Lack of Teachers

A K - 8th school without enough teachers can be a challenging environment for students. Teacher shortages are disproportionately hurting low-income schools, where recruitment and burnout are especially difficult problems. The lack of teachers can lead to larger class sizes, which can make it difficult for students to receive the individual attention they need to succeed. And that's EXACTLY what this school is! In addition, a bad teacher can damage a student’s confidence and self-perception, leading to long-term negative effects on their academic performance and mental health. In such a school, students may face social challenges as well. Middle school can be a psychologically demanding time for students, as they navigate the onset of early adolescent change and the need to form a second social family outside of homes. It is important for students to have a supportive environment to help them through these challenges. My poor child (8th grade) goes to this school and I have never seen her struggle this much before. I am honestly scared for her future and it is taking all of me not to move her to a BETTER school. She has made such good friends and I do not want to see her sad if she does move. The sad thing is that she LITERALLY ONLY HAS ONE TEACHER IN MIDDLE SCHOOL, and should at least have 5-7 teachers. She is not getting the proper education that she needs in order to succeed in high-school.

Poor Environment

Don't even get me started with the environment of this place. When it was back to school night, right then and there I saw that this was the number on my list of worst schools that a child can go to. Lots of things were either broken, not well kept, or even just not there when it should be or there when it shouldn't be. It's really sad to have to think about my child going here every day. They expect her to carry more than 5 HEAVY BOOKS on her back every day because they don't have lockers when there are TONS of space for them. It's just ridiculous and will not be happening regardless of what they say. I will not risk my daughter having back problems when she is barely an adult. Not to mention trash being everywhere, the bathrooms don't have doors that work, teachers that ARE there being rude as hell, and much more that is every parents worse nightmare. So just trust me as a mother and DO NOT SEND YOUR KID(S) HERE!! PLEASE!!

This is a wonderful community school with a dual immersion program. Families are great, dedicated teachers and a beautiful campus.

My 2 boys have been at this school since TK and they love it. They have great friends, the teachers are capable and happy to engage with parents, the community around the school is supportive, and best yet, my kids walk to school every day! Highly recommend, especially for folks in the neighborhood, but of course welcome to all.

We love this school! We kind of found it by accident after having a horrible experience at private school.
My daughters are both in the Spanish Immersion program and they love it. The class sizes are small compared to LAUSD schools. And the teacher to student ratio is low.
You can tell that both the teachers and staff really care about the students. I was amazed that in a TK-8 school almost every adult knew my daughter’s name.
The parent involvement is great too! Really committed parents who are fun to volunteer with.

My 1st grader and 7th grader are constantly bullied. I’ve received 1 phone call, to my many calls to the school. My 7th grader is constantly being sexually harassed and it hasn’t stopped

Reinforcement is not followed through upon. Most teachers are not able to teach because they can’t discipline their class, so no homework given because there was no lesson.

While the security chat amongst each other the Teachers are acting as security and not able to teach. Some teachers conduct their classes with no effective preparedness for the next level. We came from Santa Monica school district and now my 1st grader and 7th grader are far behind the level of their former classmates.

The after school program that they have, IHAD and Cool Kids are very proactive in helping students complete their homework.

Our 1st grade French Immersion teacher works tirelessly help each student to their full potential every day. She helps by reinforcing and letting parents know what they are working on and how parents can also work on for the child.

My child has thrived in just one year at the school. Her math skills, reading, and writing has drastically improved.

I have one child that successfully graduated from Parent 4 years ago and has since been awarded an academic scholarship to two universities next year. I fully believe that the learning structure she received from Parent school has a lot to do with it. I have another child that will be graduating from Parent in two years and will follow in their siblings footsteps to academic greatness. I also have another child in elementary at Parent who also wants to follow both older siblings accomplishments.

I have 2 children in SpecialEd my daughter 2nd grade my son Kindergarten this school program is awesome!!! They have worked with my kids great, my children are progressing.

