Im very disappointed. My kids are not excited to go to school at all. Little to no parent engagement. Things have gotten worse over the past few years. Principal is not collaborative and seems to like her yes people more. Instead of collaborating, the principal defends her perspective on things. Numerous parents have experienced language and interactions that feel threatening, I am one of them. Decisions at the school are unilateral. Its bureaucratic now, and I want child first. There are numerous good schools in the area, this is not one of them.

If you have a highly creative, highly sensitive, artistic personality type of child, the school is not recommended! They do not understand children that think outside-of-the-box, or that have highly sensitive personalities. My child has been extremely bored and understimulated. His first semester teacher was not a good fit for him. It took 5months to get him changed to a different teacher. And in those 5 months, his behaviors were spiraling downward. I had stated it was going to be a lot harder to get him back to where he was originally, yet they expect change to happen in just a few weeks.

He has also learned some behaviors and language in school that is never at home, and when hes copied or emulated it in school Hes gotten in trouble for it. When I mentioned he learned it there, the responsibility was deflected away from the school stating he should know better. But if hes not learning it at home and hasnt been corrected for it, how would he know the difference?. My experience has been extremely disappointing. Some of the staff make assumptions or prejudge without really knowing a child And will be dismissive when a parent is trying to explain their kids personality. Ive known parents whose child got in trouble for standing up to bully, and when the parents stood up for him, the parent was called disrespectful.

The school year has been very disappointing, frustrating and stressful for myself as a parent And I dont recommend it based on what I stated above.

My oldest child culminated from this school and was well prepared for middle school. We transferred from another LAUSD school when we moved and this school provided better education and support. My youngest gets free tutoring through the school in either reading or math every year. The teachers are always doing their best to get him help in his areas where he needs help. The school also provided my youngest with support in social skills with small group work with the school psychologist. The school also has some great free after school, music, and robotics. Both of my kids enjoyed and learned from those opportunities.

The worst school experience. They have a teacher who imposes her religion on the kids, and if they do not accept, she will make them feel that something is wrong with them. DO NOT SEND YOUR KID TO THIS SCHOOL! They will treat your child as a criminal because this teacher would lie about what he does in the classroom to protect herself, and if you complain to the district, everyone will say that it is a good school. They damaged my kid for life, and now I have to pay a therapist to help him. I got sick due to all the stress they made me feel. This school is hell.

We love our time here at Andasol. Principal Denen, teachers, and support staff truly care about their school and students. We have attended other schools and are so lucky to have finally found Andasol. My review is too really give thanks to all of the teachers during this pandemic. The fact that Andasol is a 1-1 technology school (thank you Principal Denen) has allowed my daughter to not miss a day of instruction since school was suspended. Right from day one of my have had a very detailed schedule provided by my childs teacher. Daily Zoom, ClassDojo, and Google classroom keeps us all connected. Our students are very lucky to have teachers who have been trained to use new programs and technology. I also was impressed to see that the Andasol PTA had donated Promethean boards to each classroom.

I am very happy we are part of a school that places such importance on teaching our children using new and innovative techniques.

We really love this school and I can see that everyone who goes here is part of a great community. I know the PTA is trying to establish a solid relationship between the school and parents and looking forward to seeing it grow! Thank you Andasol family!

Principal Denen and her team are amazing. We are so happy we are part of this school and family. The leadership they have shown during this new Distance Learning time has been amazing. I dont feel like my child is missing out on learning. They had a plan in place right from the start.

I think LAUSD doesn't have the best homework policy. But I do think the teachers at Andasol do their best to provide meaningful work and not just busy work for the sake of sending home work. It varies from teacher to teacher. I'd like to see LAUSD support more recess time and less homework.

Our son tested as gifted. We find the teachers have nurtured his curiosity and his skills very well. (He's done K-5 here.) Every year there are interesting projects and challenges. Teachers for the most part are amazing, in our experience.

This is a school that has done great things for the students with very few resources through creativity and determination. I feel the principal cares very deeply for all the students and genuinely wants each one to thrive and succeed. She works hard to provide a great experience for everyone: teachers, parents, and students.

Andasol has a highly regarded special education (Autism) program and an SAS/gifted program. I think the school and the teachers have done well serving the whole range of students and every student participates in the school. The special ed students are integrated with the main stream whenever possible. High achievers are clustered together to nurture their potential when appropriate. Students see and are able to celebrate their differences together. I think it's a great environment for students!

We love Andasol! It's a small community school. Highly diverse population. There's an orchestra that is free and NOT an after school program. There's a robotics team. It's a 1:1 technology school. The kids really support each other, so I think there's a great environment for kids to be kids, to learn and to have fun. We love it!

