Both of my kids have been in this district since they were little. Now one is about to graduate and the other is about junior in high school. I don't have any other schools to compare it to, but for a public middle school I would say they are doing a great job. it is a tiny district, there is a very warm and welcoming sense of community and there are loads of fun activities throughout the year for the kids to enjoy (Halloween carnival, beach day, picnics/movie nights, dolphin dash , field day etc). My daughter needed a lot of support through her IEP to help her learn study skills and develop tools for learning. She has an IEP for executive functioning weaknesses. The tutorial teacher Ms. Wilson has gone above and beyond as has the principal. They treat my kids like their own, and this kind of relationship couldn't exist in a bigger district. There isn't a ton of homework, they do most of the work in school, which is nice. The facilities are older and it's not fancy, but they have what they need for all kinds of science, art, electives, etc. I think they could benefit from more variety in terms of electives, maybe implement more school plays and use the community theater, or have a school paper written by the kids, etc, but the kids at this school are happy. There isn't much bullying or fighting, most of the students are good kids who have involved parents and we live in a small town by the beach - we see the teachers out and about in the community. It is a very expensive town to live in but to me its worth it if you can make it happen for the peace of mind and safety as well as quality public schools.

My children had a horrible experience here. Besides lack of academic advancement, everything is disorganized, planned last minute, and we often had no idea what was going on including how to enroll in high school. It is a very old fashioned community, where every adult woman is a "Mrs" and they dont know how to handle divorced parents. It is a wealthy neighborhood so if you do find yourself poor here, they offer little to no assistance for you. Do not enroll here if you have an IEP. They feel they can break educational laws with impunity and your child will not get a decent education. Multiple members of the school board do not even send their children to the schools in this district.

Most teachers here are wonderful and energetic and devoted to their jobs. I disagree because there is one teacher who gets shuffled around between 3rd, 4th and 5th grade. We endured a year of 4th grade with her -- our child not only had a lost year, they became disillusioned with school and learning. Many, many parents agree she should be removed from the classroom environment, yet the school says its hands are tied.

My kids have generally had a positive experience here, but we are saddened and incredulous that the school continues to keep on a teacher who has had such a detrimental effect on many students. Parents regularly voice their concerns about this teacher and the lack of learning that goes on in her classroom, yet are told there's nothing the school can do.

I really like the way they handle bullying.The new Asst. Principal did an amazing job with the kiddos

My opinion it depends on the teacher Mrs.Smith was my son’s teacher last year he needed all kinds of help this year he’s doing wonderful no after school tutoring nothing he really is doing amazing thank you 4th grade Mrs.Smith we just love her

4th grade is terrible. There is a current 4th grade teacher that has been complained about for years and the school claims they cannot get rid of her. How about moving her to another position that is not as crucial and have the long term effects as a year of 4th grade. She has the smarter kids in the class teach the class. Everyone knows who I a talking about. Although 6th grade teachers are great, there are 35 kids currently in each of the 6th grade classes--teachers complain that difficult for them to keep up and terrible for kids. They need to hire more teachers that teach and focus on that as opposed to “Hello” week.

Overall experience has been good except 4th grade is a mess and they need to remove a very ineffective teacher that all parents hold their breath when notified of classes if they have a child in 4th grade, she is terrible and kids only learn from other kids. 6th grade classes are ridiculously overcrowded with 35 kids in each class

4th grade teachers are a talent wasteland. Last year my child's teacher Sippel was fired for hitting a kid in the head after already being on a disciplinary plan for not doing her job. She was the 4th grade team lead!!

4th is awful. 5th teachers are good. Middle school teachers are great. If you and your poor kid can endure the hell and academic void of 4th grade it does get better but shouldn't have to be this way. Have had two kids go through 4th with different teachers with one in middle school and one in 5th now.

My grandchildren transferred from a NYC private school to HVES in the middle of the year. The teachers made every effort to ease their transition and the kids settled in remarkably quickly. They are doing very well academically and seem to be having a great time. I couldn't ask for more.
