The Cambridge School is a private school in San Diego that has an excellent academic curriculum teaching the students to think deeply and thoughtfully. The wise and caring teachers teach the students to read, write and speak well. Also the staffs and teachers work hard to create a safe environment where students can flourish and grow to be thoughtful leaders. And every high school students can join a varsity sport like basketball, cross country, flag football, volleyball and etc… The athletic director and coaches are caring, positive and empowering to the students.

Going on 9 years at this school and couldn't be happier. The school has grown tremendously through the years. Larger student body, more teachers, more staff, and wider variety of classes and sports. Parents are an incredible asset here volunteering to make events first class.
Teachers are incredibly talented and helpful in every grade. Looking forward to the last few years in high school!

This school deals with bullying by bringing up children in a community where your classmates and your fellow students aren't just your classmates or fellow students, but your family. By finding mission fit children at a young age, The Cambridge School is able to shape the students into thoughtful and kind scholars. Bullying does not take place at Cambridge because the children care too much about one another to do such a thing.

Amazing! There is no where our son would have thrived more. He has had the opportunity to take classes that are unusual for most middle and high school students, and has enjoyed the teachers who taught them. The curriculum and the culture of the school have shaped him in marked ways. We know he is well prepared for college, but more importantly, for life!

While no human institution is perfect by any stretch, our family has found The Cambridge School to be a place where we can thrive. Most notable for us is how each of our 3 children are known by their teachers which allows them to be guided in ways specific to their strengths and weaknesses. From our grammar school child who explodes with the excitement to learn, to our middle school child who is transitioning from excitement to understanding depth, and our high school student who is beginning to grasp the commitment and dedication it takes to pursuit beauty... We can't imagine a better place for our children to be challenged intellectually and spiritually. Cheers to an institution that seeks to do it well!

Overall terrible. The tuition is outrageous and continues to climb every year. The sports program is slow to evolve while the sports that have flourished are the ones that the school picks on much smaller schools for cheap trophies. Basketball and volleyball are the shining stars while pulverizing smaller schools. No class.

Teachers are NOT willing to provide additional assistance. They are way overloaded with work since many wear many hats to help the short staffed school. I’ve had my children have plenty of incidents where the homework was nothing but busy work. Most evenings homework took over an hour.

The teachers care but they’ve had plenty of problems. 2015 school year had a teacher sabotage the class and threw away all tests, homework and quizzes. Quit a month into the year. That class had to redo all the work. Many teachers leave for various of reasons but I have talked with a few that felt underpaid and unappreciated.

There is ZERO help for students with learning disabilities. It doesn’t exist. Having tutoring is NOT having an expert help someone with a disability. I personally know families that have left that have received zero cooperation.

Bullying is rampant like with most schools. Some of the younger teacher aides are bullies themselves. Singling out children that are Caucasian and taking the sides of any Asian child. I’ve witnessed it first hand. It’s really quite sad.

Teachers are always willing to provide additional assistance to students in need. Homework for 3rd grade takes around 30-45 minutes per weekday. The homework is thoughtfully chosen to help students and not just busy work.

The teachers really take the time and effort to get to know each student and their unique personalities. The teachers are loving, caring and put in much time and effort into their calling as teachers. They are always available to meet with or talk with parents and to help students do their best.

We are very happy with Cambridge. We have been here for 6 years and seen our children grow in intellect, character, and leadership abilities. The small school allows for our students to be known by their teachers and have so many opportunities to lead and participate in school activities. I love the conversations that I have with my children around the dinner table. They talk about things like logical fallacies, theology, virtue ethics,etc. I see them becoming interesting people. That makes me really happy.

I worked as an educator for ten years in both public and private schools. The Cambridge School is by far the most exceptional school on all levels. My children attended The Cambridge School since kindergarten. I can say with confidence this school has exceeded even my high expectations. I've seen tremendous achievement and growth, not only in my kids' academics, but in their relationships with God. They truly delight in learning and have developed a deep desire to love others the way Christ loves. Our family is beyond blessed to be a part of The Cambridge School!