Principal Dennen has made the school far more inviting than it was with the last principal. She clearly values the teachers opinions and wants parents involved in the school. It has changed the atmosphere of the school. With Principal Dennen at the helm I feel good about sending my children to this school.
The teachers are great, Mrs. Parker, Mrs. Garrido, and Mrs. Moore to name a few. There are many more teachers who are wonderful.
All 3 of my children attend or have attended this school. Mrs. Parker was amazing with my child and made sure she enjoyed every day, while teaching her so much about interacting with others. I was concerned about my daughter having difficulty adjusting to school, but with Mrs. Parker I had nothing to worry about. If there was an issue she contacted me and discussed it with me in real time. No surprises at conference time. My daughter flourished under her care and guidance.
Mrs. Garrido has taught my older son and my middle daughter. She is so encouraging to the kids. She has the ability to make every child feel safe and confident. Her warmth and sincerity make the kids feel safe and her structured class is great for laying a foundation of respect for a lifetime. She values the arts as much as the academic and encourages creativity. She reaches out to parents in the class to increase the opportunities for all of her students. Many parents have special skills and Mrs. Garrido allows them to share those skills with the students.
Mrs. Moore is one of the kindest teachers I have come across (my son is in 9th grade) so I have experienced quite a few. She is so supportive of her students, she knows how to draw out the shy ones and keep everyone involved in the class. My son has great memories from her class, as do I. I am looking forward to having another great year with her. My daughter will be in her class this year.
This school is filled with great teachers, a wonderful Principal and many caring parents. There is an active PTA and always opportunities for parents to participate in whatever capacity they are able.
I would recommend this school.

My daughter started in transitional Kinder at this school. Her TK teacher was wonderful, followed by an amazing kinder teacher. Her first grade teacher not only pushed the entire class to excel in the arts but also academically. The test scores of this school's SAS program was very high this year. They scored 9's and in some subjects higher than the other good schools in the area. This is an up and coming school, small and quaint with great teachers and a new principal that has made many improvements. This fall Andasol Elementary is hosting a Chineese Exchange teacher who will be teaching the students chineese for one year. Andasol was one of 23 schools in the entire US chosen to participate in a teacher exchange program offered by the State Deoartment. In addition to having an orchestra, Andasol also has a Ukulele program. I have no doubt that the rating on this school will improve.

My son started at this school in Transitional Kindergarten. He has just completed first grade. So this was our third year at Andasol. He has grown so much over this past year. He was challenged in all areas: math, reading, science, dance, theater. It was an amazing year with all of the projects and performances. His SAS teacher would not allow him to quit, she pulled so much out of him this year that I have even greater expectations for second grade.

These are traits that as a family we teach our daughter at home already. In the classroom is where she was able to put into practice or reminded by the teacher and assistants. She had a hard time with fairness at the age of four everything and everyone was not fair. Throughout the year I have seen the change. She understand that she is not always right and that everyone regardless of their classroom behavior needs to be treated with kindness and respect.

My daughter is in the Sate Pre-School program this year. In just a few days she will be saying good bye to her dear friends and her favorite teacher. I was very sad to learn that there is no open enrollment. My daughter's home school has a 7 school rating, but I would chose Andasol immediately, if given the chance. They have a very active PTA, many school active for the entire family, the website is updated frequently and phone messages on a Friday evening with reminders are the norm. Parent involvement is requested and welcomed. My only regret was not being able to participate as a parent due to my work schedule. Thanks for the memories Andasol.

My son is now in 2nd grade but has attended this school since kindergarten and while I'm not very much impressed with the school itself I have to say that he has been blessed to have some AMAZING teachers. His kindergarten teacher ms Kirpatrick was awesome. Al though he came in the middle of the school year to her classroom she really did a great job at welcoming him and making him feel comfortable & working him right into the class. She always let me know if there was anything wrong or anything he needed to work on which I appreciated. His 1st grade teacher was Mr. Childs & at first I thought he would be too nice of a teacher to keep my energetic son and I'm sure the rest of the class under control but he turned out to be wonderful. My son loves him & he always let me know when there was a concern or issue or even if my son missed a single hw assignment. He was on it!!! Overall my son has already shown that he can be taught at a level above the normal curriculum through his high test scores so I do wish they had a class for advanced students at this school. If it weren't for teachers like the two I named above this school in my opinion would have nothing to offer my child.

My son is in k in miss Taschyan class and I could not have asked for a better teacher. She is truly gifted and one can tell by the care, passion, and professionalism she dedicates to each of her students. I can only hope that the school recognizes her for her quality teacher she is and gives her all the opportunities to grow in her profession so many other children can benefit from her talent. Thank you, miss Anna Taschyan , you have made a big difference in my son's life!

Make sure your child isn't lagging behind. Ask them if there is anything that they are having a hard time learning. Don't just leave it up to the teacher all year. Good school. Would recommend it for anybody but bullys.

