My darling daughter went to this school for her 8th grade and she told me it was the most horrendous place she'd ever been. She told me that the teachers there called her stupid. This is unacceptable behavior from Robert Frost. Do better.

This school has a great reputation and a great campus to work with, but where they fall down is in their reluctance, or refusal, to deal with the issue of mobile phone usage. Even though the rules about phones are clear and unambiguous the school has, for whatever reason, declined to enforce these rules, to the detriment of the students and their parents.

If you send your kid to this school be careful if his getting bullied principal and staff won't do anything about it, they tell you not to get the cops involved that they will resolve the issue but then let weeks pass so you could kinda leave it alone ,, no punishment against bullying is ever given. They treat bullying like is a normal thing in between students

Rfms class of 2023 here! I definitely feel like this school helped prepare me for high school since I felt like I properly learned all the material that I was supposed to learn very well. The teachers here are good (at least in my experience, although some were just okay) Some standouts were Ms.Melville, Ms.Braucher, Ms.Dawson, Mr.Rincones and Ms.Kaang. As I felt like I learned a lot from their classes. The one thing I would caution against from this school though is that the students at least when I went there did say the N word a lot. While the staff did try to stop it, the word was said so much during my 8th-grade year that it started to weigh on me alot as a black student, to the point where I was excited and relieved during winter break since I didn't have to hear the n-word be thrown around every day. And didn't go to my culmination as I had just been so exhausted from hearing the word almost if not every single day. There was also an instance where I noticed a black kid was often called a try-hard (in a negative way) for running the most laps during run day (a thing every Thursday where we have to run 5 laps to pass) however when other people would run the same amount of laps that wasn't Black, none would say anything negative. So, while I am somewhat grateful for everything I learned from Frost I would strongly caution black families and other families who would be concerned with this to consider this, since I know that it affected me personally alot during my 8th-grade year to the point where I was exhausted by the end of the year, and wanted nothing to do with the school.

This school is nice. It's very peaceful in the area.

The learning -

Our class is very behind in math. The learning is easy. Sometimes my teacher makes it fun. But it is a bit strict sometimes.

The Teaching-

It's not the best. My teacher gives me tons of homework. I stay up until 1 am finishing it. My teacher makes us feel dumb sometimes. My teachers are most of the time respectful, sometimes supportive, and not very motivated.

Social-emotional support -
Sometimes the teacher calls students fat and stuff. Some of them are rude. But they comfort me when I am sad. I guess.

Safety -
Oof. The kids always call each other racial slurs and bad words. I got hurt from a kid once.

this school is very great at being nice to new students and to people with special needs but do not seem to respect students in general. Many teachers and staff have been reported and nothing has been done because they dont care about how kids will feel. As an adult, i feel respect should go both ways. Many staff here have been very rude each time I have entered the school.

My daughter attends the magnet music program here. It's nestled in the suburb hills of Granada Hills which is really nice with all the trees and quiet community around it. The math program is extremely good and the orchestra is top notch. They consistently win awards and go on field trips to watch music performances a few times a year. She actually enjoys the English teachers the most though! She likes the kids who go there, and says there aren't cliques the way you might imagine. I was amazed at how many kids received honor awards at the recent assembly. She did have one small moment of bullying but the staff nipped it in the bud immediately. They are also quick to discuss any emotional needs your child may have with the counselors. The principle seems really on it as well. He runs a tight ship and you can tell he cares. I do wish they had some art programs besides music and she's not crazy about the after school program, but all in all, I'm very happy she's going there and would recommend it.

I am a current student (8th grade) here at this school and the harassment here IS INSANE the bulling is just wow I never thought a school like this would be so bad none of the teachers want to be here anymore. The teachers all want to go home maybe one or two want to teach but must of them don't.

I am a current 8th-grade student as of September 18th, 2023, and this school is okay. Most of the teachers are nice and have most of the students excited to learn, well some teachers are really strict and mean and just have lessons without having fun. The social-emotional support program is amazing, and they have great staff members to help people whose mental health is bad. The safety is pretty good, and there are rarely any fights or people getting suspended. The school is pretty diverse and has a lot of different races, and everyone treats them nicely *most of the time*.

Overall, this school is okay and has great staff members and some really nice teachers.

I have two very different children attending Frost. One is a high-performing honors/GATE student involved in multiple co-curriculars. The other has a specialized education plan/accommodations and is in the standard common core classes. First, I love the principal here! He is so fun, patient, and positive with the students. He knows their names and makes an effort to say hello. He shows up to the performances, awards, and ceremonies and doesn't lose his energy even after standing there shaking hands and taking photos for HOURS. There was a lockdown this year which was very unusual for the school, and parents were obviously distressed. He held a Zoom meeting and answered all questions- even the aggressive ones- with patience and honesty. He talked about what went right/needs improvement. I came away with the feeling that my kids are in the good hands of an effective and knowledgeable leader.