Cambridge is an exceptionally supportive environment within its framework offering a very strong and challenging academic environment. I have seen times when families with 1 or 2 children might benefit from homeschooling because they have strong ideas on how their child needs lots of special attention. At the same time, the teachers really want students to succeed - and value not only academic contributions. And they want students to develop grit over the years - they come along side the students to encourage it.

The school is wonderful at leading, guiding, forming - the parents and students - and staff. As parents, one is taught to keep emails to 4 sentences or less - otherwise to set up a meeting with the teacher or administration. Over 6 years as a parent, I have always been able to respectfully state my concerns and have been confident that my thoughts are carefully considered. I don’t always ‘get my way’, but I know that I have been heard and respect that the school is steering a straight course. The Leadership has a clear mission and vision and consults them in every decision as they guide the school.

The teachers are called the ‘living curriculum’. They embody the virtues. In the Upper School (gr 7-12) the teachers share more of their lives with the students. The Peacemakers ministry is taught and modeled from K4-12 - what a blessing to see intense 7 gr girls struggling through their natural drama, practicing forgiveness and how to go directly to someone, rather than gossiping.

Homework is meaningful, to solidify what has been diligently taught. The school has students keep track of how long they work on homework every once in a while to ensure that the actual amount is reasonable (vs the perceived amount while being distracted by technology...).

2017: Last night in the rain storm, by battery died at school. After a 10-hr work day, the Head of Upper School drove home to get his jumper cables so that my car full of kiddos wouldn’t have to wait 45 minutes for AAA. The school talks about valuing community - and the teachers and staff live it.

2014: Our daughters are entering 3rd and 6th grade this year, and we couldn't be more pleased with The Cambridge School. Our elder hated being in front of a crowd; after six months at TCS she was volunteering to enter a recitation contest. Our younger daughter is a firecracker; we are thankful that at TCS developing godly character and cultivating the virtues is as important as developing ones mind and have seen her learn to love to do both. Having homeschooled, I found TCS uses all my dream curriculum (including Singapore Math and Institute for Excellence in Writing). The teachers love their students and love learning themselves. The 20 minute drive each way is worth it.

We joined the Cambridge School late this fall, and wow! What an amazing experience. Being faced with many challenges as a "late admissions" family, we can report that the school administration, the teachers, students and families have welcomed us warmly and helped us through the challenges of this process in a rewarding and positive way. We love the character and mode of education that is available at Cambridge: We love sending our kids to a school where the teachers are concerned very specifically with both cultivating the capacity of the heart toward good actions as well as the capacity of the mind toward great knowledge. After our children began attending we also saw a surprising shift in their conversations away from being primarily focused on people and events of their personal day, toward ideas, concepts and discoveries they had made during their day. Additionally, we have the spark and delight for learning that had faded away in our 3rd grader return. We are very pleased to be pat of this school community.

The best school in San Diego! It's an amazing thing when you see something actual live up to and exceed all the hype: welcome to The Cambridge School! My middle school age son is being challenged for the first time after attending several other Christian schools in the area and is loving it! He is taking Latin, Logic, Mandarin, Geometry, Poetry, Bible, History covering the Graeco-Roman era, Literature, Art, Speech & Debate, Physical Science and Physical Education. He's also participating in school athletics. He describes school as fun and the discussions around our dinner table have been transformed through the delight all three of our children experience each day at Cambridge. I have two middle school age sons and I can't tell you how thankful I am as a dad for the strong male leadership in the school partnering with me in the training of my boys to become virtuous men. The school is consistently Classical in its curriculum & pedagogy and deeply committed to the historical, living Christian faith. I've seen a lot of Christian schools but never one like this that held to a deep, theological faith combined with academic rigor. It's amazing! And, that's why this school is great!