Andasol has an excellent pre-K program. Teacher Tina is very nice to the kids and teaches them a lot...I even think she teaches more than Kindergarten. My daughter has so much fun in her class and is willing to go to school everyday. Great job teacher Tina. The only concern is the PTA and funding. parents are not so involved or do not contribute much...so the classroom projects are affected. Teachers are great too. They even use their own resources/money for the classroom projects. I would say it is a wonderful school.

I am very pleased with this school. My children are attending Andasol because I work nearby and Andasol offers after school programs which allow me to pick up my children after work. My youngest daughter is in Creative Kids Club and my oldest daughter goes to homework club and after school playground. My children are happy here.

This review is based on my observations of the school as a member of the community. I live in the neighborhood and often walk with my kids past Andasol. I have witnessed adults (not clear whether they were teachers or aides) yelling at very young kids. This adult was unable to control the kids and was raising her voice and speaking disrespectfully to the kids to the point that it was upsetting for my son.

2 out of 3 K-teachers use screaming/yelling voice 75% of the time as means to communicate. Mrs. Burke is a wonderful teacher at heart however, she doesn't seem to respect students' confidentiality. Discussions about their challenges/confidential matters are carried out undesirably openly & loudly which makes even un-involved parents uncomfortable and kids are let down or humiliated even when their issues are age appropriate. She doesn't allow kids to run/chase/scream out of excitement during recess on the play yard which I believe is the most effective way for them to exert their energy so they can concentrate better for classroom activities. Mrs. Kim yells constantly in her classroom. As adults, we must model for kids the manners that we want them to display. 6-hours long K-program requires kids to sit too long, 30-45 minutes. Most kids loose attention/interests after 10 min which is perfectly age appropriate. Both of these teachers don't seem to open to alternatives letting kids dance/jump/run/stretch a lap around the yard; or just changing up the lessons orders. Instead, yelling/screaming/scolding/threatening/punishing are used to make kids sit through carpet sessions.

My son is attending the PSI program with Mr.Long. My son been in school for almost 6 month and i can see alot of progress.I was very impressed and the teacher is very qualied and makes alot of activities in the classroom. Amazing school... exceptional teaching strategies that work wonders with kids. The teachers have the knowledge, support and abilities to be able to keep all their students at a level of learning that is just superb. Students with difficulties in learning are made sure they get what they need, the extra time and effort is there! No one wants to leave this caring and warm school, where PTO is very strong, welcoming and friendly. Always thinking what is the best for the kids and staff in the school. Love the "bonding and friendships" in the entire school. Highly recommend to everyone!

We have our son in psi with Mr Long, he is a excellent teacher and a good person, they fill all the time in class with a lot of activities and they have with his assistan Lou a very good structure for the whole time of the kids expend in the schooll. Im very happy with the progress of my little boy and with all the staff of the school. Thanks everybody for a great job.

I was involved in PTA for 4 years. They Always reported what was made from fundraising at their monthly (or sometimes bimonthly) meetings. Of course only a handful of parents ever attended the PTA meetings, so it isn't surprising that in the previous review, the parent stated that they never reported their finances, it is part of the bi-laws of PTA. Yet, I agree wholeheartedly about the principal's review. She makes decisions that are not in the best interest of student learning. And even if parents raise funds for the school, she does not allow the parents to decide where the funds will be used. With regards to teaching, while there are some bad lemons (see film Waiting for Superman), there are some true gems at Andasol. If you are an involved parent, you WILL know who the good and bad teachers are. Andasol has a very diverse student body, and yet students' scores continue to slowly climb. This, in part is due to the great teaching. This school is a good school, in spite of the principal.

My child has been to this school since 2007. At first I believed in everything this school stood for but now after nearly 4 years I wish I could have put her in another school. The principal pockets all the $ from funding and pta and never gives the info on what is made and spent. plenty of parent would love to speak up about this and the rude teachers but none will out of fear of what the principal will do to your child. Beware this is not the school that you think it is, home school would be a better option. It is sad

I transfer my kids from their home school about 2 years ago. It was the best decision ever!!! Both of my kids love it!! My son is in the Special Ed program and they have been a great help to me and my son!!!! He has improve tremendosly and he feels more confident of him self now. My other is in the Gifted program, she is very happy!! Andasol teachers and staff have been wonder with us!!!

Andasol Elementary is the school I went to before I moved. I really loved the activities we used to do; I can never forget the Mosquito Bus. Second grade was, is, and always will be my favorite year in all the schools. I now carry the school motto in my heart, 3 years after I left: Respect, responsibility, and citizenship too. They bring out the best in me and you. Trustworthiness and being fair, Help to show others that we really care. We all know what's right, we know what's good, We should really do what we know we should. P.S. Shoutout to my teachers- thank you!
