. Our motto, " Where Champions are Made!"