My wife and I moved to San Diego two years ago. We have kids in 6th and in 4th grade at The Cambridge School. I was blown away from day one at how welcoming the other students were to my kids. They actually said, "You're the new girl, the one we have been praying for". I was relieved and thankful for such a loving environment for my children. Now that we are in our third year at Cambridge we can really see the benefits of this classical Christian education. Our children have become deep thinkers, analyzing everything they see and hear through the filter of the true, good, and beautiful. They can identify the story of Christ in every movie they see and book they read. They are excited about learning new things. They are excited to read again. And, they are excited about Mandarin, Latin, Progymnasmata (composition), grammar, science, math, history and how they are all integrated, because all truth is God's truth. We love the teachers, who know our kids well. We love the community. We love the curriculum. We love the mission and vision of the school. My kids are not just learning information, but they are learning how to think, reason, and clearly articulate their ideas.

We have been at this school for many years and have multiple children here. While no school is perfect, there is a lot that is going right here in the areas that we care about most--teachers who care about my children academically, personally and spiritually, a solid, thoughtful curriculum and a community we really enjoy and appreciate. My kids love to go school each morning and come back excited about what they've learned both in and out of class. What more could I ask for!?

Above and beyond expectations! I have heard great things about The Cambridge School over the years but it wasn t until we arrived this fall that I was finally able to taste and see how incredible this school really is. I have watched in just 6 short weeks each of my three children come to life as they engage around their studies. My oldest is especially riveted by his passionate educators and has already made it very clear that he must graduate from this fantastic school. I love that there is a strong male presence in the upper faculty for my growing boys to be mentored and instructed by on a daily basis. As The Cambridge School continues to build their upper school, their mission and goal for all graduates is that they would be contagious Christians, virtuous scholars, humble servants and equipped stewards. What a beautiful portrait of what is being cultivated in the minds and souls of our children! I give thanks for all those who have sacrificed so that a school such as this could be available to us.

We are not angry parents or trolls. We are parents who wish to express our honest assessment of our years at Cambridge. We agree with previous postings about excessive teacher turnover. It is undeniable and one only need ask how many teachers are new this year, last year, or have left in the past 5 years. We also saw 3+ dozen children leave last year and many more great families leave in previous years due to systemic problems. Again, fact not fiction. Our personal experience was riddled with an administration that lacked compassion/concern for our children/family. The only focus is on the upper school. And the growth has been TOO FAST, leaving the K-5 program with incompetent leadership, all kinds of behavioral/bullying issues that go unaddressed, and a curriculum that is not being executed with the rigor that was promised. Many families, including ourselves gave so much to this school in personal time, financial support, etc. and we feel truly taken. Do not be wowed by the heavy marketing or eloquent speeches. There is an ugliness at this school that is like a virus and further evidenced by the recent, nasty attacks on families leaving less than 5 star reviews.

Our family has been involved with The Cambridge School for almost eight years. It has exceeded our expectations year after year as our student has flourished in mind and spirit in this loving educational community. The faculty is exemplary due to the Head of School's outstanding diligence in seeking out exceptionally qualified teachers who are committed to excellence in teaching classical education in a way that makes school fun and exciting from pre-kindergarten upward. It is no wonder the parents, relatives and friends who visit the school and see what is being taught and how is is presented very frequently respond, "I wish I could go back to school and learn like this!" as they observe students truly loving to learn. Having had a student at the school these many years, we have closely observed that the administration under the leadership of the Head of School has integrity, honesty and sacrificially gives the students' development priority in all respects. It is very much a learning community where students and their families thrive.

It's always a shame when people troll the internet to spew some hatred with silly gossip. Someone is married to a board member? Wow! Turn the other cheek? Those without sin...? Get a life and move on? LOL Hands down, if you let 3 bad eggs make your decision for you about this awesome school, then this school isn't for you. I usually don't leave reviews but I read some of the silly nonsense that a couple of trolls posted about Cambridge. I would like to "ECHO" the previous 5 star reviews and tell you that this school is the best, period. Great teachers, students, faculty, staff and so on... The school has grown so well over it's short 8 years and has not lost their way in any way or form. Come to the school and do a walk through and make your own decision based on what you see and not what you read from trolls. This school is focused on their students and not Friday night football or talking the talk of the Christian person but actually walking the talk. My children have been to other private school that are established here in San Diego before switching to Cambridge and there is no comparison. Cambridge is driven by a strong foundation and will succeed regardless of trolls.