The music program is incredible. Ms. Curtis and Mr. Rodriguez are so dedicated- I don't know when they sleep. They are both a wonderful combination of kind but firm. They get the kids motivated, in order, and learning. It's amazing to watch. Both of my students take music classes. They have not only become better within their personal abilities, they've learned to work as a team, cooperation skills, and they've learned a lot about dedication and hard work. It has helped them immensely as students and people, and they've made lots of friends.

I thought my child in honors classes would have most of the "great" teachers but this has absolutely not been the case. With the exception of one who was just ok, they've all been exemplary. I read another review about Ms. Melville (of course we all have preferences), but this was not our experience with her. Ms. Melville is hilarious! She manages the classroom with humor and levity, which may be different for some parents and students. My child had her for honors health and science and found that they needed to be more self-driven than usual. Ms. Melville expects this of the kids, and again, this can be an adjustment. I'm a worrier re: my student with special needs, but the teachers, counselor, and social worker have all stayed in touch with me as often as I've needed (... a lot). There are many processes and procedures for accommodations planning, and I don't understand most of them, but they've been good about responding and explaining. I do plan to ask for an update to the plan and will see how that goes.

If you can, don't come here. I'm a current student, and out of all the schools I have been in, this is possibly the worst one. Teachers do NOT care. They will give you maybe a page of notes and an assignment to do by yourself by reading a book, and then a test. Thats not teaching, that's providing us information to learn BY OURSELVES. You're a teacher, you are supposed to directly teach us the information.

Also, the school always says that they are here for you, but I don't feel like it. I personally have a lot of problems in life but can never find someone to talk to them about. I don't feel safe and comfortable talking to a counselor or teacher and I never will. Teachers are careless and SOME students are too. You will find kind students and very unkind students, its almost 50/50. Also, the amount of WORK? Overwhelming. They teach so little and give us SO much work, it piles up on you. And then they ask you if we are "okay". NO we are not okay. We are so stressed out about all work we have been given with so little teaching.

Anyway, in conclusion, I don't really like it here but have no choice until I graduate.

These labelling prevents students to succeed. I would think twice before you put your child into this kind of structure.

If you have any family values or traditional outlooks you want your kids to inherit, say goodbye to them. Your kids will be pressured into all the "woke stuff" by teachers. Parents' voices will be obsolete. Students get neglected in educational topics but will know every new gender. Ask your kids what they learn every day and stay on top of the agenda.

My experience at this school was not great. 6th grade was the only good time I have had at this school, after that, it all went downhill. 7th grade is a pain. ( Im currently in 7th) There were really only a couple of bright spots which included music. Music is the best thing about the school and possibly the only good thing about it. The music teacher is super fun and has lots of opportunities for the students to do music which include extracurriculars such as Jazz and Mariachi. Another one of the few things that are good about the schools is some of the teachers. My math teacher is a great teacher and I understand what she teaches most of the time even though it's rare for me to understand math. Ms. Mendez and Ms. Davis are possibly the best math teachers in the 7th grade even though they have their bad sides. Another great thing about this school is the campus. It has great nature and the trees are always colorful. The horrible sides of this school are the people, most of the teachers, the staff, the principal, the student, the bullying, and a lot more. I have been bullied more than 3 times this year, I have switched classes, lockers, electives, literally everything possible, and it's still going on. I don't recomend it.

The Principal Choe of this school does not know what leadership means. He will not pay any attention to your children nor take any interest in any problems at all. He is the only principal in the valley who refuses to participate in the students lives. He seems to be above it all and does not run an effective program. Worst principal ever encountered....do not send your children here.

My daughter was bullied by a group of older kids when she was in the 6th grade. It was really bad and her A grades were dropped and she started gaining weight. She said she told the school and they did nothing about it but were more concerned with keeping kids in line, test scores, and dress code standards. Nothing was done and we moved her.

My daughter was selected to come to to this school as it was out of our area and she had very good grades.
I would say her experience overall was damaging and to this day she still deals with the trauma of being bullied. Thank goodness she finally told her dad and I the severity of the issue and we got her out. I would not recommend this school. There were a couple of bright spots that got her through including a calligraphy teacher and a couple of good friends but overall if you have a choice don't send your child there.

The school is very nice. The programs are AMAZING (especially music) and I feel that education is valued here. BUT, the staff are very rude and selfish, and bullying is just a stain on the staffs back that has been washed off! The staff is one thing that makes me rate this school a 4/5 or 3/5. Plus, i was a little upset when i found out Frost didn't except jeans, but that's not too much of a problem (I mean, at least we can wear black jeans lol). I also don't really like the fact that for the Highly Advanced Studies, they talk to you as if to make you want to actually LEAVE the program. They are a little discouraging and they keep telling us "it's going to be difficult." I was expecting to hear, "You are all smart and you will all succeed" instead of "Many kids have dropped out of these classes because of the pacing and the Algebra 1 concepts." I DO NOT want to be one of those kids.