Frank D. Parent is going places! My son is in the new Dual-Language Academy in kindergarten with Maestra Carrillo. She is an incredibly skilled educator who is mission-driven.

Mr. Gregory and Mr. Dawson (the school's princial and AP) are dedicated and open to parent feedback. They have passion and purpose and are a cohesive team.

The parents at the school are friendly, helpful and warm. Our son made fast friends with his classmates and with children in the other two kindergarten classes. He LOVES going to school every day! And it's wonderful being able to walk to our school with many other neighborhood families. We love it at Parent!

I have 2 daughters attending Frank D. Parent..... I was kind of iffy when my daughters first started attending this school but that was just me... Right away The Office Staff talked to me about the school and answered all my questions and concerns. They are very friendly they have always greeted us with a great set of smiles. I love how they always are in a great mood. The principal Mr. Gregory has a great staff he himself is a Great Principal. I love how he takes care of any concerns I may have had. Thank you To everyone at this school .... I RECOMMEND THIS SCHOOL have a pre-k But Either way I'm enrolling my son this September for kinder

My child attends Frank D. Parent and I have a few concerns about the faculty at this school. I was so excited when school started and things were fine up until it was time to communicate with the office staff! School has been in session for almost 3 months now and I can truly say the service I received from the office staff has been nothing but RUDE, UNACCEPTABLE, and UNPROFESSIONAL! On three different occassions, I either left the office or hung up the phone displeased and very concerned that my child attends a school with an office staff that lacks an essential part of the functionality of a school; communication skills. One morning I walked into the office and NEVER received a greeting, may I help you, what can I do for you, what do you need. Two ladies looked up and put their heads back down and continued doing what they were doing. When I walked out, there was a staff member that walked out ahead of me and ask once we got outside did anyone help me. I said no not at all. She shook her head and said I can try to help you. Another time, I called in regards to my child and the lady I spoke with was so rude, I felt like reporting her to the school district.

I am a proud Panther Alumni and I went to Parent from '07 to '11. Yes I was bullied and yes Mr. Gregory took initiative to stop the bullying as well as a school-wide assembly on bullying. The office staff was kind of iffy and not very welcoming, if you'd ask me I'd say they belong at the DMV or Post Office not a family-friendly environment. Ms. Autrey was one that needed some happiness in her and to be more manerable to adults and the elderly. Most if not all the teachers were very educated and met the requirements to teach the lessons and mannerable. I was fortunate to have teachers as Mr. Williams, Mrs. Harvey, Coach A, Mr. Wilkins, Ms. Barrios, Mr. Pollard, Mr. Mackey, Mrs. Wallace, Mr. Guttierez, Mr. Taylor and Ms. Anderson. I have not stepped foot on Parent's campus in over two years; but believe me the staff knew me very well and loved me dearly. A reminder to parents and other alumni every school will have their flaws and all, but the difference the community makes is key. Participate in the PTA, join community groups to help better the school. God Bless, and Go Panthers, C/O '11!

I attended Frank D. Parent for middle school. It was a very nice environment. I learned more than I learned in a private school. The staff is warm and welcoming. And the principal Mr.Gregory is a very good principal. He strives for the students to their best and be rhe best. If you are reading this Frank D. Parent is an excellent school to send your child to.

Frank Parent is a great facility to learn in. The grounds are kept up and the environment is pleasant. The curiculum is up to date and teaching techniques are constantly being updated. Will the school meet everyones expectations, no, not possible to make everyone happy. But a majority of the parents do like the school and help to make it better. With the financial climate as it is now, its going to need help from all parents and the community to keep going.

My sons are attending the summer "Educamp" at this school. They are incredibly disorganized and we will be moving them. Unfortunately, this school is living down to it's overall reputation. The teachers seem fine but the administration clearly is clueless. The camp counselors are not managed, they have lost use of the classrooms (unbelievable) and there are many fights. We considered sending our sons here for regular school but there is no way after this time during the summer. What a shame.