Classical education can be wonderful. However, due to poor management, a revolving door of teachers and a curriculum that is not well developed or executed - the program at Cambridge is sub-par. For several years, our teachers were always new (or newer) to the school or were teacher's aides the previous year - not acceptable at this price tag. We found an "us" versus "them" mentality with the administration, not the partnership that was promised. There are serious behavioral issues with many children and the young, inexperienced aides are not equipped to handle problems. Academically, we have found huge holes in our children's education since leaving. Cambridge prides themselves on being ahead of other schools, but what that has translated to is core concepts in math, grammar/writing, reading, science, Latin, etc. that have actually not been taught well or reinforced. Unfortunately, we also saw favoritism of certain families by the administration, an attitude of boastfulness among children AND parents that Cambridge is superior and families that are highly competitive with one another. Cambridge fell far short of their marketing to create life-long learners and virtuous scholars.

Best school in the county without exception. We are beginning our sixth year at The Cambridge School with continued enthusiasm. The teachers, curriculum and culture has catalyzed our children's intellectual curiosity and diligence as well as fostered good character. I am convinced they can recall, analyze, and communicate in writing and verbally far better than if they matriculated at any other school in the area. The teachers are talented and devoted. Class levels are small. Bonds of friendship are very strong. School leadership is unquestionably committed. Growing a school in this day in southern California is extraordinarily difficult. To do it and re-cultivate the same pedagogy that shaped the minds and hearts of some of the greatest leaders in western civilization has been humbling to watch and exhilarating to support. I am so grateful for the wonderful way my children are being slowly transformed into virtuous scholars.

At The Cambridge School, our children have the advantage of a rigorous classical education taught through a biblical and Christ-centered worldview. The Cambridge School has been a blessing to our children in countless ways. They come home from school excited about what they are learning and frequently conversation revolves around the amazing artist they are learning about or the time period of history they are studying. My older child is so excited to share with his younger sibling the exciting things she has to look forward to in her grade. My children are definitely challenged here, yet there is a wonderful grace and desire to help them be their best. It is a special environment.

Our family is so thankful for The Cambridge School community. We are just starting our 5th year with the school and are enjoying every minute. The teachers each year dedicate themselves to educate not only the students but also partner well in education with the parents. It is a great fit for our family because we agree wholeheartedly with the mission and vision of the school. Each year the teachers have really connected with my children's hearts and cared for their academic as well as character development. In our family, character is equally if not more important than academics because we want to enjoy being around our children and for other people to enjoy them as well in community.

We have been part of this school for many years. It breaks our heart to see the continuous struggles the school faces. We finally had to leave this year due to high teacher turnover, poor school management, poor quality/rigor of the curriculum & tuition of $15k per student (grossly overpriced for what we are getting). Classical education can be phenomenal, but this school is very young (8 years) & has not yet been able to produce a stable faculty nor a rigorous classical program. Poor leadership & management of the school leads to questionable policies, unresolved issues & excessive gossip. The financial instability leads to heavy handed fundraising efforts & many additional costs to parents that far exceed the tuition. Parents must pay or provide for everything - incl. many field trips, all holiday/school events, educational events, feast days, etc. While there are a few outstanding teachers, many of the great ones are gone. For several years in a row now, 1/3 of the faculty have left. This year over 35 students also left. Bright children are not challenged & must supplement at home (very common at this school). In sum, the school markets itself well, but just does not deliver.

Sadly, we recently moved from San Diego and ended our time with The Cambridge School (TCS) for now. After studying Latin for 3 years at TCS, our 4th-grade twins walked into their first-ever Spanish class at their new school for gifted students and used Latin training to pick it right up. Their new Spanish teacher is thrilled! Also, because of TCS's excellent elementary Mandarin classes, they are already at or near the top of their class at the new school. In addition, they are among the top students in math, reading, and writing in their new school. But most of all, their new teachers are quite taken with the twins' personalities. They describe them as calm, confident, well-spoken students who bring a "light and joy" and a love of learning to their classes. We feel strongly that TCS played a big role in this. And we would add "God Loving" to that description as well! TCS is that rare gem of academic rigor, character focus, and Classical Christian training rolled together with parent involvement. We recommend it and its outstanding teachers and staff without reservation. Embrace this school if you get a chance. There are few like it anywhere and we miss it tremendously.