We moved into the neighborhood just to get into this school. It has good ratings and a well known music program. First I am disappointed my child wasn't given music as his elective. But more importantly, I have been very disappointed in the teaching and have had to literally home school our child in the afternoons because he is not being taught in class. I have met with the teachers and confirmed certain things are not being taught in class. I was told the kids should already now this stuff. Maybe some do, but some don't.
I have also been shocked that in 6th grade my child is given 2-3 hours of homework per night, a minimum of to tests per week which has averaged more like 3-4 tests per week. Aren't the kids supposed to be learning in class? I am homeschooling in the afternoons because there is no other way to pass these classes. I'm not great with math (but have a Masters Degree and graduated summa cum laude!) so I enrolled our child into Mathnasium to the tune of $300 a month...and his math teacher never even heard of it!
Exactly what are my tax dollars paying for?

It's with mixed feeling that I write this, but it's only in hopes for improvement.

I am a parent that likes to get involved and if something needs attention, I let it be known. I also praise appreciation when due.

My child had been struggling in certain classes and I reached out for help. Some teacher were amazing and responded and assisted in a timely manner. Most, offered suggestion to get outside help, because they just don't have the time. I reached out to the counselor, who has assured me from previous requests, that she respond within 48 hours; It's been a week and I'm still waiting. I reached out to Mr. Ayala, the principle, on a positive note; and I received and immediate reply. When I elaborated my concerns, there was no response or any type of acknowledgement. Every day they quote their motto, but the school is only as strong as their weakest link. School starts off great as they promote the best, but once inside, it's a whole different story. Everyone should be treated equally with dignity and respect, something this school may lack. They cater to the ones that can get them something in exchange. If someone cries for help they're literally left out to defend for themselves.

School ok put principle and the Mrs Ferman are very rude and very unprofessional I have never been so belittle in my life intill I came across these two!! I was discriminated I feel becuase I work in a cafeteria witch I had my shirt that's states that and talked down to because my son made a bad choice. I called them out on how unprofessional they where not to mention as I left the room princeple rolled his eyes and sayed great I have to deal with another parent and they both laughed he later try to sugar coated and say what he ment was he had to deal with another parent because his cousler Mrs Ferman can't do her job if that was the case I don't think they would of both laughed at that so I told them I will be letting the district know Principle response was its ok I will just let them know what your son did!!! What my son did and how they treated me are two totally different things if I could I would give this school a minus 4 it's so over rated your better off sending your kid to Noble where they have nice respectful and educated staff

This is the best middle school in the entire San Fernando valley, possibly throughout the state. I graduated from here years ago. Met a lot of great teachers and made lots of good friends. If only this school had gone all the way up to 12th grade, would've been awesome for me and all my friends to have stayed together for a few more years in this school. Will never forget the memories I had in this school :)

Both of my children graduated from Frost Middle School recently. The campus is beautiful and most of the teachers are wonderful. The only concern that we had was with the principal. He appeared to be very professional and concerned about what is best for his students, yet he was not. He often did not behave appropriately around students at the school and therefore lost respect from many parents and students.

My son has attended Robert Frost Middle School for the last three years. Tomorrow is his commencement and I can only hope that he finds the support, challenge, culture and positive environment that RFMS fosters. The majority of the teachers are caring and push their students to strive for their best. My son is a high achiever and when he did struggle in a course, we found support in the administration. The PTSA is unlike any other; they're highly involved and contribute to the success of the school. The principal, Mr. Ayala has a solid presence and is always easily accessible to parents. It is sad that he is being transferred. Finally, the music program is phenomenal. When my son started 6th grade, he didn't know much about music, much less how to play an instrument. Thanks to Mr. Rodriguez (the music director), who pours his heart and soul into his work, my son is proficient at the instrument he now plays and has a new found passion for everything music Mr. Rodriguez is a great teacher and mentor. The music program is among the best for a MS. I highly recommend this school if your looking for one with great academic status as well as a great culture.

I am a student at Robert Frost Middle School, and I have attended RFMS for three years. RFMS has changed my life in multiple ways. Their music program is amazing! Mr.Rodriguez has taught me (and all the other students in the music department as well), from music to the environment of a friendly and offered us another family. Not only Mr. Rodriguez, but a lot of other teachers, as well. They have taught us so much, I know I have. Their strictness for us students to follow the conduct code and school rules, has taught us responsibility and to follow rules and the people who enforce and make them. Lastly, Robert Frost Middle School is the best school that I could have attended in my middle school years. Thus, I recommend and love this school with great passion.