Our family is so fortunate to have found The Cambridge School. This school has been such a blessing to us. My son (Kindergarten) has flourished here at TCS. The curriculum (especially for K) is amazing and you can tell that the administration has put in a lot of time researching and developing what they believe will work best in educating young minds. He even teaches me Mandarin and Latin vocabulary! My son's teacher has always been very accessible (email, phone, and conferences). When speaking to her, I can tell she has put a lot of thought into my son's progress, his strengths and things he could work on. The teachers here are phenomenal. Although my son is only in Kindergarten, after school one day I happen to be speaking to one of the second grade teachers. I shared with her that I was impressed with the second grade sentence diagrams and that I wasn't sure if I could possible do it...well she enthusiastically told me she would teach me if I had time and she started clearing off a space at her desk! This enthusiasm for teaching is inspiring and you can feel it from all of the teachers. Everyday I drop my son off at school I am at peace knowing he is where he should be.

Some of the negative reviews from 2007 and 2008 have everything to do with our having been a brand-new school and nothing to do with the mission,vision and values espoused and instilled throughout the curriculum and culture. It is reasonable and safe to say that in its 7th year of existence, The Cambridge School is everything all these positive reviews have to say and more! Also, just FYI, with God's blessings, we will be receiving our WASC accreditation in July of the year of this review.

We came to Cambridge from another top Christian School in the area and we are just truly amazed by this school. The curriculum is like nothing we've ever seen - a rigorous Classical Christian Education - that our kids just love and thrive on. The faculty are phenomenal. All of the teachers we have encountered are so passionate about what they teach and so passionate about our children. The Administration fosters a culture of partnering with families and takes the time to really get to know and understand each family. The other families are so genuine and real...we feel like we are really part of a community here. There is strong emphasis on character and virtues incorporated at every level of this school from academics to athletics, even enrichments - which creates a peaceful, loving environment. We feel so enriched as an entire family to be part of such a stellar academic and spiritual school the has the education and values in exactly the right place!

Our two sons attend The Cambridge School. One is going into 2nd grade, the other into K. This school is amazing. Just yesterday both of our sons received letters from their teachers expressing their excitement for the upcoming year, how they have been praying for my kids and how they look forward to what they will learn this year. The small class sizes along with a teacher's aide in each classroom provides our kids an optimal learning environment. That along with the classical christian approach to education is putting our kids on the path to become life-long learners. They also provide other learning opportunities to round out our kids' skills including athletics, academic competitions and clubs/activities (such as fencing: what 5 and 7 year old boy would not enjoy learning how to use a sword!). Very thankful to have found this school and be a part of something great!

Fantastic school! I have a child in the first grade and K4. They love it here. Mrs. Lowing in K4 just loves her kids and really reached out to them. Mrs. Clevenger spends quality time with the kids in first grade. The class sizes are small and a room mom or aide is usually in the room. My son started to read this year in first grade and is constantly buying books when we go out and reading them. My daughters energy level is sky high with excitement to attend school everyday. Both my children hate holidays because they really enjoy going to school here. My son told me the other day, I can't wait until Friday!! Why? I love Latin!! Other parents are pretty easy to approach and are outgoing. I haven't noticed any stuffy crowds. Most parents are really involved with the school and tend to volunteer when needed. Sean Giles is a huge asset. Barbara in the front office is Ms. Courtesy of the year. Always willing to help out. We love this school and so do our children.

We moved 2 of our children to this school last year (2010) and had such a great experience that we decided to move our other child there too starting in 2011. We moved from an "excellent" public school to The Cambridge School. The difference is unbelievable! I expected to see a change for my children who needed smaller class sizes and someone to help them get excited about school. What I didn't expect was the change for my child who I thought could do fine anywhere. I didn't even realize that she had lost her love of learning. She is so energized about school now that her joy is evident all weekend long. I could go on and on about the curriculum, teachers, and the Christian values but fundamentally if you want your children to love to learn, this is the place for them!

The Cambridge School is amazing - it has actually exceeded our expectations! We never imagined educators who care so much about our child. It has developed a dynamic vision of education and has hired talented, passionate teachers to carry it out. Their system works. Our daughter learned more in the first 9 months of school at Cambridge than she did the entire previous 4.5 years spent at another private school. I believe this school offers some of the finest, if not the finest, primary school education in the San Diego area. This makes their tuition a surprisingly good value for our family. And given their commitment to my child's spiritual development as well, Cambridge is in a class of its own. Icing on the cake: Our daughter loves going to school!

We are very blessed and honored for our daughter to attend The Cambridge School (TCS); she is now in her third year. TCS is truly in a class by itself and offers no less than a transformational learning environment. The combination of a classical education (eg, math, science, arts, languages) coupled with a Christian worldview is powerful to affect both the hearts and minds of the students. The TCS environment is academically rich and nurturing, so students are not just informed with facts and knowledge but transformed in this setting. TCS sets a high standard for the faculty who have advanced degrees and a strong creative passion for teaching the classical-Christian curriculum. The teachers also love and pray for each student and work closely with parents on their child s progress. TCS lays a solid foundation and love for learning for life; students are challenged to excel but also have a lot of fun in the process. As a parent, it s also awesome to be a part of the greater Cambridge community of families and friends. Our daughters transferred to The Cambridge School this year (grades 2 and 5) and are very happy. They are up and ready even before I wake them up. The teachers are loving, patient, and pass on their love of learning. I helped in the classroom on a group project recently and was impressed by the students' kindness to each other. Plus they are learning immense amounts while simultaneously developing a servant's heart. Friday morning Memory Time is worth attending to see the learning in action.

We are completing our first year at Cambridge and are very happy of how the year went. We were not really looking for a school that had a religious base as much as we were for one that had a very sound academic program. The Classical way of teaching was new to us and we did a lot of research prior to attending Cambridge. We stay on top of our children's education and have been pleased with the Mandarin and Latin teaching-which has been fun for my kindergartner. We were also new to the Singapore math method, but aware that America's traditional way of teaching math is failing. The Singapore method does appear slow in kindergarten and I had concerns regarding whether or not they were teaching all the concepts necessary, but after doing research, I learned that this is a typical experience and that it all comes together in first and second grade. If you were to change schools early on that might be a problem. The reading and writing programs are very strong. We have also been pleased with History and Science which we were evaluating closely based on the fact that a lot of religious schools are weak in this area. We will continue to evaluate-but over all are very pleased.

We weren't looking for just an average Christian school. We looked for a school with strong academics to challenge our curious son and that also teaches that all of creation belongs to God and all knowledge is His. This school does that and with teachers who have cared not only for our child's mind but his soul. We're in our second year here. After being at two other Christian schools, we've seen nothing that comes close to comparing.

The Cambridge School has instilled a love of learning in my child. They employ innovative teachers who cultivate curiosity in the children with an organized logical approach to learning. The school is very pro-family as they do not fill the students' (and thus the parents') nights and weekends with meaningless projects and homework. Since time is not wasted during the school day, homework is meaningful and moderate. Prior to finding Cambridge my child fought me every morning because she did not want to go to school. At Cambridge, she is sad when there is a day off. High academics, innovative teaching, wonderful families -- I have found Cambridge to be all it proclaims to be!

This school has heavy change over. Their founder recently stepped down and they brought in a new Head Master who is only there for 1 year. The school employees some teachers that are very aggressive and unrealistic. They expect a 4 year old to read/write/sit still non stop. They are also located in an area that doesn't allow growth in class sizes, too small a chapel, no future sports, etc. Some parents never get involved, some never give and the overall attitude is that this school is better than everyone else. The founder gives speeches throughout each school year and it's the same old story.