My child is in the SAS program at this school and it is excellent. Also, the band/orchestra teacher, Mr. Rodriguez is amazingly great!!!! I am happy that my child can get a great education as well as excellent music instruction for an overall well-rounded experience. The PTSA is also very active and supportive.

I have two kids at this school. The Pincipal is a great leader. He truly cares for the staff, teachers, parents and the students. He makes everyone feel welcomed as if it was his home. We are very proud to be a part of this amazing school. This is a five star school!!!!

I have two children who attended Frost. one is a well behaved with ADD and in the Magnet Program the other is in the SAS program. Frost is a great school for anyone who is in the SAS program but fails to offer any additional help for someone who is struggling. Sadly I kept my child there for two year with staff not really caring that my child was having a hard time without any extra help. I decided to transfer my child to another school that offers more help. SAS is a great program with great teachers!

I have two kids, one is a highly gifted student who attends another LAUSD middle school, and one in the regular program at Frost. My son went to the middle school with my other child but I took him out and placed him here last year. He has more needs than my other one and the other school was horrible at communicating with me. I can tell you that I see a HUGE difference between the two schools. The other middle school has a reputation of being a "good middle school" with a great school rating of "9" but they pale in comparison to Frost which is only a "7" here. If you have a high achiever who does well in school, the world is your oyster at any middle school in LAUSD. However, if you have another child who is good in math and struggles a little in english, they could get eaten up alive if your school is unsupportive. So far, Frost has been a relief, a help, a huge support and I can sleep better at night because the counselor and teachers are really there to help. My son is a resident student and I can only say positive things about how we've been treated. I kick myself everyday for not having my son go to Frost in the first place. But that's all water under the bridge.

I attended Frost a number of years ago and I found the school to be light on both prevention and removal of bullying from the school environment. I experienced bullying quite frequently to the point where I found myself terrified to go to school everyday. The principal genuinely wanted to help me, but unfortunately was unable due to restrictions on what he was permitted to do. I would caution any parent to send their kids to this school, and if they do still decide to do so just know that if your child is bullied (which unfortunately is quite rampant), the staff of the school has their hands tied.

The school indeed looks nice, and is in a good area. But that is where it stops. The administration and teachers are in a nasty cat fight that leaves the students in the middle. The administration is mostly worried about headcount and the teachers are mostly worried about doing the opposite of what the administration wants. When students go to a teacher for help, they are told nope, I only get paid to teach. Nothing after hours. The kids are bused in from everywhere, for that headcount and the classes have 40+ plus kids in them . Not the 26 posted here. It's a living breathing LAUSD nightmare.. All things bad happen here that could in public school..

Frost has some excellent programs and teachers, as well as a beautiful campus. I would say that the music program is one of the beet anywhere by far. On the downside, I feel that it is often more about the administration and not about the students or teachers. if your child is in special education, you might want to research other schools first.

Beautiful and clean campus. Most of the teachers respond to the emails promptly. The principal is working hard to improve the school, Frost MIddle School is going up with the 2012 CST scores, at 860. PTSA is very active. Great programs.Wonderful Music program. My kids have never been bullied again since the new principal came. My kids are very happy, they love this school very much.

My son attended all 3 years, & all went well until his last year 2nd semester when his English teacher failed him in error. After a few phone calls, emails, then a meeting with the principal it was discovered she give him an incorrect grade which would have caused him his graduation. If it weren't for my persistence his grade would have remained incorrect. My son graduated with high grades. All his other teachers were great.

I am COMPLETELY SATISFIED with the education and experience my son is receiving at Frost Middle School. The teachers have CHALLENGED him greatly and he is ACHIEVING exponentially. In these times, the principal has had to make tough decisions due to budget and other constraints. He has acted LOGICALLY, decisively, and with great concern for PARENT INPUT. The principal/vice principals are VERY INVOLVED and act promptly on any issue. Another main reason we came to Frost, and ICING on the CAKE, is the PHENOMENAL MUSIC program headed by Mr. Rodriguez and the rest of the music dept staff. The students are achieving junior college level musicianship in middle school!! Also, LIBRARIANS are amazingly helpful in many ways-one specific case where they chose reading-level appropiate books for my child, who initially picked a college level book to read and write a book report on! Another bonus is the charming/happy/HELPFUL IT GUY, who finds find fun websites to help enjoy studying, as well as diagnose your computer problems on the spot. Lastly, the dress code SIMPLIFIES LIFE and makes it easy to get out the door faster in the morning, and completely eliminates power struggles over dress.

Frost has changed so much in the past three years.. I won't say for the better. They have replaced so many teachers, all the good qualities of Frost are gone. To top it off, we don't even have a nurse here anymore! The dress code has become SO much more strict., the staff is rude, they have cut so many programs..now the school is asking for each family to pay $400 dollars to help support the school..It's funny how they have mac computers in the main office.
